Biocomputing and molecular biology are areas that change knowledge and skills for acquisition, storing, management, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of biological information. This requires the utilization of high performance computers and innovative software tools for management of the vast information, as well as deployment of innovative algorithmic techniques for analysis, interpretation and prognostication of data in order to get to insight of the design and validation of life-science experiments. Sequence alignment is an important method in DNA and protein analysis. The paper describes the computational challenges in biological sequence processing. The great challenges are to propose parallel computational models and parallel program implementations based on the algorithms for biological sequence alignment. An investigation of the efficiency of sequence alignment based on parallel multithreaded program implementation of Needleman-Wunsch algorithm is presented in this paper. Parallel computational model based on Needleman-Wunsch algorithm is designed. The proposed parallel model is verified by multithreaded parallel program implementation utilizing OpenMP. A number of experiments have been carried out for the case of various data sets and a various number of threads. Parallel performance parameters execution time and speedup are estimated experimentally. The performance estimation and scalability analyses show that the suggested model has good scalability both in respect to the workload and machine size.

Data poisoning attacks, where adversaries manipulate training data to degrade model performance, are an emerging threat as machine learning becomes widely deployed in sensitive applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of data poisoning including attack techniques, adversary incentives, impacts on security and reliability, detection methods, defenses, and key research gaps. We examine label flipping, instance injection, backdoors, and other attack categories that enable malicious outcomes ranging from IP theft to accidents in autonomous systems. Promising detection approaches include statistical tests, robust learning, and forensics. However, significant challenges remain in translating academic defenses like adversarial training and sanitization into practical tools ready for operational use. With safety and trustworthiness at stake, more research on benchmarking evaluations, adaptive attacks, fundamental tradeoffs, and real-world deployment of defenses is urgently needed. Understanding vulnerabilities and developing resilient machine learning pipelines will only grow in importance as data integrity is fundamental to developing safe artificial intelligence. © The Institution of Engineering & technology 2023.

Access control is a vital security mechanism in today's operating systems, and the security policies dictating the security relevant behaviors is lengthy and complex, for example in Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux). It is extremely difficult to verify the consistency between the security policies and the security goals desired by applications. In this paper, we present how to predict whether the information flow security goal is violated or not during runtime, how to generate the corresponding control actions on-line when divergence is detected and how to apply these actions in time based on software active monitoring technique. The symbolic security information flow model of SElinux is generated from a formalization of the access control mechanism which can be used to generate the N-step ahead projection of the future behavior. Information flow security goals are expressed in linear temporal logic (LTL) which provides clear description of the objectives desired by applications. Anticipatory monitor is generated from LTL formula automatically. We consider an on-line scheme where after the occurrence of an event, the next control action is determined on the basis of the N-step ahead projection of the future behavior. This procedure is repeated after the occurrence of next security relevant event. Thus, a closed-loop system is generated that all behavior sequences will satisfy the security goals.

Optical character recognition(OCR) can be used in some management mechanisms of state and business world to organize documents scanned or captured by camera. Therefore, OCR is one of the subjects rapidly evolving in the recent times. This study investigates the procedure steps until character recognition. That's because, the more correctly preprocessings are applied;the better results can be obtained in character recognition. In this study, the algorithms providing the best results are determined by following the procedure stages of gray scale transformation, noise removal and image thresholding. Binarization plays an important role in character recognition. For this reason, algorithms dynamically determine thresholds are preferred for character recognition in this study. Accordingly, Otsu thresholding method was determined to give the best results in terms of both picture quality and speed. Therefore, this method was used for character recognition. Primarily, lines were determined for character separation and then letters were individually obtained.

Fuzzy competition graph as the generalization of competition graph is introduced here. A generalization of fuzzy competition graph known as fuzzy k-competition graph is also defined. These graphs are related to fuzzy digraphs. Fuzzy neighbourhood graphs, which are related to fuzzy graphs are defined here. Some relations between fuzzy competition graphs and fuzzy neighbourhood graphs have been established. Also several results to find strong edges of the stated graphs are obtained.

The skeleton computing the distributed elementwise processing in D-Clean splits the input data, then applies an elementwise process-able function on the divided input, and finally composes the result from the already computed subresults. This paper presents improvements and refinements of the generalized skeleton implementation. The distributed and functional skeleton of the elementwise processing is implemented using the D-Clean coordination language with a new technique.

Formal methods (in a broad sense) have been around almost since the beginning of computer science. Nonetheless, there is a perception in the formal methods community that take-up by industry is low considering the potential benefits. We take a look at possible reasons and give candidate explanations for this effect. To address the issue, we propose a repository of industry-relevant example problems with an accompanying open data storage for experiment results in order to document, disseminate and compare exemplary solutions from formal model based methods. This would allow potential users from industry to better understand the available solutions and to more easily select and adopt a formal method that fits their needs. At the same time, it would foster the adoption of open data and good scientific practice in this research field. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2018.

In the purview of most educational sectors today, numerous reviews regarding data mining have been the primary focus, with goals of discovering vast knowledge patterns for students' data. This paper focuses on building model that predicted the performance of computer science students in some courses they were examined through classification technique. The model built for the purpose of classification via decision tree classifier which was adopted in WEKA and KNIME analytics platform. The workflow model basically connected nodes to generate the decision trees while J4.8 Decision Tree Classifier programmable outputs were generated for the courses to obtain the confusion matrix and other instances. Bar Charts were plotted to display the students' performance in the courses. The mean absolute errors, RMS error and relative absolute error all read 0% while the kappa value obtained from the analysis ranged between 0.991 - 1.00 which perfectly agrees for most statistical values. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. We address the problem of performing a pipelined broadcast on a mesh architecture. Meshes require a different approach than other topologies, and their very nature puts a tighter bound on the performance that one can hope to achieve. By using the appropriate techniques, however, one can obtain excellent performance for sufficiently long messages. The resulting algorithm will work on meshes of any dimension with any number of nodes. Our model assumes that the mesh is a torus and/or that it has bidirectional links and uses wormhole routing. Performance data from the Cray T3D are included.

Building large, heterogeneous, distributed software systems poses serious problems for the software engineer;achieving interoperability of software systems is still a major challenge. We describe an experiment in designing a generic software architecture for solving these problems. To get control over the possible interactions between software components ("tools") we forbid direct inter-tool communication. Instead, all interactions are controlled by a "script" that formalizes all the desired interactions among tools. This leads to a component interconnection architecture resembling a hardware communication bus, and therefore we will call it a "TooLBus'. We describe the coordination of tools in process-oriented "T scripts" featuring, amongst others, (1) sequential composition, choice and iteration of processes;(2) handshaking (synchronous) communication of messages;(3) esynchronous communication of notes to an arbitrary number of processes;(4) note subscription;(5) dynamic process creation. Most notably lacking are built-in datatypes: operations on data can only be performed by tools, giving opportunities for efficient implementation, In three large case studies, the TooLBus architecture has been used to build editor-interfaces with user-defined extensions, to study feature interaction in intelligent networks, and to build a simulator for traffic light control. We give an overview of these case studies and briefly sketch the evolution of the TooLBUS design that incorporates the lessons we have learned from them. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 1996.
