Agricultural residues biomass as a solid fuel for co-combustion in Indonesia - A review

The use of biomass through co-combustion technology in industry and coal-fired power plants (CFPP) is being tested intensively. Biomass can replace 5-10% of coal capacity in CFPP and results in massive demand for biomass supply availability. Biomass from agricultural residues has excellent energy potential, with a theoretically convertible biomass energy value of 682,771 GW. However, the difference between agricultural residue biomass characteristics and coal causes a disadvantage in power generation, such as power de-rating. The process of converting agricultural residue biomass into solid fuel with coal equivalent characteristics needs to be carried out so that substitution of coal to biomass or with co-combustion technology can be implemented. This paper discusses the potential of agricultural residue biomass and methods of converting agricultural residues biomass into solid fuels for co-combustion technology. From the results of this study, it was discussed that the conversion technology commonly used in agricultural residue biomass is torrefaction (either wet or dry torrefaction). To optimize the conversion process of agricultural residues biomass into coal equivalent solid fuel, it is suggested a combination of conversion technology (multi-process) to be applied and used for processing several types of biomass.

Biowaste remediation and valorization for environmental sustainability focuses on prevention rather than cleanup of waste generation by applying the fundamental recovery concept through biowaste-to-bioenergy conversion systems - an appropriate approach in a circular bioeconomy. Biomass waste (biowaste) is discarded organic materials made of biomass (e.g., agriculture waste and algal residue). Biowaste is widely studied as one of the potential feedstocks in the biowaste valorization process due to its being abundantly available. In terms of practical implementations, feedstock variability from biowaste, conversion costs and supply chain stability prevent the widespread usage of bioenergy products. Biowaste remediation and valorization have used artificial intelligence (AI), a newly developed idea, to overcome these difficulties. This report analyzed 118 works that applied various AI algorithms to biowaste remediation and valorization-related research published between 2007 and 2022. Four common AI types are utilized in biowaste remediation and valorization: neural networks, Bayesian networks, decision tree, and multivariate regression. The neural network is the most frequent AI for prediction models, the Bayesian network is utilized for probabilistic graphical models, and the decision tree is trusted for providing tools to assist decision-making. Meanwhile, multivariate regression is employed to identify the relationship between experimental variables. AI is a remarkably effective tool in predicting data, which is reportedly better than the conventional approach owing to its characteristics of time-saving and high accuracy. The challenge and future work in biowaste remediation and valorization are briefly discussed to maximize the model's performance. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

The purpose of this research was to investigate the tensile strength and impact strength of eleusine indica grass fiber-reinforced polypropylene recycle composite. In this study, the fiber was treated with alkali at 5% NaOH for 2 hours. The eleusine indica grass fiber cut with a length of 3 cm and the matrix used recycle polypropylene. In this research, the volume fraction of eleusine indica grass fiber varied by 20%, 25%, and 30% respectively. The composite molded with a hot press at temperature 200°C with a holding time for 2 hours. Tensile test used ASTM D3039 and impact test used ASTM D256. The highest tensile and impact strength results on fiber volume fraction 30%. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

We propose a new statistical modeling method to analyze functional relationship between predictor variables and correlated response variables, and apply it for modeling the number of HIV and AIDS cases influenced by early-age marriages and contraceptive users. The proposed method is LS-Spline BNNBR that is a Biresponse Nonparametric Negative Binomial Regression (BNNBR) based on least squares spline (LS-Spline). To validate the proposed method, we compare it with classical method, namely Ordinary Least Square Biresponse Parametric Negative Binomial Regression (OLS-BPNBR). The results show that the LS-Spline BNNBR method provided deviance value of 7.542334 which is smaller than that of OLS-BPNBR method, namely 7.993935. Thus, the proposed method has better prediction fit than the classical method. • This study discusses new statistical modeling method for the number of HIV and AIDS cases influenced by early-age marriages and contraceptive users where the response variables are correlated with each other. • The model estimation results show that the number of HIV and AIDS cases in Indonesia will decrease if the early-age marriages percentage increases and the contraceptive users percentage decreases. • The results are useful to provide a scientific basis for making policies to control the number of HIV and AIDS cases in Indonesia. © 2025 The Authors

Current article has been developed for understanding the impact of data analytics and machine learning technique in e-commerce. Identification of the problem of costing and different algorithm suitability objectives has been set for understanding the real impact of e-commerce. Secondary data collection has been used for understanding the different usability of machine learning and data analytics for e-commerce. It has been detected that using machine learning brings the benefits of automation and improves continuous growth. Data analytics provide the scope of accuracy build-up. Apart from this different area of application and the different techniques has been analyzed. Understanding become easier and the scope of future benefits can be identified.

The hepatitis C virus (HCV), a major causative agent of chronic liver disease, is responsible for the incidence of hepatitis infections worldwide. In line with the World Health Organization's goal of reducing global new infections by 90% and viral hepatitis-related mortality rates by 65% by 2030, we proposed a miniaturized indium tin oxide-based extended gate field-effect transistor biosensor for rapid and specific detection of different HCV genotypes within 20 min. The biosensor combined loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 12 (CRISPR/Cas12a)-induced cleavage. The immobilized single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) served as a signal transmitter and underwent CRISPR/Cas12a trans-cleavage, which was triggered by specific nucleic acid pairing with complementary guide RNAs. This resulted in a significant change in the surface potential, which indicated the presence of HCV-viral RNA. The sensor demonstrated high sensitivity, with a detection limit as low as 1 genomic copy/reaction and a 10-fold increase in robustness for low concentration tests. The clinical results are consistent with those of the polymerase chain reaction. This research offered a rapid, sensitive, and digital diagnostic method for HCV viral infections, particularly suited for resource-limited settings, contributing to the elimination of hepatitis. © 2023

Systems thinking on renewable energy: A bibliometric analysis

Energy is a systematic problem involving many fields and disciplines. Discourse about it requires systems thinking. This research aims to reveal trends and future work related to system thinking on renewable energy. The method used is a bibliometric analysis of the Scopus database using VOSviewer software. Through the selection process, 284 documents deemed relevant were selected from journal articles and conference proceedings. Through VOSviewer analysis, 4 clusters of related keyword groups are shown. Four very influential words in this research theme are systems theory with 224 occurrences, renewable energy resources with 142 occurrences, renewable energy with 112 occurrences, and system dynamics with 102 occurrences. Through network visualization, the relationship between concepts both within one cluster and between clusters is shown. The visualization overlays is used as a basis of mapping the future work related to system thinking on renewable energy which include renewable energy resources, system theory, system dynamics, alternative energy, sustainable development, decision making, and renewable energy technology. This study concludes that bibliometric analysis through VOSviewer is proven to be able to show trends and future work for systems thinking on renewable energy research.

Textural characteristics of activated carbons derived from tabah bamboo manufactured by using H 3 PO 4 chemical activation

Activated carbon utilization in a different application requires a specific characteristic. Textural characteristics such as pore volume (V P ), surface area (S A ), pore diameter (D P ) and pore size distribution (PSDs) have an important effect on the quality and utility of activated carbon. Such characteristics are attributed to the activated carbon adsorption capacity. This research is concerned to investigate the textural properties of activated carbons derived from tabah bamboo ( Gigantochloa nigrociliata ) which are chemically activated using H 3 PO 4 activating agent. Carbonization was carried out up to 800 O C for 1.5 hours. Activations were set up to 820 O C for each 50, 100 and 150 minutes. The activated carbons produced are expressed as AC-50min, AC-100min, and AC-150min each for activation during 50, 100, and 150 minutes. The results of the research show that the higher activation time produced activated carbons with higher pore volume and wider average pore diameter but no pattern was observed on the surface area. The highest surface area of 398.400 m 2 /g and the highest pore volume of 0.680 cc/g were achieved by AC-100min and AC-150min activated carbons, respectively. The highest N 2 adsorption capacity of 48.743 cc/g was achieved on the activated carbon of AC-150min. AC-50min, AC-100min, and AC-150min have average pore diameters, respectively, around of 1.258 nm, 1.750 nm, and 3.950 nm. AC-50min and AC-100min produced pores with a monomodal pore size distribution and a bimodal pore size distribution was found on AC-150min

Carbon source as a template derived from nypa leaf powder enable to strengthen the silica matrix applied for water desalination. This research aims to synthesize silica-nypa membrane, characterize xerogel silica-nypa leaf and investigate the performance of silica-nypa membrane with various concentration of nypa as a carbon template to treat artificial sea water. The concentrations of nypa leaf as a carbon template are 0.1; 0.5 and 2.5 %wt with a calcination temperature of 350 °C through a rapid thermal processing (RTP) technique. Xerogel characterization using FTIR was employed to analyze a spectrum and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to investigate the membrane morphology. The result shows that the performance of silica-nypa membrane with water fluxes of 2.1915; 2.0163 and 1.1067 kg.m−2. h−1 (for 0.1; 0.5 and 2.5 %wt. carbon template derived from nypa leaf), and the salt rejection value for all concentrations.

A lot of Research has been developed to improve the reliability of smart parking systems. The utilization of computer vision is more beneficial than using sensors for the detection of parking spaces on smart parking systems. One smart camera can monitor multiple parking spaces according to camera sensing. The use of cameras is more efficient than using sensors, because sensors require expensive installation and maintenance costs. The accuracy and computational time are challenges that must be resolved by applying computer vision to classify the parking spaces. We perform several comparisons of computer vision classifications by utilizing the pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The mAlexnet customization is called by CmAlexnet to improve accuracy in classification. Parking space classification for CNRPark Camera A and B dataset was done. GoogleNet, Alexnet, VGGNet, mAlexnet, and CmAlexnet had varied results. From the testing done states CmAlexnet is better in the accuracy of parking space classification. The average accuracy of CmAlexnet outperforms all pre-trained with almost the same training time as mAlexnet. The test result stated that the performance of mAlexnet can be improved.
