This paper proposes a simple Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) program to classify epileptic seizure. The diagnosis of epileptic seizure involves the identification and different characteristic of the Electroencephalography (EEG) signal. As such, it needs a method for identifying and classifying epileptic seizure. Deep learning is part of a neural network that has the ability and pattern to identify and classify epileptic seizure. CNN has been demonstrated high performance on image classification and pattern detection. In this paper, we combine the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and CNN to classify epileptic seizure. This experiment uses the wavelet transform to convert signal data of EEG to time-frequency domain images. The output of the wavelet transform is an image that will classify into five attributes. In this experiment, we develop a simple program that will compare with other CNN approach (AlexNet and GoogleNet). The results of this experiment are two kinds of data, accuracy, and loss. The resulting accuracy is 72.49%, and the loss is 0.576. This result has a better learning time than GoogleNet and smaller loss result than AlexNet. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The advanced computational capabilities of artificial intelligence, particularly large language models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, offer great potential for addressing the complex developmental challenges faced by cities globally. These challenges are those that traditional urban planning methods often struggle to tackle. We explore how large language models can be leveraged to automate and support various urban planning tasks, providing nuanced computational support and advanced analytical capabilities. We highlight potential applications throughout the planning process and discuss the barriers and challenges involved. By setting a research agenda, we aim to foster the integration of artificial intelligence in urban planning, enhancing the field’s ability to create positive, inclusive and effective urban solutions.

Silybin A enhances circadian clock by targeting CRY1 and disrupting its interaction with CLOCK

Circadian clock governs a large array of physiological and metabolic functions. The amplitude decline of circadian rhythm is associated with various chronic diseases. However, few clock enhancing-molecules are known. CRY1 is one of the main components of the core circadian clock and its binding with CLOCK leads to decreased transcriptional activity. Thus, compounds interfering with CRY1-CLOCK interaction may enhance circadian rhythm. Natural products are rich sources of drug discovery and herb-based virtual screen provides an efficient way to identify active herbs. Here, by performing herb-based virtual screen against the CLOCK interacting pocket in CRY1 and cell-based assays, we found that Silybum marianum, a widely used medical plant, can activate circadian clock transcription. Molecular level studies showed that its extract silymarin can bind to CRY1 and disrupt CRY1-CLOCK interaction. Further computational and experimental analysis revealed that silybin A is the main bioactive compound that enhances the amplitude of circadian rhythm by reducing the negative arm of the transcription/translation feedback loop. Silybum marianum and its main extract, silymarin, were reported to have hepatoprotective, cardiovascular-protective, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and anti-cancer effects with unclear mechanism. Our study revealed that silymarin and the purified compound silybin A may perform their pharmacological functions by modulating circadian clock. We also demonstrate that disrupting CRY1-CLOCK interaction provides a new route for upregulating circadian rhythm and the CLOCK binding site in CRY1 serves as a druggable pocket for discovering clock enhancing molecules for treating related diseases. © 2022 The Authors

Adaptive thermal comfort guidelines have been developed within the work of Annex 69: "Strategy and practice of adaptive thermal comfort in low energy buildings". The guidelines have been established based on a framework for adopting adaptive thermal comfort principles in building design and operation developed by the authors. The guidelines target building practitioners, addressing the critical interrelated role building planners, building operators and occupants play. A successful adaptive thermal comfort design, in which design for human thermal adaptation is foreseen, planned, and carefully embedded in the design and operation intent, is based on broad knowledge and understanding of the multiple quantifiable and non-quantifiable factors influencing human perception, as well as human building interaction. Adaptive building design follows a user-centric integrated design approach and therefore it is critical to consider the occupants' and the operators' role in buildings already in the design phase. This paper focuses on three main challenges identified earlier and how these are addressed in the guidelines, i.e. i) updating prevailing knowledge about human thermophysiology and adaptation, ii) developing a procedure for design of adaptive opportunities, and iii) providing guidance for operational planning and operation of adaptive buildings. The challenge for future research remains to assess the magnitude of how specific design decisions affect particular adaptive mechanisms. © 2020 11th Windsor Conference: Resilient Comfort, WINDSOR 2020 - Proceedings. This essay poses questions about the ubiquity of terrazzo in our contemporary moment. Originally an aggregate material created by skilled craftsmen, terrazzo has since been reduced to a pattern printed on small design objects and circulated worldwide. Like wood, marble, and brick, it has been divorced from its materiality, and reduced to a reproducible graphic motif. How did terrazzo go from innocuous flooring material to icon? Why do digitally produced surfaces often imitate existing materials, rather than offering new innovative alternatives? This essay will analyze contemporary trends concerning terrazzo while considering the effects of digital practices on traditional crafts.

He has published more than 20 articles in reputed international journals has authored two books written articles and columns for newspapers and is quoted on issues related to leadership and marketing by various media platforms. His research work comprises construction of brand personality scale for media aesthetics and phenomenological design. His recent publications are on philosophy of a photograph hermeneutic reality of product and on philosophy of intimate spaces. R. Dhanuskodi has nearly 40 years of R&D experience at BHEL India in technical areas applicable for thermal power plants. He is a life member of The Institution of Engineers (India) and The Combustion Institute. He has won two BHEL’s Excel awards under the best author category for technical papers. He has visited France Netherlands and Germany under Indo-Europe Clean Coal Development Program. He has guided 42 UG PG and PhD project works. He holds 11 patents 40 copyrights and 2 design registrations. He has presented papers in 20 conferences and published in 10 national and international journals. R. Kaliappan completed his bachelors in electrical and electronics engineering and Masters in Computer Science. He has 36 years of research experience in different fields of power generation and power plant subsystems such as heat transfer studies on boiler circulation efficiency improvements of boiler subsystems product improvements/ enhancements and setting up test facilities for research studies. He has published a number of technical papers on MHD power generation and heat transfer studies in various national and international journals. The Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) is a widely used measure of a core facet of the positive body image construct. However, extant research concerning measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across a large number of nations remains limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset - with data collected between 2020 and 2022 - to assess measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis indicated that full scalar invariance was upheld across all nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups, suggesting that the unidimensional BAS-2 model has widespread applicability. There were large differences across nations and languages in latent body appreciation, while differences across gender identities and age groups were negligible-to-small. Additionally, greater body appreciation was significantly associated with higher life satisfaction, being single (versus being married or in a committed relationship), and greater rurality (versus urbanicity). Across a subset of nations where nation-level data were available, greater body appreciation was also significantly associated with greater cultural distance from the United States and greater relative income inequality. These findings suggest that the BAS-2 likely captures a near-universal conceptualisation of the body appreciation construct, which should facilitate further cross-cultural research.
