Soybean is a critical source of food, protein and oil, and thus has received extensive research aimed at enhancing their yield, refining cultivation practices, and advancing soybean breeding techniques. Within this context, soybean pod counting plays an essential role in understanding and optimizing production. Despite recent advancements, the development of a robust pod-counting algorithm capable of performing effectively in real-field conditions remains a significant challenge This paper presents a pioneering work of accurate soybean pod counting utilizing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images captured from actual soybean fields in Michigan, USA. Specifically, this paper presents SoybeanNet, a novel point-based counting network that harnesses powerful transformer backbones for simultaneous soybean pod counting and localization with high accuracy. In addition, a new dataset of UAV-acquired images for soybean pod counting was created and open-sourced, consisting of 113 drone images with more than 260k manually annotated soybean pods captured under natural lighting conditions. Through comprehensive evaluations, SoybeanNet demonstrates superior performance over five state-of-the-art approaches when tested on the collected images. Remarkably, SoybeanNet achieves a counting accuracy of 84.51% when tested on the testing dataset, attesting to its efficacy in real-world scenarios. Convergence analysis of dual decomposition algorithm in distributed optimization: Asynchrony and inexactness

Dual decomposition is widely utilized in distributed optimization of multi-agent systems. In practice, the dual decomposition algorithm is desired to admit an asynchronous implementation due to imperfect communication, such as time delay and packet drop. In addition, computational errors also exist when individual agents solve their own subproblems. In this paper, we analyze the convergence of the dual decomposition algorithm in distributed optimization when both the asynchrony in communication and the inexactness in solving subproblems exist. We find that the interaction between asynchrony and inexactness slows down the convergence rate from O(1/k) to O(1/√k). Specifically, with a constant step size, the value of objective function converges to a neighborhood of the optimal value, and the solution converges to a neighborhood of the exact optimal solution. Moreover, the violation of the constraints diminishes in O(1/√k). Our result generalizes and unifies the existing ones that only consider either asynchrony or inexactness. Integrated energy system is composed of different multiple energy systems. When the combined heat and power (CHP) unit fails, more than one energy systems can be influenced. Therefore, it is very important to improve the reliability of CHP unit. In this paper, we propose a maintenance decision making model for CHP unit based on opportunistic maintenance strategy. Firstly, the expression of the availability of CHP unit considering opportunistic maintenance is derived. And then, in order to quantify the impact of different maintenance strategies on system operation, system operation risk is given taking electrical load loss and thermal load loss into account. Finally, maintenance decision making model of the CHP unit is established with maintenance constraints. Case studies show that the model can optimize maintenance strategies and improve the reliability of CHP unit and the overall system efficiency. © 2020 IEEE.

A large number of robotic kits is commercially available for children education nowadays. Regarding the programming possibilities of these kits, they are usually divided into three categories: i) textual languages based kits, ii) digital blocks based kits and iii) tangible blocks based kits. In tangible blocks kits, the programming instructions are represented by physical - touchable - elements like blocks, cards or buttons. Since these are concrete objects, they are usually more playful and accessible for young children mainly in the concrete operational stage. Another relevant aspect in robotic kits is the possibility for children to follow the code execution at runtime. This process may be crucial for comprehending the programming process and for developing debugging abilities. In tangible programming based kits, this visual tracking is far more complex than in textual or digital blocks based kits since it typically requires the transmission of information between a lot of distinct physical pieces. The present work proposes and discusses the implementation of a digital electronic circuit with bluetooth communication designed for educational robotics kit and capable to provide a visual feedback. Results demonstrate that the proposed circuit is functional and feasible for embedding in robotic kits at a low cost.

Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) and rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) technologies are at the forefront of enhancing spectrum and energy efficiency in the next generation multi-antenna communication systems. This paper explores a RSMA system with multiple IRSs, and proposes two purpose-driven scheduling schemes, i.e., the exhaustive IRS-aided (EIA) and opportunistic IRS-aided (OIA) schemes. The aim is to optimize the system weighted energy efficiency (EE) under the above two schemes, respectively. Specifically, the Dinkelbach, branch and bound, successive convex approximation, and the semidefinite relaxation methods are exploited within the alternating optimization framework to obtain effective solutions to the considered problems. The numerical findings indicate that the EIA scheme exhibits better performance compared to the OIA scheme in diverse scenarios when considering the weighted EE, and the proposed algorithm demonstrates superior performance in comparison to the baseline algorithms. This paper revisits the stabilization problem of switched linear systems with time-varying delay via state dependent switching strategies. In contrast to the existing works, the commonly adopted stable convex combination assumption is relaxed in this paper. For switched systems satisfying the relaxed assumption, we design a state dependent switching strategy, under which the considered system is asymptotically stable at the origin in the presence of time-varying delay. An optimization problem is formulated to estimate the upper bound of tolerable time delay. Numerical examples are presented to show that our method is applicable to a larger class of switched systems and leads to greater delay bound.

The main content of the research in this paper is the estimation of depth and pose based on monocular vision and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). The usual depth estimation network and pose estimation network require depth ground truth or pose ground truth as a supervised signal for training, while the depth ground truth and pose ground truth are hard to obtain, and monocular vision based depth estimation cannot predict absolute depth. In this paper, with the help of IMU, which is inexpensive and widely used, we can obtain angular velocity and acceleration information. Two new supervision signals are proposed and the calculation expressions are given. Among them, the model trained with acceleration constraint shows a good ability to estimate the absolute depth during the test. It can be considered that the model can estimate the absolute depth. We also derive the method of estimating the scale factor during the test from the acceleration constraint, and also achieve good results as the acceleration constraint does. In addition, this paper also studies the method of using IMU information as pose network input and as selecting conditions. Moreover, it analyzes and discusses the experimental results. At the same time, we also evaluate the effect of the pose estimation of the relevant models. This article starts by reviewing the achievements and deficiencies of the work in this field, combines the use of IMU, puts forward three new methods such as a new loss function, and conducts a test analysis and discussion of relevant indicators on the KITTI data set.
