A TCP/IP-based interface design has been designed, and the interface can process data based on the Ethernet IEEE 802.3 Standard. This interface is able to identify Ethernet Frame IEEE 802.3, Header of LLC 802.2, Header and the Packet Data of IP Datagram. In addition, the interface can perform simple encryption process, and renew FCS (Frame Check Sequence) data of an ethernet frame. After the interface design had been simulated, it was implemented onto Altera Stratix EP1S10F780C6ES FPGA of an Altera Nios® Board. The interface's synthesis result shows that the interface's internal frequency is up to 78.01 MHz. Moreover, the implementation result was verified using SignalTap II Logic Analyzer. The interface functions as an emulator properly which can operate in half duplex mode.

In this paper we proposed an approach based on genetic algorithm (GA) and digital image processing (DIP) to deal with the problem of cutting identical items (pieces) with irregular shapes in metal plates (objects). The goal is to maximize the number of items to be cut in the available area of the object. In this approach both object and the items are depicted as color images. The GA is responsible for generating the solutions, each one represented by a vector containing a set of translations and angles that indicate the positions and orientations for cutting the pieces. The evaluation of each solution generated by GA is performed by an image analysis algorithm that basically detects overlapping among the items placed on the object. Preliminary experiments indicate that the use of GA combined with DIP is a good alternative for solving the investigated problem. © 2015 ACM.

Gliomas are the most common primary brain malignancies, with different degrees of aggressiveness, variable prognosis and various heterogeneous histologic sub-regions, i.e., peritumoral edematous/invaded tissue, necrotic core, active and non-enhancing core. This intrinsic heterogeneity is also portrayed in their radio-phenotype, as their sub-regions are depicted by varying intensity profiles disseminated across multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) scans, reflecting varying biological properties. Their heterogeneous shape, extent, and location are some of the factors that make these tumors difficult to resect, and in some cases inoperable. The amount of resected tumor is a factor also considered in longitudinal scans, when evaluating the apparent tumor for potential diagnosis of progression. Furthermore, there is mounting evidence that accurate segmentation of the various tumor sub-regions can offer the basis for quantitative image analysis towards prediction of patient overall survival. This study assesses the state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) methods used for brain tumor image analysis in mpMRI scans, during the last seven instances of the International Brain Tumor Segmentation (BraTS) challenge, i.e., 2012-2018. Specifically, we focus on i) evaluating segmentations of the various glioma sub-regions in pre-operative mpMRI scans, ii) assessing potential tumor progression by virtue of longitudinal growth of tumor sub-regions, beyond use of the RECIST/RANO criteria, and iii) predicting the overall survival from pre-operative mpMRI scans of patients that underwent gross total resection. Finally, we investigate the challenge of identifying the best ML algorithms for each of these tasks, considering that apart from being diverse on each instance of the challenge, the multi-institutional mpMRI BraTS dataset has also been a continuously evolving/growing dataset. Background: Experimental and epidemiological studies indicate an association between exposure to particulate matter (PM) air pollution and increased risk of type 2 diabetes. In view of the high and increasing prevalence of diabetes, we aimed to quantify the burden of type 2 diabetes attributable to PM_2·5 originating from ambient and household air pollution. Methods: We systematically compiled all relevant cohort and case-control studies assessing the effect of exposure to household and ambient fine particulate matter (PM_2·5) air pollution on type 2 diabetes incidence and mortality. We derived an exposure–response curve from the extracted relative risk estimates using the MR-BRT (meta-regression—Bayesian, regularised, trimmed) tool. The estimated curve was linked to ambient and household PM_2·5 exposures from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019, and estimates of the attributable burden (population attributable fractions and rates per 100 000 population of deaths and disability-adjusted life-years) for 204 countries from 1990 to 2019 were calculated. We also assessed the role of changes in exposure, population size, age, and type 2 diabetes incidence in the observed trend in PM_2·5-attributable type 2 diabetes burden. All estimates are presented with 95% uncertainty intervals. Findings: In 2019, approximately a fifth of the global burden of type 2 diabetes was attributable to PM_2·5 exposure, with an estimated 3·78 (95% uncertainty interval 2·68–4·83) deaths per 100 000 population and 167 (117–223) disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) per 100 000 population. Approximately 13·4% (9·49–17·5) of deaths and 13·6% (9·73–17·9) of DALYs due to type 2 diabetes were contributed by ambient PM2·5, and 6·50% (4·22–9·53) of deaths and 5·92% (3·81–8·64) of DALYs by household air pollution. Nowadays, software testing is viewed as an important phase in software engineering life cycle as it aims to improve the quality of software under development. Due to limited software testing tools available for free, many developers cannot do a comprehensive testing to the software under development before launching the software. For this reason, this research aims to provide a prototype of a software testing tool that can be used as an initial base model for further development. The tool implements white box testing method that means the testing explores source codes of software under test to find the errors inside. We focus on one of data flow coverage techniques known as all p-uses coverage. The tool is able to calculate the all p-uses coverage percentage of the software under testing.

The study of database analysis and design is typically a core in an informatics/computer science undergraduate/postgraduate study program. However, a survey conducted by Connolly in 2005 concluded that in Europe, companies considered the skill of database design is the most lacking skill in IT graduate recruits. To overcome the problem, Connolly and Begg in 2006 proposed the problem/project-based learning as an approach to study database design. This paper presents our work on a learning tool on the database analysis and design, focusing on the data requirement analysis and conceptual data modeling phase. The tool is designed based on the principles of problem/project-based learning by Connolly and Begg. The learning tool is developed on top of Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) by creating a new plug-in for data modeling called DBDesign. We conducted some interviews to a number of teachers and students of informatics/computer engineering study programs to obtain some opinions about the usefulness of the learning tool in improving the database analysis and design skills. All respondents agree that the tool will help students in learning database analysis and design. Nevertheless, some features are considered to be less important than others to be provided in such database learning tool; therefore, further study is required on the features.

In this paper, we have proposed Single Inductor Dual Output (SIDO) buck-buck and boost-boost DC-DC converter using improved RC ripple regulator control. The proposed SIDO buck-buck converter has the characteristics of lowripple and high control frequency. RC ripple regulator control can not be applied to SIDO boost-boost converter because RC ripple regulator undergoes self-excited oscillation and two self-excited oscillating controllers make the SIDO converter unstable. Thus we proposed the priority circuit for RC ripple regulator control. The proposed control circuit improves response characteristic and simplicity of the control circuit. Simulations are performed to verify the validity of the proposed SIDO converter. Simulation results indicate good performance of the proposed SIDO converter. © 2016 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

In this paper, EMI reduction method for switching power supply circuit by using PLL circuit as reference signal whose spectrum is spreaded, is proposed. M-sequence pseudo random signal is employed for PLL spectrum spread. Next, we extend this low bit M-sequence pseudo random signal to spectrum spread signal called "pseudo analog signal." The proposed pseudo analog signal can realize that the effect of the spectrum spread is wide even if the number of bit of the pseudo random circuit is small. Simulations and measurement are performed to verify the validity of the proposed method. Simulation and measurement results indicate that the proposed method have a large effect of the spectrum spread. © 2016 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted gaps in health surveillance systems, disease prevention, and treatment globally. Among the many factors that might have led to these gaps is the issue of the financing of national health systems, especially in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), as well as a robust global system for pandemic preparedness. We aimed to provide a comparative assessment of global health spending at the onset of the pandemic;characterise the amount of development assistance for pandemic preparedness and response disbursed in the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic;and examine expectations for future health spending and put into context the expected need for investment in pandemic preparedness. Methods: In this analysis of global health spending between 1990 and 2021, and prediction from 2021 to 2026, we estimated four sources of health spending: development assistance for health (DAH), government spending, out-of-pocket spending, and prepaid private spending across 204 countries and territories. We used the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)'s Creditor Reporting System (CRS) and the WHO Global Health Expenditure Database (GHED) to estimate spending. We estimated development assistance for general health, COVID-19 response, and pandemic preparedness and response using a keyword search. Health spending estimates were combined with estimates of resources needed for pandemic prevention and preparedness to analyse future health spending patterns, relative to need. Findings: In 2019, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, US$9·2 trillion (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 9·1–9·3) was spent on health worldwide. We found great disparities in the amount of resources devoted to health, with high-income countries spending $7·3 trillion (95% UI 7·2–7·4) in 2019;293·7 times the $24·8 billion (95% UI 24·3–25·3) spent by low-income countries in 2019. This study directs to research the developed business performance based on optimal costs, which is enabled by an IT value engineering concept, namely an engineering method due to IT inclusion within an organization to generate excellent performances at minor cost. Thus, the method is using systems engineering in which the processes through an engineering design process by defining the problem, generating alternative solutions, selecting a solution, detailing the design, validating the model. Furthermore, this methodology combines with the resource-based view and the partial adjustment theories. At that point, the results disclose a parallel fashion model to remain business performance completely at minimum costs.
