Experimental maternal treatment with dexamethasone during lactation induces neonatal testicular and epididymal oxidative stress;Implications for early postnatal exposure

Maternal treatment with dexamethasone during lactation alters reproductive functions and increases serum corticosterone in the male offspring. Excess corticosterone may induce oxidative stress. This study was designed to evaluate the effects of maternal treatment with dexamethasone during lactation on oxidative stress indices in the testis and epididymis of a male offspring. Twenty lactating dams were divided into 4 groups (n = 5). Group 1 was administered 0.02 ml/100 g/day normal saline subcutaneously at lactation days 1–21. Groups 2, 3, and 4 were administered 100 μg/kg/day dexamethasone (Dex) subcutaneously at lactation days (LD) 1–7, 1–14, and 1–21 respectively. Testis and epididymis malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities were measured as markers of oxidative stress. The mean testis and epididymis MDA were significantly raised (p < 0.05) in the dexamethasone-treated groups when compared with control. This was accompanied with a significant reduction (p < 0.05) in SOD and catalase activities in these tissues in the DexLD 1–21, when compared with control. The mean total protein level of the epididymis was significantly reduced (p < 0.05) in all the dexamethasone treated groups when compared with control. In conclusion, maternal treatment with dexamethasone during the first two weeks of lactation and throughout lactation may lead to increase in oxidative stress in the testis and epididymis of the male offspring of Wistar rats. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.

The distributed evaluation of functional programs and the communication between computational nodes require high-level process description and coordination mechanism. This paper presents the D-Clean high-level functional language, which supports the distributed computation of Clean functions over a cluster. The lazy functional programming language Clean is extended by new language elements in order to achieve parallel features. The distributed computations of functions are expressed in the form of process-networks. D-Clean introduces language primitives to control the dataflow in a distributed process-network. A process scheme defines a partial computation graph, where the nodes are functions to be evaluated and the edges are communication channels. The computational nodes are implemented as statically typed Clean programs. The schemes are parameterized by functions, types and data for defining process networks. D-Clean is compiled to an intermediate level language called D-Box. The D-Clean generic constructs are instantiated into D-Box expressions. D-Box is designed for the description of the computational nodes. D-Box expressions hide implementation details and enable direct control over the process-network. The asynchronous communication is based on language-independent middleware services. The present paper provides the syntax and the informal semantics of both coordination languages. To illustrate the definition of a distributed functional computational pattern using the D-Clean language a farm skeleton running example is presented.

Fairness concern behavior, a well-known cognitive bias, refers to a person’s attitude of dissatisfaction for unequal pay-offs in someone’s favor. Against environmental pollution, many firms are focused on green manufacturing to maintain sustainable development. The adoption of online shopping by customers around the globe has altered the dynamics of competitiveness in the retail supply chain (SC). Considering the above facts, the effect of fairness concern on optimal prices and channel members’ profits in a two-level dual channel SC is investigated. Here, we consider an SC comprising a green manufacturer and a fair-minded retailer where the manufacturer produces and sells the green product through both offline and online channels to consumers. Due to uncertainty in the real world, the fuzziness is associated with market demand, price elasticity, and the coefficient of greenness. The fuzzy objectives and constraints are reduced to crisp ones using expectation and possibility measures, respectively. Both centralized and decentralized models (with and without cognitive bias) are formulated and solved by the Stackelberg game for the optimal prices and product greenness level. The models’ optimal solutions are analyzed and compared with the deterministic models numerically. The effects of the fairness concern coefficient on the optimal prices, product greenness level, and channel members’ profits are investigated. The sensitivity analyses are presented to study the effects of the fuzzy degree of customers’ sensitivity toward greenness on channel members’ profits. Retailer’s fairness is harmful to the manufacturer but beneficial for her own profit. The potential of heterogeneous multicores, like the Cell BE, can only be exploited if the host and the accelerator cores are used in parallel and if the specific features of the cores are considered. Parallel programming, especially when applied to irregular task-parallel problems, is challenging itself. However, heterogeneous multicores add to that complexity due to their memory hierarchy and specialized accelerators. As a solution for these issues we present CellCilk, a prototype implementation of Cilk for heterogeneous multicores with a host/accelerator design, using the Cell BE in particular. CellCilk introduces a new keyword (spu-spawn) for task creation on the accelerator cores. Task scheduling and load balancing are done by a novel dynamic cross-hierarchy work-stealing regime. Furthermore, the CellCilk runtime employs a garbage collection mechanism for distributed data structures that are created during scheduling. On benchmarks we achieve a good speedup and reasonable runtimes, even when compared to manually parallelized codes. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

In the advent of ambient intelligence, introducing ubiquitous mobile systems and services in general and mobile code in particular, network latency becomes a critical factor, especially in wireless, low-bandwidth environments. This paper investigates anticipative mobility, a high performance computing technique that exploits parallelism between loading and execution of applications to reduce network latency. The technique sends the mobile application code anticipative to the remote host, long before the actual migration is requested. Then, at the actual migration, we won't transfer the complete application anymore but only the delta of the current computational state with the already migrated computational state. Our experiments show that some applications can migrate in 2% of their original migration time. This allows applications to migrate very fast from host to host without a significant loss of execution time during the migration phase. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2003.

We describe an axiom system ACP_p that incorporates real timed actions. Many examples are provided in order to explain the intuitive contents of the notation. ACP_p is a generalisation of ACP. This implies that some of the axioms have to be relaxed and that ACP can be recovered as a special case from it. The purpose of ACP_p is to serve as a specification language for real time systems. Scheduling Algorithm to Select Optimal Programme Slots in Television Channels: A Graph Theoretic Approach

In this paper, it is shown that all programmes of all television channels can be modelled as an interval graph. The programme slots are taken as the vertices of the graph and if the time duration of two programme slots have non-empty intersection, the corresponding vertices are considered to be connected by an edge. The number of viewers of a programme is taken as the weight of the vertex. A set of programmes that are mutually exclusive in respect of time scheduling is called a session. We assume that a company sets the objective of selecting the popular programmes in k parallel sessions among different channels so as to make its commercial advertisement reach the maximum number of viewers, that is, a company selects k suitable programme slots simultaneously for advertisement. The aim of the paper is, therefore, to help the companies to select the programme slots, which are mutually exclusive with respect to the time schedule of telecasting time, in such a way that the total number of viewers of the selected programme in k parallel slots rises to the optimum level. It is shown that the solution of this problem is obtained by solving the maximum weight k-colouring problem on an interval graph. An algorithm is designed to solve this just-in-time optimization problem using O(kMn ² ) time, where n and M represent the total number of programmes of all channels and the upper bound of the viewers of all programmes of all channels respectively. The problem considered in this paper is a daily life problem which is modeled by k-colouring problem on interval graph. © 2016, Springer India Pvt. Ltd.

This article discusses the use of fuzzy logic and a neural network to predict the demand for pharmaceutical products in a distributed network, in conditions of insufficient information, a large assortment and the influence of risk factors. A comprehensive approach to solving forecasting problems is proposed using: the theory of fuzzy logic - when forecasting emerging and unmet needs and a neural network - if there is a lot of retrospective information about the actual sale of drugs and drugs. Using this approach to solve the problems of forecasting demand allows you to get statistics and experience.
