The development of competencies in the professional training of an engineer includes: knowledge, skills and attitudes. For the development of skills, laboratory practices with physical equipment, virtual systems and remote systems are alternatives; the practices in the place of work performance through technical visits or pre-professional practices in the factories and maintenance workshops. Dual learning includes the participation of students in theoretical sessions in the center of studies and practical sessions of the installation and maintenance of machines and equipment in factories and workshops. The semidual learning proposal considers 50% of the practical sessions in the laboratories of the study center and 50% in the facilities of the industrial company. The experience of the application in the course of electrical machines is reported, where the application of the Semi-dual learning method in five academic semesters was planned, from 2019 - 1 to 2021 - 1, to date it was applied in the semester 2019 1, with satisfactory results.

Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs) and larger Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) constitute a powerful tool for the modern warfighter and first responder. However, every developing technology must first be tested before being exported to the battlefield or hot spot to assure predictable behaviors. In today's digital age, computers give designers and testers unprecedented ability to quickly and easily test virtual models before physical prototypes are created and field tested. We have utilized emerging Free Open Source Software (FOSS) simulators and workbenches (e.g. FlightGear and AUV Workbench) to improve mission-driven MAV/UAV video and imagery capture and analysis capabilities. In this project, use of FlightGear to analyze flight trajectories and video capture capabilities of different UAVs is presented. FlightGear allows the free implementation of changeable flight dynamic models, weather, autopilot, GPS, and multiplayer to be included in the analysis of simulated flights. Another attractive aspect of FlightGear is its extensible and easy-to-modify implementation. Modifications are accomplished by changing or adding human readable XML files in the FlightGear subdirectories. In this effort, existing aerial vehicle models are incorporated into FlightGear to create flight trajectories and analyze video capture capabilities to determine the necessary toolset for analyzing imagery data to meet the mission needs. The limitations of the existing camera systems as well as effects of various flight parameters on mosaicking and georegistration are presented here. Sample analysis of the effect of aerial vehicle speed on the overlap of frames captured at the typical 30 frames/second frame rate, which provides a base for comparison of flight attributes, are demonstrated together with other parameters that affect mission performance. © 2010 ASCE.

Network interfaces are present in a variety of battery powered computer systems, such as notebooks, ultrabooks, tablets and mobile phones. Considering that the battery life is still a constraint, there are opportunities for power management by reducing the power consumption of idle network interfaces. In this work, a dynamic timeout power policy for network interfaces is presented, incorporating workload estimation and a problem optimization at runtime, thus providing power savings and suitable performance.

OSM: Leveraging model checking for observing dynamic 1 behaviors in aspect-oriented applications

In the intricate domain of software systems verification, dynamically model checking multifaceted system characteristics remains paramount, yet challenging. This research proposes the advanced observe-based statistical model-checking (OSM) framework, devised to craft executable formal models directly from foundational system code. Leveraging model checking predicates, the framework melds seamlessly with aspect-oriented programming paradigms, yielding a potent method for the analytical verification of varied behavioral attributes. Exploiting the transformative capacity of OSM framework, primary system code undergoes a systematic metamorphosis into multifaceted analysis constructs. This not only simplifies the model verification process but also orchestrates feature interactions using an innovative observing join point abstraction mechanism. Within this framework, components encompassing parsing, formal verification, computational analytics, and rigorous validation are intrinsically interwoven. Marrying the principles of model checking with aspect-oriented (AO) modularization, OSM framework stands as a paragon, proficiently scrutinizing and affirming system specifications. This ensures the unyielding performance of electronic health record systems amidst shifting preconditions. OSM framework offers runtime verification of both object-oriented and AO deployments, positioning itself as an indispensable open-source resource, poised to automate the enhancement of system performance and scalability. The purpose of this research aims to show a thesis motivation strategy for systems engineering and electronic engineering undergraduates that allow them to obtain their bachelor's degree and professional title according to the three-stage methodology,, first: know the technology developments of companies and universities from developed countries, second: to select research topics taking into account the global development, companies issues and the community of university environment, third: disseminate the selected topics and conduct research on these issues with students in their courses. As a methodology application, two universities were visited, one in Germany and another in the United States; each professor developed a research topics portfolio related to their research lines, professional interest and specialization. Students are able to start their final thesis research when they are at the fifth or sixth level.

To improve the vocabulary ability is very important in language learning. Thus, if we can learn and remember a word very effectively, then we will be able to master a language more quickly. Therefore, many scholars began to propose related research. Due to the learning mechanism of human brain, sometimes when people learn a new knowledge they may forgot at a short time. In order to make the consideration more complete, after analyzing Hermann Ebbinghaus's forgetting curve experiment, we added two variables, one is the acceptance of each word by the same person, and the other is the ability of different people to remember vocabulary. With the above two parameters, we want to design a system to help user to review the vocabulary which may be forgetting before. The forgetting curve can be personalized, and it is more accurate to calculate the best time for each user to review the vocabulary.

A complete emotional expression typically contains a complex temporal course in a natural conversation. Related research on utterance-level, segment-level and multi-level processing lacks understanding of the underlying relation of emotional speech. In this work, a convolutional neural network (CNN) with audio word-based embedding is proposed for emotion modeling. In this study, vector quantization is first applied to convert the low level features of each speech frame into audio words using k-means algorithm. Word2vec is adopted to convert an input speech utterance into the corresponding audio word vector sequence. Finally, the audio word vector sequences of the training emotional speech data with emotion annotation are used to construct the CNN- based emotion model. The NCKU-ES database, containing seven emotion categories: happiness, boredom, anger, anxiety, sadness, surprise and disgust, was collected and five-fold cross validation was used to evaluate the performance of the proposed CNN-based method for speech emotion recognition. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieved an emotion recognition accuracy of 82.34%, improving by 8.7% compared to the Long Short Term Memory (LSTM)- based method, which faced the challenging issue of long input sequence. Comparing with raw features, the audio word-based embedding achieved an improvement of 3.4% for speech emotion recognition.

This research paper examined the connectedness of STEM faculty to others both within and across academic departments who might be potential resources for diffusion of Learner-centered practices, and the impact of participants' social networks on their Learner-centered beliefs and practices. The research question under investigation was: To what extent is the degree of social connectedness among faculty within and among STEM departments related to the degree of implementation of Learner-centered practices? Participants were recruited from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics departments, and from departments in the College of engineering. The sample began with 21 randomly-selected faculty from each department engaged in the STEM instruction of first and second year engineering students. The second level consisted of the colleagues identified by the first level as people they utilize as resources for improving their instruction. The connectedness of faculty in the network was examined using network analysis, focusing on both number of connections, and depth of connections. Attitude and Observation Protocol measures were used as outcomes. Results show that faculty classified as Learner-Centered had deeper and more extensive social networks. Results are discussed in terms of the need for intra- and inter-departmental faculty professional development experiences that both introduce and encourage faculty to trial new tools and techniques, but that also run for the longterm, supporting collaborative organizations of faculty working together to transform early engineering experiences. © American Society for engineering Education, 2016.

Power policies are widely applied at computer systems such as desktops, notebooks, and smartphones. For example, the timeout policy to turn off the display. A power management policy must be tested by measuring the power consumption of an experimental platform running workloads. Such tests must be fast enough to feedback the development process with valuable information about the power policy performance. In this work, we have presented a methodology for estimating computer systems power consumption for time scaled experiments. Using the proposed methodology, we have reduced the overall time for developing a power management policy.

Revenues and profits from short life cycle products will depend upon careful formulation and execution of production plans in response to demands in the marketplace. This research contributes to the development of the production and inventory build-up strategies for short life cycle products under different demand-supply scenarios. A modified Bass diffusion model is used to characterise the product demand pattern with consideration of demand-sales interaction. We develop cost models based on production costs, inventory carrying costs, backlog costs, and cost of lost sales for a number of different production scenarios. The optimal production rate is obtained by minimising the total cost. We also investigate the benefit of an initial build-up of inventory before the product's sales period starts. © 2013 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
