作者: BALES, SML Susan Bales is the science advisor to the chief of naval operations and the assistant director for science and technology of the CNO Executive Panel. She is on assignment from the Office of Naval Research where she holds the position of assistant director for program support and special programs. Previously she was head of the Ocean Environment Group at David Taylor Research Center. Among her fields of technical expertise are radio-electronic battle management/space and electronic combat naval oceanography coastal dynamics ship engineering hydrodynamics technology wargaming climatology and the Arctic. Since joining the CNO's staff in 1987 Ms. Bales has participated in a number of strategic long-range planning efforts including the 1990 Defense Science Board Summer Study. She has been active in international exchange agreements coordinating the 1987 Labrador Extreme Waves Experiment (LEWEX) and chairing a NATO Research Study Group. She has lectured at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Webb Institute of Naval Architecture the NATO ASW SACLANT Centre the Admiralty Marine Technology Establishment and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute. Active in a number of professional societies Ms. Bales has served as vice president of the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) and chaired the Naval Engineers Journal Committee. Her research has been published in more than 50 papers articles and reports both here and abroad. She has received the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Medal was named the 1988 National Capital Senior Engineer of the Year by the D.C. Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies and was elected to membership in the COSMOS Club in 1989. She was married to the late Nathan K. Bales and resides in Myersville Md.

His career in naval engineering started with various consulting firms prior to his joining the Bureau of Ships in 1963. He is currently the director of the Procurement Appraisal and Logistics Division in the Naval Sea Systems Command's Aircraft Carrier Program Office (PMS 312). George S. Prentice: obtained his B.S. degree in naval architecture from the University of Michigan in 1964. He worked for one and one-half years at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock before moving to the Naval Sea Systems Command. He is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and has written several papers for various organizations and publications. Ronald B. Selvidge: obtained his B.S.M.E. from the University of New Orleans in 1985 at which time he obtained his EIT status. He is an assistant engineering project manager for the Deep Submergence and Ocean Engineering Program Office (PMS 395) of the Naval Sea Systems Command. Professional memberships include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Association of Scientists and Engineers of the Naval Sea Systems Command where he holds the chairmanship of the Legislative Committee.

Jackson USN (Ret.) is a graduate of the University of Michigan in naval architecture and marine engineering and completed the General Electric Company's 3-year advanced engineering course in nuclear engineering. He has been an independent consulting engineer and participated in projects involving deep submergence waste disposal water purification and submarine design both commercial and government. Cdr. William D. Needham USN is currently assigned as the repair officer of USS Hunley (AS-31) in Norfolk Virginia. He received a regular commission through NROTC at Duke University where he graduated magna cum laude in mechanical engineering. Selected for the Nuclear Power Program he served as a division officer on the USS Grayling (SSN-646) as the production training assistant at the MARE Prototype Reactor in New York and as blue crew engineer of the USS Nathan Hale (SSBN-623) where he completed the requirements to be designated qualified for command of submarines. Following line transfer to the EDO community in 1981 he completed a tour as nuclear repair officer (Code 310) at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and earned master of science in materials science and ocean engineer's degrees at MIT. His awards include the Meritorius Service Medal Navy Commendation Medal Navy Achievement Medal Spear Foundation Award and the Vice Admiral C.R. Bryan Award. Cdr. Needham also holds a master of arts degree in business management from Central Michigan University. Capt. Jackson was technical director of Scorpion Search Phase II. The on-site investigation included descending over 12 000 feet to the bottom of the ocean. He was also supervisor of one of the Navy's largest peacetime shipbuilding and repair programs. Mr. Fung graduated from National Cheng Kung University in 1976 and Stevens Institute of Technology in 1977 from which he received his B.S. degree in naval architecture and marine engineering and M.S. degree in ocean engineering respectively. He started his career with M. Rosenblatt and Son in 1979 and became a senior naval architect with the Hull Form & Hydrodynamics Department in Designers and Planners in 1981. For the past ten years Mr. Fung has performed a variety of tasks in the area of feasibility study hydrodynamic design including advanced marine vehicles bulbous bows and hull form design for surface combatant and non-combatant ships. Currently he is a project naval architect for the T-AO twin skeg integrated hull design and the AE-36 Energy Enhancement Program. Mr. Fung is a member of ASE ASNE and SNAME. He received the John C. Niedermair A ward in 1984 and 1986 for the best paper presented at the ASE annual technical symposiums.

He received his B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from ChengKung University in Taiwan China and his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Rochester in 1969. Prior to joining the Coast Guard in 1982 Mr. Tsai worked at General Dynamics Litton Ship Systems and the David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center in the area of ship dynamics moored and towed ocean systems evaluation and development. He is a member of ASME and ASNE. Eugene C. Haciski:received his B.S. degree in mechanics from the Warsaw University of Technology in 1946 and his M.S. degree in naval architecture from the Polytechnical University of Gdansk Poland in 1950. Prior to joining the U.S. Coast Guard in 1967 he served as a project engineer in the Gdansk Ship Design Center and in the Shipyard Maua in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. After serving 7 years in the U.S. Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay Maryland as a supervisory naval architect and 3 years in the Merchant Marine Technical Division USCG he was assigned in 1976 to his current position of chief Hull Section Naval Engineering Division USCG Headquarters. LCDR. Joseph Kucinski:is currently assigned to the Coast Guard Yard as chief quality assurance. He has served in the Yard as ship superintendent and ship superintendent coordinator. Prior to his assignment at the Yard he served as engineer officer aboard USCGC Courageous. He has also served on USCGC Boutwell and as the marine safety officer Duluth Minn. He is a 1973 graduate of Officer Candidate School. LCdr. Kucinski has prior enlisted service in the Navy's nuclear power program.

Baskerville USNis presently assigned to Naval Sea Systems Command (NA VSEA) as the Ship Design Manager for the DDG 51 the Navy's next generation surface combatant. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1969 he is a qualified Surface Warfare Officer and designated Engineering Duty Officer (ED). He received his M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and his professional degree of Ocean Engineer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and holds a patent right on an Electronic Control and Response System. His naval assignments include tours in USSRamsey (FFG-2) Aide and Flag Lieutenant to the Commander Naval Electronic Systems Command and Ship Superintendent Surface Type Desk Officer and Assistant Design Superintendent at NA VSHIPYD Pearl Harbor. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for distinguished performance at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. As an author he has contributed articles to the ASNEJournaland given presentations at local sections on ship design the use of innovative technology in ship repair and maintenance and the costs and risks associated with engineering progress. Commander Baskerville is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Virginia an adjunct professor teaching marine engineering at Virginia Tech. and in addition to ASNE which he joined in 1975 is a member of SNAME Tau Beta Pi Sigma Xi ASME and the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Dr. Earl R. Quandt:received his degree of Chemical Engineer from the University of Cincinnati in 1956 and his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961. Nappi:graduated from City College of New York in 1954 with a B.S. degree in civil engineering and received his M.S. in civil engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1959. He began his professional career in 1954 at the New York Naval Shipyard as a naval architect (structures) performing detail structural design and fabrication studies for CVAs LPDs DDs and CGs and eventually became a supervisory naval architect (structures). From 1965 to 1973 he was a member of the staff of the Computer-Aided Design Division at the David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center (DTNSRDC). As such he was involved in the development of the computer structural design tool the SSDP (in association with Frank M. Lev) and automated detail design programs (CASDOS). His current position is Senior Naval Architect Consultant in the structural integrity group of the Ship Structures Division Structures Department DTNSRDC. Mr. Nappi is the author and co-author of numerous technical papers and reports covering a wide spectrum of topics such as automated structural design process design for producibility and survivability material weight and cost trade-off studies and structural weight determination for high performance ships (i.e. SES SWATH HYSWAS). He has lectured on the subjects of design for survivability and ship structures at the Naval Post Graduate School and MIT. He is a member of ASNE ASCE U.S. Naval Institute Sigma Xi and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of New York. Mr. Nappi was a member of the NAVSEA working commitee for the computer supported design planning effort and is currently a member of the DTNSRDC ASSET Advisory Committee. Ronald W. Walz:graduated in 1974 from Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. degree in civil engineering. 作者: SIMS, PJ EDWARDS, JR DICKEY, RL SHULL, HS Philip J. Sims:graduated from Webb Institute in 1971 and went to work for the Advance Design Branch of the Naval Ship Engineering Center. He was part of the FFG-7 design team in 1972. The 1973–75 years were spent developing automated early-stage aircraft carrier design procedures and performing carrier design trade-off work in support of the CVV design. He returned to school in 1976 for a masters at M.I. T. The 1977–80 period was spent updating the Navy's destroyer-cruiser early-stage design procedures and performing studies for the CGN-42 reserve FFX and DDX (later DDG 51) projects. Also during this period he was team leader on concept formulation (CONFORM) studies of new ships such as a heavy combatant and a low detectability ship. From 1981 to early 1983 Mr. Sims was Design Integration Manager for the BB-62 and Ship Design Manager for the BB-61 and CA-134. He is presently principal naval architect for the FFX study and also works on the NA TO frigate effort. James F. Edwards Sr:.is the Technical Director Ship Analytics Inc. Washington D.C. Operations and was the Ship Design Manager for the battleship USSNew Jerseyprior to his departure from NAVSEA in August 1983. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1954 and served on active duty from 1957 to 1960. From 1961 to 1963 he worked for McLaughlin Research Corporation as a section head in the drafting department. From 1963 to 1966 he worked for the Vitro Corporation of America in the Terrier (surface missile systems) Department. In 1966 he participated in the contract design of the first shipboard integrated digital ASW Command and Control system while working for the Stanwick Corporation.
