Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) impose known physical laws into the learning of deep neural networks, making sure they respect the physics of the process while decreasing the demand of labeled data. For systems represented by Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs), the conventional PINN has a continuous time input variable and outputs the solution of the corresponding ODE. In their original form, PINNs do not allow control inputs, neither can they simulate for variable long-range intervals without serious degradation in their predictions. In this context, this work presents a new framework called Physics-Informed Neural Nets for Control (PINC), which proposes a novel PINN-based architecture that is amenable to control problems and able to simulate for longer-range time horizons that are not fixed beforehand, making it a very flexible framework when compared to traditional PINNs. Furthermore, this long-range time simulation of differential equations is faster than numerical methods since it relies only on signal propagation through the network, making it less computationally costly and, thus, a better alternative for simulation of models in Model Predictive Control. Proton beam therapy is an advanced form of cancer radiotherapy that uses high-energy proton beams to deliver precise and targeted radiation to tumors. This helps to mit-igate unnecessary radiation exposure in healthy tissues. Real-time imaging of prompt gamma rays with Compton cameras has been suggested to improve therapy efficacy. However, the camera's non-zero time resolution leads to incorrect interaction classifications and noisy images that are insufficient for accurately assessing proton delivery in patients. To address the challenges posed by the Compton camera's image quality, machine learning techniques are employed to classify and refine the generated data. These machine-learning techniques include recurrent and feedforward neural networks. A PyTorch model was designed to improve the data captured by the Compton camera. This decision was driven by PyTorch's flexibility, powerful capabilities in handling sequential data, and enhanced G PU usage. This accelerates the model's computations on large-scale radiotherapy data. Through hyperparameter tuning, the validation accuracy of our PyTorch model has been improved from an initial 7 % to over 60 %. Moreover, the PyTorch Distributed Data Parallelism strategy was used to train the RNN models on multiple G PU s, which significantly reduced the training time with a minor impact on model accuracy.

Solids when rapidly and elastically stressed change temperature, the effect proposed by Lord Kelvin is adiabatic thermo-elastic cooling or heating depending on the sign of the stress. A fast sensitive IR camera has measured temperature both decreasing and increasing. Temperature measurements made from the reversible, elastic part of the stress-strain curve during fast uniaxial tensile loading have been investigated. The isentropic temperature cooling from the loading curve is recovered by heating after the specimen fractures when the load is released. These measurements establish for the first time isentropic thermal recovery in two engineering alloys. The materials tested are an AISI 4340 steel and an aluminum 2024 alloy. Measurements of the isentropic thermo-elastic stress cooling are -0.61 K/GPa for steel and -1.7 K/GPa for aluminum alloy. The isentropic thermo-elastic stress heating is -1.16 K/GPa for steel and -1.6 K/GPa for aluminum alloy. These values are compared to Lord Kelvin’s theoretical thermodynamic prediction. Comparisons are also to equations of state tables. The experimental values are slightly below theoretical predictions. The isentropic, elastic part of the temperature is fully recoverable even after extensive plastic deformation upon fracture. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

FaNDOM: Fast Nested Distance-Based Seeding of Optical Maps

Optical mapping provides single-molecule readouts of the locations of fluorescently labeled sequence motifs on long fragments of DNA, resolved to nucleotide-level coordinates. With the advent of microfluidic technologies for manipulating large numbers of individual molecules, and advances in the imaging of fluorescent DNA tags, it is possible to inexpensively generate high coverage and long OM molecules (>150Kbp). In addition to its use in scaffolding for de novo assembly, optical map data can also be mapped to a reference for identifying genetic structural variants implicated in Mendelian diseases and cancer. To address the computational challenge, we introduce FaNDOM (Fast Nested Distance seeding of Optical Maps) - an optical map alignment tool which greatly reduces the search space of the alignment process. On 4 benchmark human data-sets, FaNDOM was significantly (4-14X) faster than competing tools while maintaining comparable sensitivity and specificity. We used FaNDOM to map variants in 3 cancer cell-lines and identified many structural variations, including deletion of tumor-suppressor genes, duplications, gene fusions and gene-disrupting rearrangements. Speaker-Specific Articulatory Feature Extraction Based on Knowledge Distillation for Speaker Recognition

This paper proposes a novel speaker-specific articulatory feature (AF) extraction model based on knowledge distillation (KD) for speaker recognition. First, an AF extractor is trained as a teacher model for extracting the AF profiles of the input speaker dataset. Next, a KD-based speaker embedding extraction method is proposed to distill the speaker-specific information from the AF profiles in the teacher model to a student model based on multi-task learning, in which the lower layers not only capture the speaker characteristics from acoustic features, but also learn the speaker-specific features from the AF profiles for robust speaker representation. Finally, speaker embeddings are extracted from the high-level layer, and the obtained speaker embeddings are further used to train a probabilistic linear discriminant analysis (PLDA) model for speaker recognition. In the experiments, speaker embedding models were trained using the VoxCeleb2 dataset and the AF extractor was trained based on the LibriSpeech dataset, and the performance was evaluated using the VoxCeleb1 dataset. The experiments showed that the proposed KD-based models outperformed the baseline models without KD. Furthermore, feature concatenation of multimodal results can further improve the performance.

IT Governance are one of the needs in managing Enterprise Level IT. This study shows part of the decision domain of IT Governance Help, which are IT Investment and Prioritization. The purpose of this study is to determine feasibility of implementation open source ERP system Odoo project management module that replaces current system based on operational, economic, and technical aspects. The method used are Fit/Gap Analysis and Cost Benefit model using economic impact worksheet. The analysis is done by comparing the requirement with features owned by current system and Odoo ERP system. This research resulted that Odoo ERP System is feasible in the 3 aspects, the operational feasibility Odoo reaching 72% Fit, the economic feasibility with ROI of 84%, and technical feasibility indicating the technical requirement can be fulfilled by leasing AWS server. The conclusion is the open source ERP system Odoo project management module is feasible to be applied in terms of 3 aspects that have been studied, those are operational, economic, and technical. © 2019 IEEE.

The palm oil business employs almost 20 million people, generates USD 21 billion in revenue, and plays a vital role in Indonesia’s social economy. The Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) to Palm Oil Mills (POM) distribution system is one important aspect of fruit quality. Three steps are involved in getting Oil Palm FFB from the plantation to the POM. The first part of the procedure involves cutting FFB from the tree, the second stage involves gathering the fruit at a fruit collection point (FCP), and the third stage involves transporting the fruit to the palm oil mill (POM). As of now, the cost of the FFB transportation is still considerable, accounting for roughly 15% to 20% of the FFB pricing. The use of the Business Intelligence (BI) idea in the oil palm harvesting system is presented in this study as a foundation for creating web-based applications.

Infectious disease threats to individual and public health are numerous, varied and frequently unexpected. Artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies, which are already supporting human decision making in economics, medicine and social science, have the potential to transform the scope and power of infectious disease epidemiology. Here we consider the application to infectious disease modelling of AI systems that combine machine learning, computational statistics, information retrieval and data science. We first outline how recent advances in AI can accelerate breakthroughs in answering key epidemiological questions and we discuss specific AI methods that can be applied to routinely collected infectious disease surveillance data. Second, we elaborate on the social context of AI for infectious disease epidemiology, including issues such as explainability, safety, accountability and ethics. Finally, we summarize some limitations of AI applications in this field and provide recommendations for how infectious disease epidemiology can harness most effectively current and future developments in AI. © Springer Nature Limited 2025.
