The delay-dependent guaranteed cost control problem is studied for a class of uncertain nonlinear discrete systems with time-delay. A sufficient condition is presented for the existence of a memory state feedback and a parameterized representation of the control laws is given in terms of certain linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The non-convex feasible problem is converted into convex optimization problem, and the design procedure of optimal control law is given.

It has been found that some huge overshoot in the sense of sup-norm may be observed when typical iterative learning control (ILC) algorithms are applied to LTI systems, even though monotone convergence in the sense of λ-norm is guaranteed. In this paper, a new ILC algorithm with adjustment of learning interval is proposed to resolve such an undesirable phenomenon, and it is shown that the output error can be monotonically converged to zero in the sense of sup-norm when the proposed ILC algorithm is applied. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Statechart has been utilized as a visual formalism for the modeling of complex and interactive systems for its illuminating features on describing properties of causality, concurrency, and synchronization. This paper presents the application of satechart to the modeling, design and implementation of an elevator system, whose system behavior involves aggregating complexity of state descriptions, and imposition of underlying control policy. Based on the operational flow of an elevator, we derive the associated statechart model by looking into the inherent hierarchical structure of the elevator. The advantage of the proposed approach is the clear presentation of system behavior in terms of conditions and events that cause the transitions in system dynamics. Implementation of the controlled elevator based on the modeled statechart is also presented.

Solution techniques for Markov decision problems rely on exact knowledge of the transition rates, which may be difficult or impossible to obtain. In this paper, we consider Markov decision problems with uncertain transition rates represented as compact sets. We first consider the problem of sensitivity analysis where the aim is to quantify the range of uncertainty of the average per-unit-time reward given the range of uncertainty of the transition rates. We then develop solution techniques for the problem of obtaining the max-min optimal policy, which maximizes the worst-case average per-unit-time reward. In each of these problems, we distinguish between systems that can have their transition rates chosen independently and those where the transition rates depend on each other. Our solution techniques are applicable to Markov decision processes with fixed but unknown transition rates and to those with time-varying transition rates.

The panel efficiency of a stand-alone photovoltaic system is usually used to define the performance of the entire system. The typical efficiency value for silicon modules is about 15%. The performance of all components is a number hard to be known. This paper aims to determine the fully efficiency of the entire PV system, calculating the electrical energy from the frequency inverter output and the total solar energy from the Sun. The relationship between the array and the lead-acid battery dimensioning is shown;the best practices try to reduce the premature capacity loss of the battery, but it also reduces the global performance of the system. An experimental procedure measured the real efficiency of an entire system, that is about 50% of the solar radiation available over the solar modules, which is different from the 84% rate available from the bibliography.

This paper reports the digital-time domain and frequency domain studies on a typical 132kV Capacitor Voltage Transformer (CVT) model. The transient studies are conducted using Alternative Transient program (ATP-EMTP). Simulation results corresponding to the CVT transient response under both system fault and ferroresonance condition are reported in this paper. Transient studies are performed (1) to identify the CVT components that contribute to the transient response of CVT, (2) to determine system condition that affect the CVT transient response. A lightning simulation case study is also presented.

Modular current source converters (MCSC) can enhance the current capacity and improve the power quality at medium voltage PWM motor drives. A MCSC uses individual three-phase modules in a shunt connection to share the total power in a symmetrical manner. The modulation of these units is normally done using optimized patterns as selective harmonic elimination (SHE). However, the optimization is usually performed at each module. This paper proposes a modulating technique that optimizes the operation of a MCSC built up of P modules. Thus, for the same switching frequency, P times the number of harmonics are removed from the injected ac current as compared to the regular approach. A complete mathematical formulation as well as experimental results validate the theoretical considerations

The model of a three-phase current source rectifier (CSR) is a complex mathematical representation as it is nonlinear, multi-variable, and coupled. In order to work with a simplified but still accurate model, a representation in a rotating reference frame dq0 in combination with an average model are normally used. The result is a model that operates with ripple free inputs, outputs, and state variables that should be the accurate average value of the actual variables. However, the average model of these topologies could lead to errors if damping resistors are used. A case study shows as much as 10% error in the DC link current between the actual value and the predicted by the average model. This paper finds and shows systematically the source of the error and proposes a method for the accurate average modeling of CSRs with damping resistors. Simulated results show the validity of the theoretical considerations
