Multiagent systems have been proposed in the literature as a suitable architectural and implementation approach for cross-enterprise collaboration, due to their support for decentral decision-making and peer-to-peer coordination, loosely coupled interaction, modeling support for the notion of electronic institutions, and built-in adaptability mechanisms. While we agree with this general view, we argue that different application domain and different market constellations require different types of architecture. In this paper we look at the specific problem of selecting an information and communication technology (ICT) architecture for cross-enterprise business process (CBP) design and enactment. Therefore we identify three important architectural patterns for CBP enactment. We then propose a decision method for architecture selection based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach. Finally we illustrate the method by applying it to two application scenarios with differing characteristics. Robustness of the decision method is analyzed by performing a sensitivity analysis.

Efficient business processes are key to economic success. With the need to frequently adapt or restructure business processes and workflows in a dynamic market, agile processes and (semi-)automatic workflow and process composition would be useful. Currently, this is a manual and time-consuming task. Automating and optimizing this task is of high interest in research communities. Nevertheless, the orientation differs: Some focus on semantic web services, others on Grid workflows or concentrate on business process management. In this paper we present a survey of available workflow annotation and composition approaches in all of these areas. We additionally categorize and compare them and describe future work.

The development of web services and especially semantic web services is a tremendous task for people who are not familiar with all language constructs. Especially with the growing mass of several semantic web service approaches a language-independent service development is needed. This gap can be filled by using model-driven software development. Therefore, in this paper we introduce a meta-model for semantic web services and show the benefits of automatic code generation on the basis of a small example.

This paper presents a design method of control systems such that a designer can flexibly take account of tradeoffs between evaluated uncertainty ranges and the level of control performance. The problem is reduced to a BMI problem and approximately solved by LMIs. The convergence of the proposed approximation is proved in a modified sense. A numerical example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method in comparison with the standard robust control.

Like in automotive and other production oriented domains industrialization was the key issue for reducing production costs and bein competitive. However software is still developed mainly from scratch in a labour intensive way. In order to be competitive with e.g. low-wage countries the software development process has to be industrialized and automated. The model-driven software development approach as well as Semantic Web technologies can help to support such software industrialization. Therefore in this position paper we will set up a vision and give concrete examples how semantic enabled software development can look like and give a first architecture of a development environment supporting this vision.

Our approach to the model-driven collaborative design of workflows for bioinformatic applications uses the jABC for model driven mediation and choreography to complement a Web service-based elementary service provision. jABC is a framework for service development based on lightweight process coordination. Users (product developers and system/software designers) develop services and applications by composing reusable building-blocks into (flow-)graph structures that can be animated, analyzed, simulated, verified, executed, and compiled. This way of handling the collaborative design of complex processes has proven to be effective and adequate for the cooperation of non-programmers (in this case biologists) and technical people, and it is now being rolled out in the operative practice

We propose an aggressive version of model-driven development (AMDD) 1, which moves most of the recurring problems of compatibility and consistency of software (mass-) construction and customization from the coding and integration level to the modelling level. AMDD requires a complex preparation of adequate settings, supporting the required automation. However, the effort to create these settings can be easily paid off by immense cost reductions in software mass-construction and maintenance. In fact, besides reducing the costs, AMDD will also lead towards a kind of normed software development, making software engineering a true engineering activity.

Business process modeling (BPM) is one of the key factors in defining service-oriented solutions for business collaborations. Like in traditional software engineering there is a need for adaptable methodologies to develop information and communication technology (ICT) systems supporting collaborative business processes. In this work we introduce a categorization for the classification of modeling languages and approaches used to model collaborative business processes. Considering an example, we show how the classification of modeling languages and approaches facilitates the development of methodologies for collaborative business processes.

With MaTRICS, we describe an architecture for pervasive management of distributedsystems. It allows remotely connected users (e.g., system administrators) to modify the configuration of any service provided by a specific (application) server, like email-, news- or Web-servers. Novel to our approach is that the system can manage configuration processes on heterogeneous software- and hardware- platforms, which are performed from a variety of peripherals unmatched in today's practice. In this sense, we realize a sort of pervasive system management, where devices like mobile phones, faxes, PDAs are enabled to be used by system managers as remote system configuration and management tools.
