Wireless sensor network (WSNs) is a demanding multidisciplinary field that has been target of research in the last decade. The increasing demand for security and automated monitoring of things and places makes WSNs a promising technology although there are still many open research contributions needed to make this the standard of environmental sensing. The goal of this article is to identify the research challenges on WSNs by dividing them into functional groups, building on previous work. We followed a structured approach based on a simplified yet complete vision of a design space for WSNs. Moreover, this work aims to identify research gaps and investigation fields yet unexplored or hardly explored by researchers in order to plot paths for future research. Several challenges and research areas were identified, like Models for Sensor Networks, Benchmarking Methodologies, Distributed Processing, Interface WSNs and Network Reprogramming. Some of these challenges will become even clearer as increasingly WSNs become Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks (WSANs).

AUV is a powerful tool for exploration and development of marine resources. Underwater terrain matching navigation is an emerging passive autonomous navigation method, which improves the long-term and high-precision navigation capability of AUV. The underwater terrain matching algorithm based on particle filter(PF) use a large number of particle sampling to approximate the system state, which can avoid the Taylor expansion truncation error caused by the terrain linearization method, and has good matching precision and terrain adaptability. However, due to the strong nonlinearity and the uneven distribution of the underwater terrain features, it is difficult to achieve the full-range terrain matching optimize with a single configuration parameter of PF underwater terrain matching algorithm. For this reason, this paper has comprehensively studied the PF terrain matching algorithm(referred to as PF matching algorithm). The principle, accuracy and implementation steps of PF algorithm are analyzed. With the UKF algorithm as a reference, the advantages and disadvantages of PF-based algorithm are studied through computer simulation of terrain matching navigation. The matching precision and terrain adaptability of PF-based algorithm has been tested. From the simulation results, it is concluded that the particle diversity decline is one of the main factors affecting the matching performance, which provides a basis for algorithm performance improvement and engineering adaptability improvement.

In Internet, IP multicast has been used successfully to provide an efficient, best-effort delivery service for group communication applications. However, applications such as multiparty private conference, distribution of stock market information, pay per view and other subscriber services require secure multicast to protect integrity and confidentiality of the group traffic, and validate group member's authenticity. Providing secure multicast for group communication is problematic without a robust group key management. In this paper, we propose an anonymous group key management with ID-based Signature and secret sharing technologies to distribute a new group key securely to each participant of a group with only one rekey message whenever the group membership changes. The key management guarantees that a legal user, without revealing his/her real identity, can join a group after finishing the mutual authentication with the group initiator, and enforces the forward secrecy and backward secrecy.

The context of smart cities has been increasingly recurrent in world literature. The present study aims to analyze the contributions of leadership, governance, and people to the development of smart cities. To achieve this objective, the methodology Methodi Ordinatio was used, and data was collected from Scopus, Science Direct, and Web of Science using the following keywords combinations: smart cities, smart governance, smart leadership, and smart people. The results of the analysis reveal the importance of people acting with intelligent practices, as well as the need to encourage leadership and governance strategies. If there is a link between these three pillars, with the intention of sustainable development aimed at the common good, the chances of institutionalizing smart cities are greater. The study's conclusions point to the need for interconnection between individuals, leaders, and governments for a city to develop intelligently, therefore, having identified the absence of a concept that encompasses the three dimensions, this article contributes to an expanded conceptualization of smart cities.

Developing a standarized metric for difficulty that can be applied to a large number of puzzles is not trivial. This does not come as a surprise because of the subjective factors involved in defining difficulty. However, studies that address the design and application of metrics that can be applied to multiple games are still important, because they can still be used to increase the quality of content generated by automated agents. We take a look at applying information entropy concepts in the game Asteroid Escape and compare the results with other metrics to assess difficulty used in games of similar characteristics. This approach is largely based on future work proposal from a previous study done on The Witness puzzles that yielded positive results on using an automatic method to assess the difficulty of user rated puzzles. This study also includes a modification of BFS and A* capable of finding every shortest solution. From the implementation, it is possible to look at contradicting results with the literature, where basic metrics had a better result correlating with an official definition of difficulty from the game designers. The impact expected from this study is to propose an update to the the corpus of puzzle games where the uncertainty metric for difficulty has been applied. As having an accurate assessment of difficulty can open the doors to other studies, such as improving the quality of the output from procedural content generation methods in games or propose an automated method of difficulty adjustment based on this metric.
