A simulation of R32 refrigerant mixing with R1270 to reduce GWP R410A on wall mounted air conditioning

Refrigerant R410A is a cooling barrier that is still widely used for air conditioning. This R410A contains the Fluoro element which can increase the value of GWP. In this research simulation, we used an AC unit using R410A with the aim of reducing GWP (Global Warming Potential) by mixing synthetic refrigerant with hydrocarbons. R410A still has content GWP: Mixing using R32 / R1270 refrigerant is predicted to reduce the GWP value because R1270 is one of the hydrocarbon refrigerants that has a GWP value of only: 3. By using Refprop software it can be simulated a mixture composition starting from 50/50, 40/60, 30/70, 20/80 and 10/90. From the results of the mixture simulation conducted, obtained a mixture approaching the characteristics of R410A, namely in the mixture: 20/80 with COP: 5.17 while R410A: 4.12. Compression ratio: R410A: 2.0 and for mixed refrigerants 20/80: 1.9. The refrigerant effect of mixed refrigerants is 20/80: 254,51, R410A: 162,77. Using this refrigerant mixture can reduce the GWP value and improve the performance of the AC cooling system. This refrigerant has considerable potential to replace the R410A.

Indonesia is an area prone to earthquake that may cause casualties and damage to buildings. The fatalities or the injured are not largely caused by the earthquake, but by building collapse. The collapse of the building is resulted from the building behaviour against the earthquake, and it depends on many factors, such as architectural design, geometry configuration of structural elements in horizontal and vertical plans, earthquake zone, geographical location (distance to earthquake center), soil type, material quality, and construction quality. One of the geometry configurations that may lead to the collapse of the building is irregular configuration of non-parallel system. In accordance with FEMA-451B, irregular configuration in non-parallel system is defined to have existed if the vertical lateral force-retaining elements are neither parallel nor symmetric with main orthogonal axes of the earthquake-retaining axis system. Such configuration may lead to torque, diagonal translation and local damage to buildings. It does not mean that non-parallel irregular configuration should not be formed on architectural design;however the designer must know the consequence of earthquake behaviour against buildings with irregular configuration of non-parallel system. The present research has the objective to identify earthquake behaviour in architectural geometry with irregular configuration of non-parallel system. The present research was quantitative with simulation experimental method. It consisted of 5 models, where architectural data and model structure data were inputted and analyzed using the software SAP2000 in order to find out its performance, and ETAB2015 to determine the eccentricity occurred. The output of the software analysis was tabulated, graphed, compared and analyzed with relevant theories. For areas of strong earthquake zones, avoid designing buildings which wholly form irregular configuration of non-parallel system. If it is inevitable to design a building

Growing population, rapid urbanization, and increasing travel demand emphasize the need for reliable public transportation systems and sustainable transportation planning. A reliable bus service fosters a more significant, satisfied, and committed base of users. This research focuses on examining the association between on-time performance (OTP) and road network, demographic, socioeconomic, and land use characteristics to identify relevant external factors for proactive and reliable public transportation system planning. The analysis was conducted at a bus stop level. Bus arrival/departure data from the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) was obtained. The road network, demographic, socioeconomic, and land use characteristics were captured within 0.25-mile and 0.50-mile buffers. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to understand the association between OTP and road network, demographic, socioeconomic, and land use characteristics by day of the week and time of the day. The results show that OTP is associated with external factors such as the number of signalized or cul-de-sac/dead-end intersections, number of lanes, network density, population, income (median and total), and land use types related to residential and commercial/employment purposes within the bus stop vicinity. The findings provide vital insights for transit agencies to enhance scheduling, service and maximize benefits, effectively utilize available resources, plan, and provide equitable services to all riders. © 2023 The Author(s)

Transit Oriented Development, hereinafter referred to as TOD, is a concept of regional development based and centered on a mass public transit station, which accommodates new growth into a mixed area with an area of 350 m to 700 m from the center of the area that is integrated with the area around it through the use of ground surface space, elevated space and underground. In the existing conditions in the field and the lack of availability of public transport services to the public there are still lacks of lack of attention from transportation providers, one of which is the interconnection and integration of public transport, where the facilities and infrastructure for moving public transportation are inadequate at the beginning and end of a trip (first mile and last mile). smooth traffic is needed to meet the target of public transport services. Planning and reevaluating traffic networks and implementing transportation policies that can support the use of public transportation. The need for integration of public transportation in order to reduce travel time, as well as to improve the standard of living of the people, then based on these considerations, the Development of DKI Jakarta TOD needs to be done as an effort to realize healthy transportation.

Background: Wound healing is a complex and dynamic process involving the replacement of devitalized and missing cellular structures and tissue layers. Methods: This study involved developing a drug-loaded biomimetic micropillar wound dressing based upon inspiration from witnessing the adhesive ability in a gecko's footpad. The conformal adhesion was set up by applying a soft elastomer thin film on the developed wound dressing surfaces. The results showed that the developed surfaces prepared based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) had low surface free energy, high chemical stability, and good plasticity. Astaxanthin (AST) and curcumin were applied as the patch's bioactive compounds to help accelerate the wound healing process. Results: The results showed that the developed surfaces prepared based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) had low surface free energy, high chemical stability, and good plasticity. Astaxanthin (AST) and curcumin were applied as the patch's bioactive compounds to help accelerate the wound healing process. The results indicate that the developed biomimetic micropillar patches could release the loaded drugs and significantly increase cell viability and collagen content to 20 % ∼ 25 % in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion: In summation, the primary purpose of this study has been to design a novel encapsulated carrier (micropillar patch) for use in adjustable drug release, while combining with the biomimetic microstructure to reach wound healing through percutaneous absorption. © 2024 Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers

The impact of the development of the UNNES Campus in Sekaran, a suburb of Semarang City, has become a trigger for the growth of new activities which require the provision of new spaces, especially settlements. This phenomenon shows the growth of settlements that ignore the environment. This study aims to examine the influence of the building mass configuration of settlements around the UNNES Sekaran Campus on environmental carrying capacity as a buffer zone for Semarang City. This studi uses descriptive exploratory method which aims to describe the state of a phenomenon in the field. The results of this study are the influence of the building mass configuration of settelements on environmental carrying capacity. The configuration of the building mass that does not pay attention to rainwater infiltration and reduction of sun exposure has an impact on reducing the supporting capacity of the environment and reducing occupant comfort.

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel produced by chemical reaction between vegetable oil or animal fat with alcohol and catalyst. The preliminary treatment in extraction of biodiesel feedstock is an important process to obtain maximum yield of crude oil. This study aims to find optimal preliminary treatment on extraction of Kemiri Sunan seed in order to produce crude oil with maximum yield and quality. The research investigated the effects of screw press machine rotation and duration of steaming process. Three levels of duration of steaming used were 30, 60 and 90 minutes. Observations of crude oil yield, moisture content, free fatty acid content, kinematic viscosity, density and color were done. The result suggested that the rotation of screw press machine affected the crude oil yield. The duration of steaming process affected the oil yield, free fatty acid content, kinematic viscosity, density and color. The best oil yield result of 70.3% was obtained from the combination of heating duration of 60' and screw rotation of 25 RPM. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Deceleration performance and stopping distance of hybrid composite brake lining pads of basalt and clam shell

Brake lining is one of the components of the braking system on a vehicle that plays an important role for the safety of the driver. Recently, the development of brake lining materials has attracted the attention of many researchers. At first many brake pads were made of asbestos as the main material, but this brake lining material has begun to be abandoned because it has a negative impact on health and the environment. This paper presents the results of research on the development of a hybrid composite as a brake lining material. This hybrid composite is composed of the main ingredients of basalt and green clam shell waste, as well as a small amount of alumina with phenolic resin as a binder. Hybrid composite brake lining material is made through a sintering process with an emphasis of 2 tons for 30 minutes at a constant temperature of 150°C. Hybrid composite brake pads made 3 variations of weight fraction were tested on a motorcycle to see the performance of deceleration and braking distance. Also tested brake lining with asbestos material as a comparison. The lowest deceleration performance was asbestos brake lining at 6.79 m/s2, while the highest deceleration was HC4 brake lining (35% basalt-15% clam shell) of 11.51 m/s2. While the shortest braking distance is HC4 brake pads (35% basalt-15% shell) of 3.02 meters, while the longest braking distance of asbestos is 15.18 meters. The increase in the percentage of basalt content and the decrease in the percentage of clam shell content indicate a tendency to increase the magnitude of deceleration, and a tendency to decrease the braking distance for each vehicle's initial speed.

Recently, there has been a growing interest in artificial skin on hydrogels as a potential alternative for animal testing to evaluate the efficacy and safety of new drugs or cosmetics. Synthetic polymers have been widely used due to their superior physicochemical properties. However, synthetic polymers such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) are limited by their poor biocompatibility and cell adhesion. Combining synthetic and natural polymers can improve these properties. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of alginate and chitosan addition to PVA-based hydrogels on protein adsorption, cell viability and cell attachment. The addition of chitosan decreased protein adsorption, which was caused by the changes in electrostatic charge by PVA-chitosan interaction and changes in surface roughness. Primary human fibroblast cells cultured on PVA, PVA-alginate and PVA-chitosan had >80% viability which indicates the cytocompatibility of the hydrogels. More importantly, alginate and chitosan also improved the cell attachment on the PVA-based hydrogels. Taken together, the addition of both alginate and chitosan has the potential to improve PVA-based hydrogels for artificial skin application.
