Local governments require new techniques and innovative approaches to assess initiatives to support the transition towards carbon neutrality. This paper presents a methodological approach for integrated building energy modeling and analysis of the impacts of energy conservation measures (ECMs) and energy-related CO 2 emissions in urban areas. To accomplish this goal, the proposed methodology follows four steps: (1) developing a building stock model for urban databases using a geographic information system (GIS) and QGIS software; (2) creating a detailed archetype-based building stock model using OpenStudio and EnergyPlus; (3) carrying out a scenario analysis of possible ECMs and pathways to achieve carbon neutrality; and (4) analyzing energy savings and energy-related CO 2 emissions. The developed methodology was applied to a tourism urban area, using Pattaya city as a case study. Based on the GIS building model, six archetypes were identified from all residential buildings, including hotels located in the study area. Prototypes of representative building energy models were simulated for a reference case with four ECMs. The results indicated that the building stock in the reference case used 497,669.05 TJ annually and emitted 80,470.32 ktC02eq. Of the four ECMs, a change to double glazing with low-E coating gave the highest energy savings and reductions in CO 2 emissions. This measure led to energy savings of 9,342.82 TJ and emission reductions of 356.23 ktC02eq compared to the reference case. Local governments and stakeholders can benefit from the proposed methodological approach for decision making related to energy and carbon neutrality pathways.

Urban services, such as water and energy resources, are usually consumed more in a tourism city, than in other city types. The water-energy nexus also contributes to the CO 2 emissions from urban areas. The purpose of this research is to investigate the link between water distribution systems, electricity consumption, and energy-related CO 2 emissions from water networks in Pattaya city, Thailand. These networks operate under the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA). The water distribution system was modeled in EPANET software, to simulate and examine the water supply capacity in the service pipes, to ensure that it meets the requirement set by PWA. Data were collected from PWA, in terms of the pressure and flow rate of the water supply and the amount of electricity consumption. The current water distribution system consists of 18 junctions, a with flow rate of 1,000 m 3 /hour and pressure at 45 m. The electricity consumption is 720 kWh/day and energy-related CO 2 emissions are 419.11 kgCO 2 eq/day. The water distribution system was modeled and analyzed to find the optimum flow rate and pressure for the least electricity consumption. The results show that the optimum solution is the flow rate of 1,500 m 3 /hour and a pressure at 50 m. Consequently, the electricity consumption is 300 kWh/day, while CO 2 emissions are reduced to 174.63 kgCO 2 eq/day. The findings from this study would benefit the PWA by reducing the electricity consumption and CO 2 emissions equivalent to 109 MWh/year and 63.73 tCO 2 eq, respectively.

The heterogeneity of the microstructure and the anisotropy of the mechanical properties of carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites (CFRP) are associated with complex damage mechanisms that make failure prediction highly challenging. Typical damage mechanisms for CFRP include: (i) interlaminar cracking (delamination), (ii) matrix cracking, and (iii) fiber breakage. X-ray computed tomography (CT) has been utilized recently to identify the complex damage in progressive failure of CFRP in 3D and 4D (3D spatial and 1D temporal). However, these scans contain a large amount of data (≈10 GB/mm3), which makes it challenging to extract mechanistic insights in a reasonable time frame. In previous work, we presented the first deep learning (DL) convolutional neural network (CNN) segmentation of multiclass microscale matrix damage in CFRP. The trained CNN segments complex and sparse composite matrix damage mechanism to ≈ 99.99% agreement, with nearly 100% of human time eliminated, providing higher accuracy compared to human segmentation. In this work, we developed CNN-based method for the automated segmentation of fiber breaks using synchrotron radiation-based CT (SRCT) scans that have been human-labeled. The model employed a U-Net full CNN as the high-level encoder (feature extraction)-decoder (feature localization) structure, and VGG16 as the deep CNN backbone via the publicly available Segmentation Models GitHub repository. An unbiased evaluation was performed comparing the machine vs. the human-labeled ground truth. Finally, active learning was presented for the machine-assisted relabeling of datasets containing fiber breaks. The deep learning-based automated segmentation method demonstrated accurate identification (> 90%) of fiber breakage for CFRP. © 2023 by DEStech Publications, Inc. and American Society for Composites. The building sector represents high potential to address the energy use and occupants' comfort and well-being. This paper aims to proposed a methodological framework to assess energy and thermal comfort performance in buildings. The research framework was applied in an educational building using a library of Dhurakij Pundit University (DPU), Thailand as a case study. A representative building was modeled using SketchUp plugin with OpenStudio platform and EnergyPlus simulation engine for energy simulation. Thermal comfort parameters were measured in each floor of DPU's library and calculation of thermal comfort indices based on the PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD (Predicted Percentage Dissatisfied) using the CBE Thermal Comfort Tool. It was found that the simulated energy is in line with the measured data with differences between -0.26% to 3.87%, depending on the floor. The energy intensity of DPU's library is 66.53 kWh/m2/year. Based on the measurements, the PMV and PPD of a reference building are -0.57 and 12%. Ten measures were simulated to assess the energy performance as well as thermal comfort conditions. It was found that seven measures can address both energy performance and thermal comfort in a case study building.

Energy crisis and environmental harm force economies to delve in to more sustainable practices. In this entire scenario, financial technology plays major role in mitigating harmful emissions as it promotes renewable energy resources that may help in increasing eco-friendly consumption. To have better understanding of particular transition mechanism, the study scrutinizes the panel data of 10 Asian economies for the time period 2002–2022. The study extends the empirical debate on the theory of energy by exploring the nexus among green finance, fintech, financial inclusion, natural resources, and energy efficiency. The study was rooted in an econometric methodology through the implementation of ARDL model to evaluate the long- and short-run associations among the variables. Data was extracted from global databases. The analysis provided critical insights into the associations among the variables. Firstly, the study showed that Fintech negatively impacts energy efficiency. On the other hand, GDP and energy efficiency were positively and significantly associated. Similarly, total natural resources positively and significantly influenced energy efficiency in the long-run although increasing green finance leads to a decline in energy efficiency in the long-run. Short-run coefficients lacked statistical significance. The vector error correction model unfolded a significant and negative error correction term, indicating the adjustment to equilibrium in long-run. This study not only adds to the existing literature but also offers valuable insights into energy dynamics for policymakers, governments, and future researchers. © 2024

Efficient stochastic generators with spherical harmonic transformation for high-resolution global climate simulations from CESM2-LENS2

Earth system models (ESMs) are fundamental for understanding Earth’s complex climate system. However, the computational demands and storage requirements of ESM simulations limit their utility. For the newly published CESM2-LENS2 data, which suffer from this issue, we propose a novel stochastic generator (SG) as a practical complement to the CESM2, capable of rapidly producing emulations closely mirroring training simulations. Our SG leverages the spherical harmonic transformation (SHT) to shift from spatial to spectral domains, enabling efficient low-rank approximations that significantly reduce computational and storage costs. By accounting for axial symmetry and retaining distinct ranks for land and ocean regions, our SG captures intricate non-stationary spatial dependencies. Additionally, a modified Tukey g-and-h (TGH) transformation accommodates non-Gaussianity in high-temporal-resolution data. We apply the proposed SG to generate emulations for surface temperature simulations from the CESM2-LENS2 data across various scales, marking the first attempt of reproducing daily data. These emulations are then meticulously validated against training simulations. This work offers a promising complementary pathway for efficient climate modeling and analysis while overcoming computational and storage limitations. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. This study examines Instagram influencers' social media behavior and providing suggestions for increasing engagement and purchase intentions towards endorsed products via post-effectiveness. Several objectives will be raised in this study: (1) determining the effect of content vividness on social media engagement, (2) determining the impact of social media engagement on purchase intentions, (3) determining the effect of content vividness on purchase intentions. This quantitative study utilizes Partial Least Square (PLS) software as a tool to test validity and reliability and SPSS to test the hypothesis and regression model. With the total of 199 valid respondents participating into this study's survey, the result highlights the positive effects of content vividness in enhancing purchase intentions through mediating variable, namely social media engagement. © 2023 IEEE.

Students’ computational thinking and programming skills may grow due to collaborative programming. But as the researchers have noted, students frequently do not use metacognition to manage their cognitive activities while collaborating, which negatively affects learning. This study created a metacognition-based collaborative programming (MCP) system to improve students’ performance in collaborative programming. A seven-week study examined how the approach affected students’ performance in programming courses. The 88 middle school students were split into two groups: the experimental group received the metacognition-based collaborative programming approach, and the control group received the conventional computer-supported collaborative programming approach. The results indicated that the metacognitive-based collaborative programming approach enhanced students’ academic scores in programming courses and their computational thinking tendencies. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Equitable public infrastructure development has benefits both locally and nationally as it can improve the economy and the welfare of local population. However, achieving equitable infrastructure development remains challenging due to various obstacles, such as financial issues, environmental concerns like land clearing, and planning difficulties. To address these challenges, this study aims to develop a spatial model for public infrastructure planning in Indonesia, with a case study in Indonesia in East Nusa Tenggara (ENT) Province. The infrastructure includes transportation (roads) and basic services (health and education facilities). The research considers aspects of accessibility, socio-economic factors, and disasters using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Geographical Information Science (GIS) methods to determine development priorities. ENT was chosen because it has a low Human Development Index (HDI) and a high poverty rate in Indonesia. The results of this study indicate that priority areas for public infrastructure development in East Nusa Tenggara are dominated by the moderate class, covering 34.48% of the area, followed by the high class at 30.46%, the low class at 22.89%, and the very high class at 12.17%. The districts/cities with the highest area percentages in ENT are East Sumba, West Sumba, and Southwest Sumba. It is hoped that the results of this study can serve as a basis for policymakers in determining priority areas for public infrastructure development efficiently and effectively. © Author(s) 2025.

International publication trends in Lean Agile management research: a bibliometric analysis

Challenged by complex problems and the speed of technological, social, and environmental change, the joint approach of Lean management and the Agile Mindset has been explored in business as a management model. This paper aimed to carry out a bibliometric analysis of Lean Agile management, pointing out trends in scientific research. To this end, an exploratory and descriptive study was developed, with a quantitative approach and based on secondary data from the Web of Science and Scopus, between 1994 and 2022. Bibliometric indicators pointed to 1808 different papers in 897 sources, with 18 citations per paper, and higher scientific productivity of U.S. (276), India (221), and UK (191), with production peaks in 2018 and 2021, suggesting the diffusion and contemporaneity of the research topic. The laws of bibliometrics were not met for this research subject, and dense networks of collaboration and co-citation among researchers were identified, mainly in four application domains, including supply chain, manufacturing, sustainability, and software development as corroborated by the word network.
