Requirements Engineering is one of the most important phases in any product development life cycle since it is the basis for the complete software or product design and realization. Therefore in a worst case scenario any error within a requirement can result in a project loss. Computer support for requirement engineers is still premature as most RE applications can not cope with more sophisticated techniques like semantics, natural language processing etc. In this paper we will present the ongoing research work in semantic requirement engineering which will try to close the gap between computer understandable semantics, namely ontologies, and the natural language input of a human.

Efficient business processes are key to economic success. With the need to frequently adapt or restructure business processes and workflows in a dynamic market, agile processes and (semi-)automatic workflow and process composition would be useful. Currently, this is a manual and time-consuming task. Automating and optimizing this task is of high interest in research communities. Nevertheless, the orientation differs: Some focus on semantic web services, others on Grid workflows or concentrate on business process management. In this paper we present a survey of available workflow annotation and composition approaches in all of these areas. We additionally categorize and compare them and describe future work.

Models describing business processes in a company nowadays have the drawback that they are not machine-processable for two reasons: First the terminology is not formalized. Second the dynamic semantics of the process model is not formally defined. Thus, many discussions and human work is necessary in order to create and maintain process models. However, with a semantic annotation of process models and the usage of ontologies, tasks can be automized and the workload of the user can be reduced to a minimum. In this paper we discuss different possibilities and the added value of annotating a business process model with semantic information.

Modeling languages provide a powerful technique for describing domain-specific concepts and their relationships. Since the syntactical structure is determined by a meta-model, expressions can be defined on the meta layer and evaluated for arbitrary instances. Currently, meta-modeling standards lack an easy way for defining rules capable of dynamically examining the behavior of a model. In this paper we discuss a new approach that links meta-modeling with well-understood methods from the field of compiler construction in order to express semantic constraints and perform data-flow calculations on model instances. We show how our approach can be used to analyze and validate business processes and specify further use cases like e.g. the calculation of model metrics.

In the last years business process mining has become a wide research area. However, existing process mining techniques encounter challenges while dealing with event logs stemming from highly flexible environments because such logs contain a large amount of different behaviors. As a result, inaccurate and wrong analysis results might be obtained. In this paper we propose a case (a case is an instance of the business process) classification technique which is able to combine domain experts knowledge for classifying cases so that each group is calculated containing the cases with similar behaviors. By applying existing process mining techniques on the cases for each group, more meaningful and accurate analysis results can be obtained.

The development of web services and especially semantic web services is a tremendous task for people who are not familiar with all language constructs. Especially with the growing mass of several semantic web service approaches a language-independent service development is needed. This gap can be filled by using model-driven software development. Therefore, in this paper we introduce a meta-model for semantic web services and show the benefits of automatic code generation on the basis of a small example.

A number of popular engineering processes and methodologies emerged over the past years which attracted interest in research and industry. For process enactment, enterprises have to match requirements of engineering processes with existing resources. Therefore, it has to be analyzed if employees have sufficient skills or if infrastructure has sufficient capabilities to match the requirements of a situational process. Both, maintaining a skill and resource database and matching requirements against this database are an enormously challenging and time-consuming task. Additionally, this matching has to be carried out regularly as employees join and leave the company and skills change over time. Based upon a formal, logical base, we present an approach that combines ontological and metamodeling technical spaces and enables an automatic analysis of engineering processes regarding the existence of necessary resources.
Proximity is a key to scalable and meaningful interactions in distributedsystems, both natural and artificial, and in particular in pervasive computing environments. However, proximity as such is a vague notion that ...
