Personal rapid transit capacity evaluation for inner-city:A detailed micro-simulation study

This paper describes a detailed, discrete-event, micro-simulation study of an inner-city personal rapid transit (PRT) system, for the purpose of evaluating the capacity of such a system and the effect of various parameters on this capacity. While former studies considered various parameters, most considered only a partial set of the overall set of parameters considered by this paper. In many cases these parameters were treated differently from the model proposed here, which thus provides valuable insights for future research. This evaluation is crucial for justifying construction of such a system, and for judging its feasibility and may provide an initial step towards creating a PRT manual, similar to the Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Manual (TCQSM). The complex operation and structure of the problem suggests micro-simulation as a viable tool for this study. This necessitates tailoring a solution using general simulation software rather than a transportation-oriented tool. The simulation evaluated the capacity under three major scenarios related to passenger arrival characteristics. The results show that the capacity is not sensitive to pod velocity, nor to acceleration/deceleration rates, but is sensitive to the number of pods and suggests an optimal pod quantity.

Water scarcity has led to the search for sustainable methods of wastewater management in recent years. This article presents a comprehensive analysis of wastewater management through a systematic literature review, examining thirty articles published between 2012 and 2022. The main contribution lies in the in-depth analysis conducted on the management wastewater supply chain, focusing on the dimensions of sustainability studied, how they are addressed in models, the types of decisions made, and the methodologies employed. This provides insight into how sustainability has been approached in wastewater management while highlighting areas for improvement and future research.A positive trend is observed in related research, indicating a growing interest in the topic of sustainable management of wastewater supply chains up to the year 2020. To assess sustainability, optimization, and case studies were predominantly utilized, with evolutionary algorithms commonly employed in optimizations, complemented by uncertainty *** suggestions for future research, it is recommended to include political and technological aspects in the analysis of sustainability. Additionally, integrating methodologies with a greater capacity to incorporate multiple objective functions, along with a case study to illustrate their applicability, would be valuable. Addressing these outstanding issues could contribute to a better understanding of sustainable wastewater management and provide more effective solutions. © 2023 IEEE.

The problems and challenges for the government in seeing disease growth trend patterns are very important. This research focuses on infectious diseases, namely Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), while non-communicable illnesses focus on epilepsy and thalassemia in 2023-2024. The priority in this research is that the Health Service can take action to prevent disease distribution patterns that are seen based on the results of identifying patterns and trends using the fuzzy c-means model and mapping for each region. The research methodology includes collecting patient data, inputted by recorded medical data consisting of sub-district data and the number of incidents. The research results of the Fuzzy C-means model in analyzing infectious disease trend patterns show 3 clusters. The first cluster of vulnerable areas has four sub-districts: Sawang, Syamtalira Bayu, Dewantara and Muara Batu. Then, the second cluster still consists of 18 sub-districts. Finally, the safe cluster consists of 8 sub-districts. Meanwhile, the results of the ward model research showed that there were 2 clusters, namely vulnerable consisting of 19 sub-districts and safe eight sub-districts, which were then included in the spatial map. Meanwhile, analysis of non-communicable disease patterns using fuzzy c-means, namely thalassemia and epilepsy in cluster C1 (High) in 4 and 7 sub-districts, medium cluster in 9 and 7, and low cluster in 14 and 16 sub-districts. Therefore, this research can provide an important picture for the Health Service in analyzing trends in cluster patterns of growth of infectious and non-communicable diseases in children. © 2023 IEEE.

Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) are commonly used in data-driven approaches to estimate the Remaining Useful Lifetime (RUL) of power electronic devices. RNNs are preferred because their intrinsic feedback mechanisms are better suited to model time-series data. However, the impact of RNN complexity on estimation accuracy is rarely discussed in the literature. This issue is important because choosing a lower-complexity model that delivers the same or similar performance as a higher-complexity model can increase implementation efficiency. In the paper, we use three RNN models, namely, the vanilla version, LSTM (Long Short Term Memory) and GRU (Gated Recurrent Unit) to conduct RUL estimation for power electronic devices. We use two accelerated aging datasets, one dataset targeting the package failure of MOSFETs, and the other dataset targeting package failure of power diodes. Our study shows that a lower-complexity RNN does not necessarily deliver a lower performance. Similarly, a higher-complexity model does not assure a higher performance. As such, our work highlights the importance of selecting a proper neural network for RUL estimation not biased towards complex models. This is especially useful and important for implementing such RUL estimation techniques in embedded resource-constrained and speed-limited computins platforms. © 2024 IEEE.

In the modern era, an increasing number of diseases are emerging because of human lifestyle choices and bacterial transmission. Gastritis, characterized by inflammation in the stomach lining leading to frequent abdominal pain, is one such ailment. Recognizing the significance of addressing these health issues, there is a need for an expert system application specifically designed for diagnosing gastritis. The primary objective is to disseminate information to the public regarding the early symptoms of gastritis, promoting awareness from a young age. The research method used is the web-based Expert System Development Life Cycle (ESDLC). The diagnostic process employs the Certainty Factor (CF) method to ensure accurate results. By utilizing symptom CF values chosen by the user, the Certainty Factor approach facilitates a diagnosis based on calculations established by medical specialists. The research culminates in the development of an expert system application capable of accurately diagnosing the disease Android based. The accuracy rates for the first, second, and third test cases are reported as 98.848%, 99.8464%, and 99.99115264%, respectively. System testing, conducted through black-box testing, validates the application's functionality, demonstrating a 100% success rate for each component. © 2023 IEEE.

Diphtheria is an infectious disease that affects the upper respiratory system and throat, arising suddenly and caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae. The symptoms of diphtheria such as fever, swollen neck and slimy nose are often interpreted as influenza or laryngitis. Diphtheria is a contagious and deadly disease that requires specialized and rapid treatment and care. In today's technological era, it can be overcome with a system that can diagnose diphtheria like a doctor's diagnosis ability commonly called an expert system. This study describes the application of an expert system to diagnose diphtheria disease. The research method used is the web-based Expert System Development Life Cycle (ESDLC). The method used to process input values is Forward Chaining. Fuzzy Tsukamoto to calculate the input value from the user. The research has been tested with Blackbox testing showing the results that the expert system works well and accuracy testing with 92% results. The results show effectiveness with a satisfactory level of accuracy in detecting diphtheria disease. This research contributes to the development of expert systems in the health sector with a focus on diagnosing diphtheria disease using a fuzzy logic approach. © 2023 IEEE.

Assessment of the relevance of features associated with corn crop yield prediction in Colombia, a country in the Neotropical zone

Obtaining highly accurate predictive models to precisely estimate corn crop yields is essential for making informed decisions in a sustainable agriculture environment. There are various approaches to achieve this goal, including models based on Fuzzy Logic, Association Rules, and Machine Learning. However, some of these models have limitations in terms of the accuracy of their predictions, attributable to the high complexity and non-linearity in the interactions between factors. While Machine Learning techniques alone can achieve high precision, the inclusion of multiple attributes can reduce it. This study focuses on identifying the most influential factors at the regional level through a comprehensive analysis of the relevance of features associated with corn crop yields in Colombia, a country in the Neotropical zone. To accomplish this, climatological time series and historical yield records are used through a methodology based on CRISP- DM, widely used in the field of data mining, involving a review of related work, data cleaning and transformation, relevance evaluation using the RReliefF algorithm, and verification of the performance of the most influential factors through prediction algorithms. The results obtained demonstrate that solar radiation, precipitation, vapor pressure, and maximum and minimum temperatures exert the greatest influence on corn crop yield prediction, with a relevance factor of 0.033, 0.032, 0.026, 0.022, and 0.021, respectively. In the validation of the performance of the selected factors, two predictive models were implemented. The first, based on Artificial Neural Networks, yielded a RMSE of 0.1216 with the subset of variables and 0.1403 with all available variables. In the second, Linear Regression was applied, resulting in an RMSE of 0.1417 with the subset of variables and 0.1424 with all available variables. Gastroenteritis is a common gastrointestinal disorder with varying degrees of severity, including cases without dehydration, mild dehydration, moderate dehydration, and severe dehydration. This research focuses on the development of a mobile-based expert system for detecting gastroenteritis, capable of distinguishing between these different dehydration levels. The methodology employed integrates the Extreme Structure Development Life Cycle (ESDLC) and the Best First Search algorithm. The expert system is designed to provide swift and accurate responses to users inputting symptoms, categorizing gastroenteritis cases based on the severity of dehydration. The application of ESDLC ensures a structured and organized development process, while the Best First Search method enhances the efficiency of the diagnostic process, facilitating timely and precise recommendations. Accessible through mobile platforms, the system allows users to input symptoms conveniently and receive rapid recommendations. Rigorous testing and evaluation affirm the system's high accuracy in discerning dehydration levels in gastroenteritis patients. In conclusion, the developed mobile-based expert system exhibits promising potential for advancing diagnostic services, particularly in the categorization of dehydration levels in gastroenteritis cases. The successful implementation of ESDLC and Best First Search paves the way for similar solutions in other healthcare domains, contributing positively to early and accurate disease management efforts. This innovation marks a significant stride towards improving healthcare technology for enhanced decision support in gastroenteritis diagnosis. © 2023 IEEE.

In severe accidents at nuclear power plants such as heat transfer tube failure accidents at pressurized water reactors (PWRs) and venting accidents from wet wells at boiling water reactors (BWRs), aerosols containing large amounts of fission products (FP) are generated. In order to avoid these accidents especially like the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, pool scrubbing, which steam containing aerosols is injected into a pool water of the reactor vessel and aerosols are captured in the water to reduce the amount of aerosol released to the atmosphere, is proposed. The evaluation of FP release is important for the analysis of the effects of countermeasures against SA at nuclear power plants, and a SA code including higher reliability and precise physical models is strongly required because the migration behavior of FP is a complex flow phenomenon. The MELCOR code, which is one of the SA codes, is designed to analyze pool scrubbing and defines two models: 1) a bubble swarm model that focuses on the formation, breakup, and rise of bubbles caused by gas phase entering a pool, and 2) a single-bubble model that focuses on the movement of aerosol particles inside each bubble. In the bubble swarm model, the entire DF is evaluated by integrating the DF of a single bubble using single-bubble model. Although it is well known that the existing of contamination on the bubble surface is affected on bubble behavior, the effect of aerosol particle in bubbles on the bubble behavior and deformation is not much discussed in this model. The aim of this study is to elucidate the effect of existence of aerosol particle in bubbles on the bubble deformation and behavior which is related to the transport phenomena of aerosol particle in bubbles.
