Automated System for Freight Transportation Optimization on the Transport Network

An automated system for freight traffic optimization on a transport network has been developed, which is realized in the form of a complex computer program with application of the visual design environment of Embarcadero RAD Studio. The program complex consists of the main form from which two subprograms are loaded. The search of optimum routes performed by the routing optimization subprogram is used at transportations of freight on the set transport network based on different schemes (from one vertex (the supplier) to all other vertices (consumers), serially - from each vertex to all other vertices, and from two (or several) set of vertices to all other vertices). Freight delivery between the supply and consumption points was optimized by means of the freight transportation optimization subprogram, taking into account the restrictions on the volume of freight at the points of departure and destination. © 2023 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The paper is devoted to the development of a genetic algorithm for finding the optimal values of control parameters of the ethylene oligomerization process. The formulation of the problem of optimal control of the ethylene oligomerization process is given. The control parameters are temperature and reaction duration, the values of which are subject to constraints. It is proposed to search for the solution of the formulated problems using a genetic algorithm with real coding. The principle of operation of genetic algorithms is based on the imitation of the processes of evolution of living nature. It includes cyclic application of selection, crossing, mutation and renewal operations to a population of individuals. For each of the problems under consideration the method of representation of the mathematical analog of the population, on the basis of which the solution is searched, is described. A step-by-step genetic algorithm for solving the formulated optimal control problems is given. A computational experiment is carried out, as a result of which the optimal reaction temperature and process duration, at which the target functional takes the largest value, are calculated. © 2024 IEEE.

The problem of the rational use of energy resources remains constantly relevant and requires the search for new approaches. One of them is power control. In AC circuits, the authors see the most promising method of phase AC power control. Based on it, a power control module was developed. The structural and circuit diagrams of the developed device are presented to implement the proposed solution. The authors produced its experimental prototype and conducted experimental testing at various levels of regulated power. Savings when using the proposed power control module were calculated using the example of energy consumption in various sectors of energy-intensive systems. According to the data obtained, the module allows saving energy consumption without significant discomfort to the energy user. The calculated results allow concluding that the proposed AC power control module is fully operational, and its widespread use will significantly reduce the need for electricity. © 2024 IEEE.

Advanced convolutional neural network with attention mechanism for Alzheimer's disease classification using MRI

This paper introduces a novel convolutional neural network model with an attention mechanism to advance Alzheimer disease (AD) classification using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The model architecture is meticulously crafted to enhance feature extraction and selectively focus on crucial regions within brain images, thereby improving diagnostic accuracy. A unique component, the MRI Segmentation Block (MSB), is introduced to manage the skull stripping task effectively, highlighting the model ability to learn from complex, multilayered information. We have incorporated a detailed experimental evaluation of the MSB, demonstrating its superior performance in cranial debridement tasks compared to existing methods. The experiments involved a range of MRI scans, assessing the MSB's accuracy through metrics like the Dice Coefficient and Jaccard Index against ground truth annotations by expert radiologists. The results substantiate the MSB's effectiveness, setting a new benchmark for precision in medical imaging diagnostics. The proposed method integrates densely connected neural networks with a connection-wise attention model to extract multiscale features from MRI scans. Furthermore, the attention mechanism is fine-tuned to emphasize salient features significantly associated with various stages of Alzheimer's disease, thereby setting a new benchmark for precision in medical imaging diagnostics. Extensive experiments on the Alzheimer Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) dataset demonstrate the superiority of our method over traditional and contemporary approaches, with our model achieving high accuracy and computational efficiency. This makes it suitable for clinical applications where resources are limited. This study represents a significant advancement in the diagnostic process for AD, with potential implications for improving patient outcomes in clinical settings. © 2025 The Authors

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of biocapacity and institutional quality on inclusive human development in Sub-Saharan Africa. Using system-GMM on a sample of 39 countries, it is found that institutional quality increases inclusive human development and all its components. It is also established that biocapacity positively affects inclusive human development and the underlying positive effect is driven by the inclusive health component of inclusive human development and not by the inclusive education and inclusive income components of inclusive human development. A keen follow-up of environmental laws is a safe path for inclusive human development in Sub-Saharan Africa. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Bayesian methods for the analysis of early-phase oncology basket trials with information borrowing across cancer types

Research in oncology has changed the focus from histological properties of tumors in a specific organ to a specific genomic aberration potentially shared by multiple cancer types. This motivates the basket trial, which assesses the efficacy of treatment simultaneously on multiple cancer types that have a common aberration. Although the assumption of homogeneous treatment effects seems reasonable given the shared aberration, in reality, the treatment effect may vary by cancer type, and potentially only a subgroup of the cancer types respond to the treatment. Various approaches have been proposed to increase the trial power by borrowing information across cancer types, which, however, tend to inflate the type I error rate. In this paper, we review some representative Bayesian information borrowing methods for the analysis of early-phase basket trials. We then propose a novel method called the Bayesian hierarchical model with a correlated prior (CBHM), which conducts more flexible borrowing across cancer types according to sample similarity. We did simulation studies to compare CBHM with independent analysis and three information borrowing approaches: the conventional Bayesian hierarchical model, the EXNEX approach and Liu's two-stage approach. Simulation results show that all information borrowing approaches substantially improve the power of independent analysis if a large proportion of the cancer types truly respond to the treatment. Our proposed CBHM approach shows an advantage over the existing information borrowing approaches, with a power similar to that of EXNEX or Liu's approach, but the potential to provide substantially better control of type I error rate.
