As bullying rapidly spreads in schools, many parents are becoming increasingly concerned about their children being subjected to bullying by peers, which could negatively impact their physical and mental health. This paper proposes an abusive language detection system that combines Mel-frequency Cepstrum Coefficients (MFCC) speech features with a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Audio files which contain daily abusive phrases in the Minnan dialect are initially preprocesses to eliminate non-speech interference. Subsequently, the MFCC algorithm is applied to extract speech features that closely capture auditory characteristics. The CNN classification model is trained to learn the MFCC features and classify the phrases into their respective categories. Experimental results indicate that the CNN model achieves an average recognition accuracy of 91.9%. Finally, the CNN model was deployed on an embedded platform, where it achieves an average recognition time of 0.54 seconds per phrase and an average recognition accuracy of 86.25%.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have drawn the attention of researchers in the medical imaging field. Many researchers have exploited CNN for breast cancer detection. This study provides an Internet of Things (IoT) friendly implementation of CNN for breast cancer detection. To achieve faster time to Market, Deep-learning Processing Unit (DPU) on Field programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is adopted for the CNN hardware implementation. CNN inference on the proposed system achieves a 1.6x speed-up factor and 91.5% reduction in energy consumption compared to the conventional general-purpose multi-core Central Processing Unit (CPU).

The impact of hot carrier injection (HCI) on the performance of standard and low-VT FinFETs are investigated and benchmarked with each other. For this investigation, these FinFETs were fabricated with various gate lengths (L) from 16 to 36 nm. HCI-induced transconductance degradation in standard devices for gate length variations of 36 nm down to 16 nm was 75%, while it was 35% for low-VT devices. Similarly, the degradation of threshold voltage in standard devices for gate length variations of 36 nm down to 16 nm was 39%, while it was 36% for low-VT device. In this work, as the device is subject to HCI, we found that: (1) short-channel devices cause severe degradation on the threshold voltage and transconductance (gm) compared to long-channel devices, owing to the higher electric field for short-channel devices at the gate edge, (2) standard devices exhibit a more stable threshold voltage than that of low-VT power devices, since the TiN barrier layer prevents Al atom diffusion into the HfO2 layer, and (3) the transconductance efficiency of standard devices is better than that of low-VT power devices. Further, the lower-VT devices show lower transconductance degradation than standard devices. However, the transconductance degradation of the long-channel standard and low-VT devices are the same. Compared to short-channel low-VT devices, extended-channel standard devices are more immune to the HCI effect. © 2022, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society.

The high penetration of renewable energy sources poses a challenge to stability of power systems, particularly microgrids, which are more vulnerable due to their small capacity and low inertia. To address instability, system components and their interactions need to be represented to more efficiently understand and optimize complex systems. Agent-based modeling enables autonomous operation and collaborative interaction, making the system adaptable to changes efficiently, making it ideal for microgrid management. In this paper, an agent-based microgrid simulation model is proposed. By independently representing microgrid components such as generators, energy storage systems (ESS), loads, environments and controllers, models can dynamically simulate the behavior of power systems, respond to system changes in real time. To validate the proposed model, experiments are conducted based on IEEE 13 bus system, and the results show that with the use of ESS, the frequency peak is reduced from over 62 Hz to around 60 Hz. In the case of sudden demand fluctuations, the frequency remains relatively stable, staying close to 60 Hz. The model demonstrates flexibility and robustness in managing renewable energy fluctuations and sudden load changes.

Owing to their high surface area,stable structure and easy fabrication,composite nanomaterials with encapsulation structures have attracted considerable research interest as sensing materials to detect volatile organic ***,a hydrothermal route is designed to prepare foam shapedα-MoO_(3)@SnS_(2)nanosheets that exhibit excellent sensing performance for triethylamine(TEA).The developed sensor,based onα-MoO_(3)@SnS_(2)nanosheets,displays a high response of 114.9 for 100 ppm TEA at a low working temperature of 175℃with sensitivity higher than many other reported *** addition,the device shows a wide concentration detection range(from 500 ppb to 500 ppm),good stability after exposure to air for 80 days,and excellent *** superior sensing characteristics of the developed sensor are attributed to the high crystallinity ofα-MoO_(3)/SnS_(2),excessive and accessible active sites provided by the good permeability of porous SnS_(2)shells,and the excellent conductivity of the encapsulation heterojunction ***,the foam shapedα-MoO_(3)@SnS_(2)nanosheets presented herein have promising practical applications in TEA gas sensing devices.

The Republic of the Philippines is confronted with rebuilding its energy landscape, which now depends heavily on imported fossil fuels for a substantial supply. The Department of Energy (DOE) has established lofty objectives to enhance the nation's renewable energy (RE) capability; nevertheless, these objectives are still to be achieved. This research supports DOE's goals by studying other possible renewable energy sources. In particular, the primary aim of this research is to examine the viability of Offshore Wind Converters (OWCs) and Wave Energy Converters (WECs) as viable sustainable energy options for the Philippines. Ocean wave converters (OWCs) provide inherent benefits in terms of dependability and have widespread societal acceptance. Conversely, wave energy converters (WECs) harness the vast energy potential contained within ocean waves. A comparative evaluation was undertaken to analyze the differences between these two potential renewable energy sources. The assessment concludes that OWCs possess a minor advantage over WECs regarding their economic viability and higher societal acceptability. It recommended that the government adopts a diversified energy portfolio, which may include the incorporation of WECs to effectively navigate the changing dynamics of the energy sector, enhance sustainability, and ensure the long-term security of the nation's energy supply.

In-situ dehydrogenation impact on amorphous InGaZnO Thin-Film Transistors

Incorporating various elements in high-performance amorphous oxide semiconductor (AOS) thin-film transistors (TFTs) for the stable operation, resolution, and reliability of high-performance displays has garnered much research interest. Among those studied, hydrogen, the lightest element, defects in AOS that hinder stable operation, so it has become necessary to be able to detect its level and understand its effects. In addition, tracking and controlling the hydrogen concentration during initial AOS growth and post processing is crucial. In this study, we adjusted the hydrogen content within amorphous InGaZnO films by in-situ dehydrogenation, which is a method controlling the RF sputtering power during deposition. We found that the hydrogen concentration was decreased by 79.8 %, from 8.22 × 10¹⁶ /cm² to 1.62 × 10¹⁶ /cm² at an RF sputtering power of 100 W and 400 W, respectively. Dehydrogenation decreased defect bonding within the thin film, which subsequently improved the positive bias stress stability of the AOS TFT from 2.64 to 0.87 V. Thus, we anticipate that our in-situ dehydrogenation method significantly contributes to the elimination of post dehydrogenation process during TFT fabrication. © 2025

Purpose: Breast cancer is a molecularly heterogeneous disease, and multiple genetic variants contribute to its development and prognosis. Most of previous genome-wide association studies (GWASs) and polygenic risk scores (PRSs) analyses focused on studying breast cancers of Caucasian populations, which may not be applicable to other population. Therefore, we conducted the largest breast cancer cohort of Taiwanese population to fill in the knowledge gap. Methods: A total of 152,534 Participants recruited by China Medical University Hospital between 2003 and 2019 were filtered by several patient selection criteria and GWAS quality control steps, resulting in the inclusion of 2496 cases and 9984 controls for this study. We then conducted GWAS for all breast cancers and PRS analyses for all breast cancers and the four breast cancer subtypes, including luminal A, luminal B, basal-like, and HER2-enriched. Results: The GWAS analyses identified 113 SNPs, 50 of which were novel. The PRS models for all breast cancers and the luminal A subtype showed positively correlated trends between the PRS and the risk of developing breast cancer. The odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) for the groups with the highest PRS in all breast cancers and the luminal A subtype were 5.33 (3.79–7.66) and 3.55 (2.13–6.14), respectively. Conclusion: In summary, we explored the association of genetic variants with breast cancer in the largest Taiwanese cohort and developed two PRS models that can predict the risk of developing any breast cancer and the luminal A subtype in Taiwanese women. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

This study investigates synchronization dynamics in functional networks derived from functional magnetic resonance imaging data for control and body dysmorphic disorder groups, emphasizing the importance of understanding altered brain dynamics in psychiatric conditions. First, we analyze the routes to synchronization, identifying explosive and continuous transitions, with body dysmorphic disorder networks exhibiting a predominantly explosive route, which may underlie their pathological symptoms. Second, we explore chimera states in the intermediate coupling regime, capturing the coexistence of synchronized and desynchronized regions as the network transitions from heterogeneous activity to complete synchronization. Finally, we evaluate the effect of sinusoidal and square pulse stimulation on synchronization levels in the body dysmorphic disorder network, targeting specific brain regions. These results explain the reformed network dynamics in body dysmorphic disorder and tuning neuromodulation strategies.

Nearly two billion air-conditioning (AC) units are currently being used for space cooling worldwide. The majority of these ACs use R134a as the working fluid, a greenhouse gas (GHG) with a global warming potential (GWP) of 1300 kg-CO2-eq. According to the rules set by the world environment safety organizations, the GWP of domestic air-conditioning systems must not exceed 750 kg-CO2-eq. Hence, the R134a must be phased out by 2025, and an alternative refrigerant with similar thermodynamic properties yet low GWP is required. Therefore, the authors have investigated several potential binary/ternary refrigerant blends in this study. Among the studied refrigerants, R445A, R30A, and NPB2 (newly proposed blend: 8% R152a + 92% R1234yf) can reduce 90–99% global warming impact (more than 200 million tonnes of CO2 emission equivalent) caused by the domestic air-conditioning systems every year. © 2023, The Institution of Engineers (India).
