In this paper, we proposed a novel method based upon Lidar, atmospheric transmissometer and particle size spectrometer for PM2.5 detection. Combining the transmissive visibility meter and a particle size spectrometer, we can establish the relationship between PM2.5 mass concentration and atmospheric transmittance in vertical space. Then, with the transmissive visibility meter and Lidar, the vertical distribution of the atmospheric transmittance detected by the Lidar can be corrected. Compared with the direct use of particle size spectrometer and Lidar to retrieve the PM2.5 mass concentration profile, our method not only can determine Lidar boundary value effectively, but also settle the issue of incomplete overlap zone between the transmitter and the receiver to a certain extent. With real data, the proposed method is verified.

CERN experiments are preparing for the HL-LHC era, which will bring an unprecedented volume of scientific data. These data will need to be stored and processed by thousands of physicists, but expected resource growth is nowhere near the extrapolated requirements of existing models, in terms of both storage volume and compute power. Opportunistic CPU resources such as HPCs and university clusters can provide extra CPU cycles, but there is no opportunistic storage. In this article, we will present the main architectural ideas, deployment details, and test results, with emphasis on our research to build a prototype of a distributed data processing and storage system with a focus on optimizing the efficiency of resources by reducing overhead costs for accessing the data. The described prototype was built using the geographically distributed WLCG sites and university clusters in Russia.

Protective role of Allium cepa Linn (onion) juice on maternal dexamethasone induced alterations in reproductive functions of female offspring of Wistar rats

Maternal treatment with dexamethasone induces oxidative stress in the reproductive structures of offspring. Consumption of Allium cepa Linn improves antioxidant status. This study was designed to evaluate the protective role of Allium cepa Linn juice on maternal dexamethasone induced alterations in reproductive functions of the female offspring of Wistar *** lactating dams (180-200 g) were randomly assigned into four groups (n 1/4 5) on the day of parturition and treated as follows during lactation for 21 days: Control (5 ml/kg BW distilled water);Dexamethasone (60 mu g/ kg BW);Allium cepa (5 ml/kg BW);Dexamethasone thorn Allium cepa (60 mu g/kg BW thorn 5 ml/kg BW). The female offspring were separated at birth. Days of vaginal opening and first oestrus cycle, length and frequency of estrous cycle as well as serum hormonal profiles were assessed as measure of reproductive functions. Ovarian superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, catalase activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) level were measured as indices of oxidative *** cycle length, frequencies of diestrus as well as the Ovarian MDA were significantly increased (p < 0.05) in dexamethasone (DEX) group relative to control group. Serum 178-oestradiol and corticosterone level in addition to SOD and catalase activities were significantly reduced (p < 0.05) in DEX group relative to control. Coadministration of Dex with Allium cepa Linn juice reduced the oestrous length, frequency of diestrous as well as ovarian MDA. There was also a significant increase in serum 178-oestradiol, ovarian SOD and catalase *** results suggest that Allium cepa could protect against alterations in reproductive functions of offspring induced by maternal treatment with dexamethasone during lactation in Wistar rats. The flavonoid constituent of onion may also help in reducing oxidative stress in the offspring.

Dynamic conformational flexibility and molecular interactions of intrinsically disordered proteins

Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) are highly flexible and undergo disorder to order transition upon binding. They are highly abundant in human proteomes and play critical roles in cell signaling and regulatory processes. This review mainly focuses on the dynamics of disordered proteins including their conformational heterogeneity, protein-protein interactions, and the phase transition of biomolecular condensates that are central to various biological functions. Besides, the role of RNA-mediated chaperones in protein folding and stability of IDPs were also discussed. Finally, we explored the dynamic binding interface of IDPs as novel therapeutic targets and the effect of small molecules on their interactions.

The widespread implementation of neural network tools for biometric authentication based on facial and iris images at critical infrastructure facilities has significantly increased the level of security. However, modern requirements dictate the need to modernize these tools to increase resistance to spoofing attacks, as well as to provide a base for assessing the compliance of the psycho-emotional state of personnel with job responsibilities, which is difficult to ensure using traditional monolithic neural network models. Therefore, this article is devoted to the development of a modular neural network model that provides effective biometric authentication for critical infrastructure personnel based on facial images, taking into account the listed requirements. When developing the model, an approach was used in which the functionality of each module was defined in such a way as to correspond to a task traditionally solved by a separate neural network model. This made it possible to use in each individual module a tested and accessible toolkit that has proven its effectiveness in solving the corresponding problem, which, in turn, compared to traditional approaches, allows for a 30-40% increase in the efficiency of the development and adaptation of authentication tools for the conditions of their application. Innovative features of the developed modular model include the ability to recognize spoofing attacks based on environmental artifacts and the naturalness of emotions, as well as an increase in the accuracy of person recognition due to the use of a U-Net neural network to highlight natural facial contours in occlusions. The experimental results show that the proposed model allows for a 5-10% decrease in person recognition error, recognition of spoofing attacks based on the naturalness of emotions and images of background objects, and recognition of the emotional state of personnel, which increases the efficiency of biometric authentication tools.

Breast cancer mutation in GATA3 zinc finger 1 induces conformational changes leading to the closer binding of ZnFn2 with a wrapping architecture

GATA3 is a transcription factor, known to regulate the transcriptional network and several pathways using two zinc fingers. Its mutation is associated with a higher risk of breast cancer. The molecular mechanisms of these mutations are poorly understood. It recognizes -GATA- sites on the DNA, using its two zinc fingers ZnFn1 and ZnFn2. Mutations in ZnFn2 have been studied in the past and well known but recently ZnFn1 mutations are also being reported very frequently in breast cancer patients and there is very less knowledge available regarding the binding modes and mechanism. Here, we have investigated the structural and functional impact of GATA3 mutation M294K on the DNA-binding property. The structure was obtained and mutation was induced before subjecting it to the molecular docking followed by MD simulation. Our findings indicate that the somatic mutation M294K, reported in the GATA3 gene destabilizes the unbound structure but, when it forms the DNA-complex, its overall structural stability is restored by the wrapping architecture of ZnFn2 around the DNA in the palindromic region, leading to the enhanced kinetic stability. The mutation not only affects the ZnFn1 region alone but also influences the whole complex by inducing the conformational changes in the linker region between the two zinc fingers, bringing the two zinc fingers to closer proximity representing the flexibility in binding sites. Our findings provide a better understanding of ZnFn1 mutations and the possibility of a different strategy to target these genes for their clinical relevance. Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma

Comprehensive optimization of the synchronous delivery network in the model of OTMD for traveling salesman problem with drone

Synchronous delivery with different vehicles, as an emerging concept of the delivery network, improves the efficiency of the modern logistics system significantly, which gradually gives birth to a new issue: the traveling salesman problem with drone (TSP-D). In this paper, we propose a one-truck-multiple-drone (OTMD) model on the base of the TSP-D. Compared with the traditional one-truck-one-drone (OTOD) and multiple drones models, our scheme introduces a united objective function into the optimization calculation. In terms of the proposed multiple levels iterative theory, we can compute the optimal synchronous delivery network that takes both the total delivery time and the number of drones into consideration. Four types of customer distributions are employed to investigate the OTMD model and its associated calculation approaches. Comparing the parameters of the optimal network in different delivery models, we study the relationship among the total delivery time, customer distribution and the number of serving drones. These simulation results verify the feasibility and practicality of the OTMD, and demonstrate the features of optimization calculation with different customer distributions, being beneficial to improve the efficiency of the model logistics system.

This study aims to analyze a Bayesian regularization backpropagation algorithm for micropolar ternary hybrid nanofluid flow over curved surfaces with homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions, Joule heating and viscous dissipation. The ternary hybrid nanofluid consists of nanoparticles of titanium oxide (TiO2), copper oxide (CuO), and silicon oxide (SiO2), with blood as the base fluid. The governing partial differential equations for the fluid flow are converted into ordinary differential equations using a group of self-similar transformations. The ordinary differential equations are solved using an appropriate shooting algorithm in MATlab. The effects of physand homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical reaction parameters are analyzed for velocity, micro rotational, temperature, and concentration profile. Postzygotic somatic mutations have been found associated with human disease, including diseases other than cancer. Most information on somatic mutations has come from studying clonally amplified mutant cells, based on a growth advantage or genetic drift. However, almost all somatic mutations are unique for each cell, and the quantitative analysis of these low-abundance mutations in normal tissues remains a major challenge in biology. Here, we introduce single-molecule mutation sequencing (SMM-seq), a novel approach for quantitative identification of point mutations in normal cells and tissues.

Effect of turbulent structures on the riverbank erosion due to tidal influence: A case study from the Rupnarayan River, eastern India

For understanding the sediment removal mechanism from the bank face, field measurements of the dominating turbulent flow structures under the influence of flood and ebb tide were carried out at the middle reach 98 km upstream of the mouth of Rupnarayan River, India where the bank erosion activity was highly dynamic. Measurement of the three-dimensional temporal variation of velocity was carried out using a 16-MHz Micro-ADV during the transition period of flood to ebb tide. Results from the present field study depict that during the transition of the onset of the ebb tide, the velocity field showed reduced values that gradually acquired negative values at the near bank region. This manifested the existence of an anti-clock circulation during flood tide and clock-wise circulation during ebb tide at the near bank flow field. It was also pertinent that the velocity gradient during ebb tide was greater as compared to the velocity gradient during flood tide. Accordingly, the turbulent bursting analysis revealed that the ejection and sweep events were prominent during ebb tide resulting in the dislodgement of sediment from the bank face at a larger rate. Further, the similarity of the wavelet patterns revealed that a good correlation existed between the stream-wise and transverse velocity component during ebb tide that enhanced the erosion process during the ebb tide event.
