Massive plywood panels and manufacturers: a comprehensive systematic literature review and case study

Massive timber is a category of heavy green engineered products, manufactured from glued or glued-free processes, to be used in more predictable structural performance in industrialized walls, floors and frames. Massive plywood panel emerges as a novelty for mass timber construction and, therefore, little information is scientifically available. Aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal 9: ‘Industry, innovation and infrastructures’, this study aims to verify this literature gap and raise topics regarding massive plywood panels using a structured systematic review literature. From bibliometric analysis, 12 journal papers, 10 conference papers and an editorial were prospected using Scopus and Web of Science databases. A predominance of studies from English language nations was confirmed. Seismic and monotonic performance of massive plywood are frequent topics in these investigations, whose results have indicated a promising scenario for construction. As no study on industry is available, a case study on massive plywood was sequentially developed to discuss features of commercial panels and perspectives of respective global industry. The North American Freres Engineered Wood and Finnish Metsä Wood are the only active manufacturers, and their massive plywood panels have been manufactured from modern production technologies and environmentally certified practices to be applied in low- and high-rise industrialized buildings.

This article intends to make an analysis about the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the knowledge management (KM). Faced with the dualism mind and body how we be able to see it AI? It doesn't intent to create identical copy of human being, but try to find the better form to represent all the knowledge contained in our minds. The society of the information lives a great paradox, at the same time that we have access to an innumerable amount of information, the capacity and the forms of its processing are very limited. In this context, institutions and centers of research devote themselves to the finding of ways to use to advantage the available data consistently. The interaction of the knowledge management with Artificial Intelligence makes possible the development of filtering tools and pre-analysis of the information that appear as a reply to the expectations to extract resulted optimized of databases and open and not-structuralized source, as the Internet.

Web accessibility has been the subject of much discussion regarding the need to make Web content accessible to all people, regardless of their abilities or disabilities. While some testing techniques require human intervention, accessibility can also be evaluated by automated tools. Automated evaluation tools are software programs that examine the code of Web pages to determine if they conform to a set of accessibility guidelines that are often based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Version 2.0 (WCAG 2.0), developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). In this context, the purpose of this study is to analyze an automated software program for evaluating authenticated environments and verify the usability of this tool, since automated systems require precision and reliability in terms of both results and use in any type of environment. With this in mind, this paper aimed at evaluating the ASES software by means of a heuristic evaluation carried out by three experts. The analysis revealed major accessibility problems, as well as improper functioning of available tools and inconsistency of results. Furthermore, ASES was found to have problems of efficiency, interaction, validity, and reliability in the results presented. Considering that this is an open-source accessibility testing tool that can be found on a government web site, the correction or improvement of the system's deficiencies identified in this study is highly recommended, as there is a lack of software available to evaluate authenticated environments. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

Hybrid Neural Systems that integrate symbolic algorithms or fuzzysystems to Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are a potential alternativeto the more traditional ANN models. However, in contrast with the ANNmodels, these systems have not been yet fully explored from a practicalviewpoint to show their effectiveness in large scale applications. Thispaper presents an extensive comparative analysis of the neuro-fuzzymodels FWD (Feature-Weighted Detector) and FuNN (Fuzzy Neural Network),together with their rule extraction techniques in a large-scale *** aspects are considered: generalization performance of the models,and the interpretation and explanation qualities of the extractedknowledge. The experiments are conducted in the context of a large scalecredit risk assessment application in a real-world operation of aBrazilian financial institution. In this paper we proposed an approach based on genetic algorithm (GA) and digital image processing (DIP) to deal with the problem of cutting identical items (pieces) with irregular shapes in metal plates (objects). The goal is to maximize the number of items to be cut in the available area of the object. In this approach both object and the items are depicted as color images. The GA is responsible for generating the solutions, each one represented by a vector containing a set of translations and angles that indicate the positions and orientations for cutting the pieces. The evaluation of each solution generated by GA is performed by an image analysis algorithm that basically detects overlapping among the items placed on the object. Preliminary experiments indicate that the use of GA combined with DIP is a good alternative for solving the investigated problem. © 2015 ACM.

This paper intends to discuss the concepts of knowledge, information and data and their use on a Competitive Intelligence process. An information concept is presented and the information science influences on the way that it has been used, as so data gathering as internal expert service process support. A relationship between the Competitive Intelligence process approach and the use of the established resources for information process using electronic media is displayed. There is a difference among data, information and knowledge taking the reader up to the Competitive Intelligence and knowledge management concepts found at current literature over this subject. A user connection to knowledge is described in order to make a distinction between the knowledge universe and the user universe, taking the recorded knowledge as a “bridge” connecting both universes. The knowledge universe access way is taken by the language that is in use, while at user universe is represented by the retrieval system that is adopted. A discussion over the frontiers and aspects of each universe is held, as well as the condition for inter-relationship, resulting in an idealistic representation for the user and knowledge relationship. Finally, this paper presents a few points that illustrate the Information Science contributions for the knowledge management process.

The goal of this paper is to show a study to evaluate the possibility of using ontologies to support maintenance procedures in IT equipment in a small power company. The aim is to improve the degree of reliability in detection of potential failures and defects in maintenance processes of information technology critical assets, trying to obtain less downtime of services that they provide. The methodological procedures used in this study were literature review, to present the modeling concepts of knowledge focused on ontologies creation and state of the art in building of field procedures describing the steps from initial drafting of ontology finishing with their tests. The results demonstrate that it is viable to utilize this technique, where the network equipment that keeps critical services require high level of availability on meeting the needs of the corporation.

Nowadays, there is a growing interest in telemedicine in Brazil, because the country is the fifth largest country in the world and there is a huge gap between the population size and the number of available doctors. Institutions and the government are considering solutions for the integration and availability of data produced by several different systems. In this paper we present a contribution that is characterized by an asynchronous replication strategy between distributed medical databases. The contribution, named PGR, is an enhancement to the postgreSQL database software that introduces lightweight asynchronous operations. In addition, we have implemented a multi-master engine with partial replication and hybrid fragmentation in order to allow interoperability between different telemedicine systems. Our early results indicate that the model and its implementation have reached a successful level in terms of performance and interoperability.
