We successfully fabricated silicon-on-insulator (SOI) photonic crystal (PhC) slabs in which electromagnetic topological band gaps and edge modes were materialized for symmetric transverse-electric-like modes. Because the structure of our specimens can be regarded as symmetric about the horizontal middle plane of the PhC slab, their symmetric and antisymmetric eigenmodes were rigorously separated, so we could achieve genuine photonic band gaps for the former. We fabricated those specimens by electron beam lithography of the top Si layer of SOI wafers and successive plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition of a SiO2 capping layer. We confirmed the complete common band gap of topologically trivial and nontrivial PhCs and the topological edge modes on the boundary between them by angle-resolved reflection spectroscopy in the mid-infrared range. This is an observation of the common band gap and edge modes that materialized in symmetric PhC slabs without a membrane structure, that is, without the etching of a sacrificial layer under the PhC to increase the refractive-index contrast and the width of the common band gap.

This study aims to understand the process of adoption of electric jeepneys by transport cooperatives in the Philippines. Transport cooperatives are organizations that typically own, operate and manage fleets of fuel-based traditional jeepneys. These jeepneys are polluting and constitute one of the biggest sources of carbon emissions. For a transition to low-carbon mobility to happen, transport cooperatives need to replace their traditional jeepneys with electric jeepneys. This is, however, challenging to achieve. Using mixed methods (i.e., qualitative interview with 12 transport cooperatives and survey with 77 transport cooperatives), this research identifies the barriers and drivers of e-jeepney adoption and proposes a stage-based model of psychological decision-making consisting of four stages. Despite the limited data sample size, our findings demonstrate the utility of stage-based models and suggest three significant predictors of stage membership and progression. These are (1) belief in the ability to fully comply with the mandatory share of at least five percent (5%) of e-jeepneys in the cooperative’s fleet; (2) feasibility of e-jeepney running on all routes; and (3) proof that it is much cheaper to maintain, run and operate electric jeepney compared to fuel-based jeepney.

Adsorption of proteins to nanoparticles(NPs),a complex process that results in a protein corona,is controlled by NP surface properties that define NP interactions in *** to control adsorbed protein quantity through surface modification have led to improvements in circulation time or ***,current approaches have yet to be identified to control adsorbed protein identities within the ***,we report the development and characterization of diverse zwitterionic peptides(ZIPs)for NP anti-fouling surface functionalization with specific and controllable affinity for protein adsorption profiles defined by ZIP *** serum exposure of ZIP-conjugated NPs and proteomics analysis of the resulting corona,we determined that protein adsorption profiles depend not on the exact composition of the ZIPs but on the sequence and order of charges along the sequence(charge motif).These findings pave the way for developing tunable ZIPs to orchestrate specific ZIP-NP protein adsorption profiles as a function of ZIP charge motif to better control cell and tissue specificity and pharmacokinetics and provide new tools for investigating relationships between protein corona and biological ***,overall ZIP diversity enabled by the diversity of amino acids may ameliorate adaptive immune responses.
