The SCIP Optimization Suite provides a collection of software packages for mathematical optimization centered around the constraint integer programming framework SCIP. This paper discusses enhancements and extensions contained in version 8.0 of the SCIP Optimization Suite. Major updates in SCIP include improvements in symmetry handling and decomposition algorithms, new cutting planes, a new plugin type for cut selection, and a complete rework of the way nonlinear constraints are handled. Additionally, SCIP 8.0 now supports interfaces for Julia as well as Matlab. Further, UG now includes a unified framework to parallelize all solvers, a utility to analyze computational experiments has been added to GCG, dual solutions can be postsolved by PaPILO, new heuristics and presolving methods were added to SCIP-SDP, and additional problem classes and major performance improvements are available in *** Codes 90C05, 90C10, 90C11, 90C30, 90C90, 65Y05 Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Emerging technologies for improving embryo selection: a systematic review

Background: Embryo selection procedure is one of the critical success factors in in vitro fertilization treatment. Various embryo selection technologies have emerged within the past decade. These technologies are either used in combination with morphology or introduced to replace the conventional morphological evaluation. This review aims at investigating the effect of these novel embryo selection technologies on in vitro fertilization success rates. Methods: A systematic review of the literature was performed among full-text English articles in the PubMed database. Study selection was based on the predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Clinical effectiveness of the selected studies was measured in terms of implantation, pregnancy, live birth, and multiple pregnancy rates. Results: Five studies were identified that fitted the inclusion criteria. In these studies, researchers used aneuploidy screening, metabolomic profiling, and time-lapse imaging analysis as the new technologies. Among these studies, the one that conducted a randomized controlled trial of a commercial time-lapse imaging system demonstrated significant improvement in implantation rate. Conclusion: Studies using emerging technologies for embryo assessment provide promising results in retrospective analysis. On the other hand, randomized controlled trial studies that test the efficacy of novel embryo selection techniques in clinical practice failed to demonstrate a consistent improvement in the resulting success rates. This review provides a snapshot of the most recent literature on embryo assessment and embryo selection studies. Our findings show that there is a lack of comparative measurements and analyses that are able to assess benefits of the novel technologies in the field of embryo selection.

The potential of heterogeneous multicores, like the Cell BE, can only be exploited if the host and the accelerator cores are used in parallel and if the specific features of the cores are considered. Parallel programming, especially when applied to irregular task-parallel problems, is challenging itself. However, heterogeneous multicores add to that complexity due to their memory hierarchy and specialized accelerators. As a solution for these issues we present CellCilk, a prototype implementation of Cilk for heterogeneous multicores with a host/accelerator design, using the Cell BE in particular. CellCilk introduces a new keyword (spu-spawn) for task creation on the accelerator cores. Task scheduling and load balancing are done by a novel dynamic cross-hierarchy work-stealing regime. Furthermore, the CellCilk runtime employs a garbage collection mechanism for distributed data structures that are created during scheduling. On benchmarks we achieve a good speedup and reasonable runtimes, even when compared to manually parallelized codes. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Correlation Between Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCS), PET/CT Response And Pathological Complete Response (PCR) in Primary HER2-Positive (HER2+) Breast Cancer Patients: A Sub-Study From the Neoaltto Trial

Background Although CTC detection has been studied in patients receiving preoperative chemotherapy, fewer data exist for preoperative chemotherapy combined with anti-HER2 agents. Here, we report a sub-study of CTC detection within the NeoALTTO trial. Methods NeoALTTO is a randomized phase III trial in which patients with primary HER2+ breast cancer were randomized to trastuzumab, lapatinib or their combination for 6 weeks followed by the addition of paclitaxel for 12 weeks prior to surgery. Participation in the CTC sub-study was optional. Blood samples were prospectively collected at baseline, after 2 weeks of anti-HER2 treatment alone and prior to surgery. A total of 22.5mL of blood was reduced to 7.5mL using a modified ficoll procedure that was then processed using CellSearch®. Evaluation of HER2 expression in CTCs was performed using the CellSearch® HER2 profiling kit. CTCs with HER2 staining intensity of 2 + /3+ were considered as HER2+. Associations between CTC detection and primary tumor characteristics, pCR and PET/CT response (at week 2 & 6) were assessed using the chi-square test. Results Out of 455 patients randomized, samples for CTC analysis were available for 51 (11%) patients from 16 sites, of whom 11 (21%) had ≥ 1 CTC/22.5ml in at least one time point (Table 1). At baseline, week 2 and surgery, we detected ≥1 CTC/22.5ml in 5/46 (11%), 4/41 (10%), and 5/31 (16%) patients with evaluable samples respectively. HER2+ CTCs were still detectable after 18 weeks of preoperative treatment with anti-HER2 agents plus paclitaxel in 3/31 (10%) patients. No significant association was observed between CTC detection (either at baseline or week 2 or surgery), and clinicopathologic characteristics, pCR (p = 0.36) or PET/CT response at week 2 (p = 0.34) or week 6 (p = 0.90). Conclusion CTC detection does not appear to be associated with pCR in patients receiving preoperative anti-HER2 agents plus paclitaxel, acknowledging the lack of power within our study. Patient Trea

Since April 1998 he has been a Research Associate in the Graduate School of Informatics Kyoto University. His current research interests include robust control and control system design via mathematical programming. Yutaka Yamamoto received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering from Kyoto University Kyoto Japan in 1972 and 1974 respectively and the M.S. and Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the University of Florida in 1976 and 1978 respectively. From 1978 to 1987 he was with Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics Kyoto University and from 1987 to 1997 with Department of Applied System Science. Since 1998 he is a professor at the current position. His current research interests include realization and robust control of distributed parameter systems learning control sampled-data systems and digital signal processing. Dr. Yamamoto is a receipient of the Sawaragi memorial paper award (1985) the Outstanding Paper Award of SICE (1987) Best Author Award of SICE (1990) the George Axelby Outstanding Paper Award of IEEE CSS in 1996 Takeda Paper Prize of SICE in 1997. He is a Fellow of IEEE. He was an associate editor of Automatica. He is currently an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control Systems and Control Letters and Mathematics of Control Signals and Systems. He is a member of the IEEE the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE) and the Institute of Systems Control and Information Engineers.

This paper presents a design method of control systems such that a designer can flexibly take account of tradeoffs between evaluated uncertainty ranges and the level of control performance. The problem is reduced to a BMI problem and approximately solved by LMIs. The convergence of the proposed approximation is proved in a modified sense. A numerical example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method in comparison with the standard robust control.

In this article a multimedia computer-assisted learning (MCAL) system is presented. The major objective of this work was to investigate the potential of using such systems as tools for transferring instructional course information through various types of computer media as opposed to the classic CAL systems. The philosophy and techniques employed to design the system are investigated. Usage of the implemented system and its merits have been illustrated through its application to teach engineering students and technicians the theory and concepts of marine radar. System design, implementation, test, and revision phases are presented and discussed.

ROLE OF SIMULATION IN RAPID PROTOTYPING FOR CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

作者： KING, JF BARTON, DE J. Fred King:is the manager of the Advanced Technology Department for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston in 1977. He has been principal investigator of research projects in knowledge engineering pattern recognition and heuristic problem-solving. Efforts include the development of a multi-temporal multispectral classifier for identifying graincrops using LANDSAT satellite imagery data for NASA. Also as a member of the research team for a NCI study with Baylor College of Medicine and NASA he helped develop techniques for detection of carcinoma using multispectral microphotometer scans of lung tissue. He established and became technical director of the AI Laboratory for Ford Aerospace where he developed expert scheduling modeling and knowledge acquisition systems for NASA. Since joining Unisys in 1985 he has led the development of object-oriented programming environments blackboard architectures data fusion techniques using neural networks and intelligent data base systems. Douglas E. Barton:is manager of Logistics Information Systems for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his B.A. degree in computer science from the College of William and Mary in 1978 and did postgraduate work in London as a Drapers Company scholar. Since joining Unisys in 1981 his work has concentrated on program management and software engineering of large scale data base management systems and design and implementation of knowledge-based systems in planning and logistics. As chairman of the Logistics Data Subcommittee of the National Security Industrial Association (NSIA) he led an industry initiative which examined concepts in knowledge-based systems in military logistics. His responsibilities also include evaluation development and tailoring of software engineering standards and procedures for data base and knowledge-based systems. A valuable technique during concept development is rapid prototyping of software for key design components. This approach is particularly useful when the optimum design approach is not readily apparent or several known alternatives need to be rapidly evaluated. A problem inherent in rapid prototyping is the lack of a "target system" with which to interface. Some alternatives are to develop test driver libraries, integrate the prototype with an existing working simulator, or build one for the specific problem. This paper presents a unique approach to concept development using rapid prototyping for concept development and scenario-based simulation for concept verification. The rapid prototyping environment, derived from artificial intelligence technology, is based on a blackboard architecture. The rapid prototype simulation capability is provided through an object-oriented modeling environment. It is shown how both simulation and blackboard technologies are used collectively to rapidly gain insight into a tenacious problem. A specific example will be discussed where this approach was used to evolve the logic of a mission controller for an autonomous underwater vehicle.
