Internet penetration in developing countries depend on a variety of factors, including the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the density of telephone connections, and the density of personal computer users. Internet kiosks have been deployed in 21 rural ditrict areas of Garut Regency to facilitate internet access for local/district government as well as for the community who have no access to internet. Each district was equiped with 10 PCs, a printer, a scanner, and an internet connection either using DSL or cellular access technology. The program was government sponsored through the Ministry of Communications and Information of the Republic of Indonesia. This program was also designed to provide education and training for the district internet kiosks operator as well as for the staffs of information technology at Garut Regency, on understanding, efficient use, management, maintenance, as well as the ethical/professional use of information to upgrade their skills. This study was then conducted to evaluate factors affecting internet penetration in rural areas of Garut Regency, West Java of Indonesia. © 2015 IEEE.

We report a characterization of the multi-band flux variability and correlations of the nearby (z=0.031) blazar Markarian 421 (Mrk 421) using data from Metsähovi, Swift, Fermi-LAT, MAGIC, FACT and other collaborations and instruments from November 2014 till June 2016. Mrk 421 did not show any prominent flaring activity, but exhibited periods of historically low activity above 1 TeV (F>1TeV -12 ph cm-2 s-1) and in the 2-10 keV (X-ray) band (F2-10 keV -11 erg cm-2 s-1), during which the Swift-BAT data suggests an additional spectral component beyond the regular synchrotron *** highest flux variability occurs in X-rays and very-high-energy (E>0.1 TeV) γ-rays, which, despite the low activity, show a significant positive correlation with no time lag. The HRkeV and HRTeV show the harder-when-brighter trend observed in many blazars, but the trend flattens at the highest fluxes, which suggests a change in the processes dominating the blazar variability. Enlarging our data set with data from years 2007 to 2014, we measured a positive correlation between the optical and the GeV emission over a range of about 60 days centered at time lag zero, and a positive correlation between the optical/GeV and the radio emission over a range of about 60 days centered at a time lag of 43+-96 *** observation is consistent with the radio-bright zone being located about 0.2 parsec downstream from the optical/GeV emission regions of the jet. The flux distributions are better described with a LogNormal function in most of the energy bands probed, indicating that the variability in Mrk 421 is likely produced by a multiplicative process. A wide variety of Galactic sources show transient emission at soft and hard X-ray energies: low- and high-mass X-ray binaries containing compact objects, isolated neutron stars exhibiting extreme variability as magnetars as well as pulsar-wind nebulae. Although most of them can show emission up to MeV and/or GeV energies, many have not yet been detected in the TeV domain by Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of detecting new Galactic transients with the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) and the prospects for studying them with Target of Opportunity observations. We show that CTAO will likely detect new sources in the TeV regime, such as the massive microquasars in the Cygnus region, low-mass X-ray binaries with low-viewing angle, flaring emission from the Crab pulsar-wind nebula or other novae explosions, among others. Since some of these sources could also exhibit emission at larger time-scales, we additionally test their detectability at longer exposures. We finally discuss the multiwavelength synergies with other instruments and large astronomical facilities.

The measurement of quality is a key feature in any quality assurance (QA) program, and the appropriate way to measure quality is by using epidemiological methods. Moreover, in the field of hospital hygiene, epidemiological surveillance has proven to have a powerful preventive impact by itself. Surveillance has been defined as the routine collection of data utilizing a systematic method and standard definitions with the aim of giving feedback in the form of tables, charts, and summary statements.6 The establishment of clear definitions and the collection of accurate data are essential prerequisites. The merits of a surveillance system, as well as its credibility when its results are used for the improvement of the quality delivered by individual caregivers or institutions, not only depend on the quality of the data, but also largely on the system's ability to do justice to the wide variability in the intrinsic and extraneous risk status of the exposed populations. Whenever comparisons are made, be it with one's own performance in previous periods or with other colleagues or external standards, the minimum requirement is that proper adjustment or at least stratification be performed by the principal risk factors. As a consequence, in many instances it is insufficient to collect data on the complications specifically addressed by the quality program, but also on a series of relevant risk factors. Likewise, these data are often not only to be collected for the cases with the adverse outcome, but also for the rest of the denominator population that is exposed to the risk, unless other sources exist from whence these data can be obtained. These requirements certainly put a burden on any surveillance activity for quality assurance and, as such, for the prevention of nosocomial infections.

Spindle motor (three-phase asynchronous AC motor) is an important part of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Printed Circuit Board (PCB) milling machine, which plays role to engrave the copper layer based on the PCB pattern design. To perform the engraving processes, it is necessary to adjust the spindle motor speed in accordance with the PCB material used. This paper presents the results of implementing a three-phase spindle-motor speed controller based on Field programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The control method used is fixed Voltage/Frequency (V/F) with Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) technique, so that the maximum torque of the motor can be maintained and the harmonic signals can be minimized. This sub-module consists of two main components, namely FPGA and three-phase inverter, which consists of opto-isolation circuit, logic inverter, MOSFET driver, and three-phase full-bridge inverter circuit. The FPGA unit generates digital SPWM signal as input to the inverter to convert DC voltage into three-phase AC voltage according to the given input frequency. Results show that the sub-module can control the speed in the range of 14000-28000 RPM with the corresponding frequency range of 250-500 Hz. The Sub-module also has constant V/F and Speed/Frequency (ω/F) characteristics. In addition, a ramp speed profile used during acceleration and deceleration has also been successfully implemented to address the problem of low starting torque due to the increase of supply frequency.

The microstructure of a material intimately affects the performance of a device made from this material. The microstructure, in turn, is affected by the processing pathway used to fabricate the device. This forms the process–structure–property triangle that is central to material science. There has been increasing interest to comprehensively understand and subsequently exploit process–structure–property (PSP) relationships to design processing pathways that result in tailored microstructures exhibiting optimal properties. However, unraveling process–structure–property relationships usually requires systematic and tedious combinatorial search of process and system variables to identify the microstructures that are produced. This is further complicated by the necessity to interrogate the properties of the huge set of corresponding microstructures. Motivated by this challenge, we focus on developing a generic methodology to establish and explore PSP pathways. We leverage recent advances in high performance computing (HPC) and high throughput computing (HTC) with the premise that a domain expert should be able to focus on domain specific PSP problems while the highly specialized HPC/HTC knowledge needed to approach such problems should be hidden from the domain expert. Our hypothesis is that PSP exploration can be naturally formulated in terms of a standard paradigm in cloud computing, namely the MapReduce programming model. We show how reformulating PSP exploration into a MapReduce workflow enables us to take advantage of advances in cloud computing while requiring minimal specialized knowledge of HPC. We illustrate this generic approach by exploring PSP relationships relevant to organic photovoltaics. We focus on identifying microstructural traits that correlate with specific properties of the photovoltaic process: exciton generation, exciton dissociation and charge generation. Context. The recurrent nova RS Ophiuchi (RS Oph) underwent a thermonuclear eruption in August 2021. In this event, RS Oph was detected by the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.), the Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC), and the first Large-Sized Telescope (LST-1) of the future Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) at very-high gamma-ray energies above 100 GeV. This means that novae are a new class of very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray emitters. Aims. We report the analysis of the RS Oph observations with LST-1. We constrain the particle population that causes the observed emission in hadronic and leptonic scenarios. Additionally, we study the prospects of detecting further novae using LST-1 and the upcoming LST array of CTAO-North. Methods. We conducted target-of-opportunity observations with LST-1 from the first day of this nova event. The data were analysed in the framework of cta-lstchain and Gammapy, the official CTAO-LST reconstruction and analysis packages. One-zone hadronic and leptonic models were considered to model the gamma-ray emission of RS Oph using the spectral information from Fermi-LAT and LST-1, together with public data from the MAGIC and H.E.S.S. telescopes. Results. RS Oph was detected at 6.6σ with LST-1 in the first 6.35 hours of observations following the eruption. The hadronic scenario is preferred over the leptonic scenario considering a proton energy spectrum with a power-law model with an exponential cutoff whose position increases from (0.26 ± 0.08) TeV on day 1 up to (1.6 ± 0.6) TeV on day 4 after the eruption. The deep sensitivity and low energy threshold of the LST-1/LST array will allow us to detect faint novae and increase their discovery rate. © 2025, CC BY.

DOMMINO 2.0: Integrating structurally resolved protein-, RNA-, and DNA-mediated Macromolecular interactions

Macromolecular interactions are formed between proteins, DNA and RNA molecules. Being a principle building block in macromolecular assemblies and pathways, the interactions underlie most of cellular functions. Malfunctioning of macromolecular interactions is also linked to a number of diseases. Structural knowledge of the macromolecular interaction allows one to understand the interaction's mechanism, determine its functional implications and characterize the effects of genetic variations, such as single nucleotide polymorphisms, on the interaction. Unfortunately, until now the interactions mediated by different types of macromolecules, e.g. protein-protein interactions or protein-DNA interactions, are collected into individual and unrelated structural databases. This presents a significant obstacle in the analysis of macromolecular interactions. For instance, the homogeneous structural interaction databases prevent scientists from studying structural interactions of different types but occurring in the same macromolecular complex. Here, we introduce DOMMINO 2.0, a structural Database Of Macro-Molecular INteractiOns. Compared to DOMMINO 1.0, a comprehensive database on protein-protein interactions, DOMMINO 2.0 includes the interactions between all three basic types of macromolecules extracted from PDB files. DOMMINO 2.0 is automatically updated on a weekly basis. It currently includes ∼1 040 000 interactions between two polypeptide subunits (e.g. domains, peptides, termini and interdomain linkers), ∼43 000 RNA-mediated interactions, and ∼12 000 DNA-mediated interactions. All protein structures in the database are annotated using SCOP and SUPERFAMILY family annotation. As a result, protein-mediated interactions involving protein domains, interdomain linkers, C- and N-termini, and peptides are identified.
