The demand of deploying information has enormously increased within the last decade. Numerous distributed computing service suppliers have emerged (for eg., Microsoft Azure, Dropbox) in order to satisfy the requirements for information repository and high performance computation. The customers using the cloud repository services can conveniently arrange as a cluster and distribute information among themselves. Information proprietor computes the signatures for every chunk and deploys in the distributed server in order to allow the public verifier to perform public integrity verification on the information stored on the cloud server. In Panda scheme [1], by using the proxy re-signatures, Cloud Service Provider (CSP) verifies and re-signs the revoked customer chunks in favor of the existing customers. The malicious CSP might use the Resign key deliberately to transform the signature of one customer to another. Apart from this, conspiracy amidst the mischievous cloud server and the repudiated customer reveals the private key information of the customers present in the cluster. We propose Secure Auditing and Re-signing of Revoked Customer Chunks by Cloud Using Regression Method. Re-key computed by the information proprietor using regression method is highly secure and the mischievious cloud cannot detect the private information of the customers in the cluster. Our mechanism is collusion resistant, reduces computation cost of re-sign key by information proprietor and in addition CSP securely performs auditing and re-signing of repudiated customer chunks.

Research software has become a central asset in academic research. It optimizes existing and enables new research methods, implements and embeds research knowledge, and constitutes an essential research product in itself. Research software must be sustainable in order to understand, replicate, reproduce, and build upon existing research or conduct new research effectively. In other words, software must be available, discoverable, usable, and adaptable to new needs, both now and in the future. Research software therefore requires an environment that supports sustainability. Hence, a change is needed in the way research software development and maintenance are currently motivated, incentivized, funded, structurally and infrastructurally supported, and legally treated. Failing to do so will threaten the quality and validity of research. In this paper, we identify challenges for research software sustainability in Germany and beyond, in terms of motivation, selection, research software engineering personnel, funding, infrastructure, and legal aspects. Besides researchers, we specifically address political and academic decision-makers to increase awareness of the importance and needs of sustainable research software practices. In particular, we recommend strategies and measures to create an environment for sustainable research software, with the ultimate goal to ensure that software-driven research is valid, reproducible and sustainable, and that software is recognized as a first class citizen in research. This paper is the outcome of two workshops run in Germany in 2019, at deRSE19 - the first International Conference of Research Software Engineers in Germany - and a dedicated DFG-supported follow-up workshop in Berlin. Qualitative assessment of recurrent human motion

Smartphone applications designed to track human motion in combination with wearable sensors, e.g., during physical exercising, raised huge attention recently. Commonly, they provide quantitative services, such as personalized training instructions or the counting of distances. But qualitative monitoring and assessment is still missing, e.g., to detect malpositions, to prevent injuries, or to optimize training success. We address this issue by presenting a concept for qualitative as well as generic assessment of recurrent human motion by processing multi-dimensional, continuous time series tracked with motion sensors. Therefore, our segmentation procedure extracts individual events of specific length and we propose expressive features to accomplish a qualitative motion assessment by supervised classification. We verified our approach within a comprehensive study encompassing 27 athletes undertaking different body weight exercises. We are able to recognize six different exercise types with a success rate of 100% and to assess them qualitatively with an average success rate of 99.3%. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. Research questions in biodiversity are as diverse and heterogeneous as data are. Most metadata standards are mainly data-focused and pay little attention to the search perspective. In this work, we introduce a method to analyze the actual information need of biodiversity scholars based on two individual studies: (1) a series of workshops with domain experts and (2) an analysis of research and search questions collected in three different biodiversity projects. We finally present 12 high-level entities that appear in all kinds of biological data across the different sources evaluated.

The great success of wearables and smartphone apps for provision of extensive physical workout instructions boosts a whole industry dealing with consumer oriented sensors and sports equipment. But with these opportunities there are also new challenges emerging. The unregulated distribution of instructions about ambitious exercises enables unexperienced users to undertake demanding workouts without professional supervision which may lead to suboptimal training success or even serious injuries. We believe, that automated supervision and realtime feedback during a workout may help to solve these issues. Therefore we introduce four fundamental steps for complex human motion assessment and present SensX, a sensor-based architecture for monitoring, recording, and analyzing complex and multi-dimensional motion chains. We provide the results of our preliminary study encompassing 8 different body weight exercises, 20 participants, and more than 9,220 recorded exercise repetitions. Furthermore, insights into SensXs classification capabilities and the impact of specific sensor configurations onto the analysis process are given. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. Mutual usage of vehicles as well as car sharing became more and more attractive during the last years. Especially in urban environments with limited parking possibilities and a higher risk for traffic jams, car rentals and sharing services may save time and money. But when renting a vehicle it could already be damaged (e.g., scratches or bumps inflicted by a previous user) without the damage being perceived by the service provider. In order to address such problems, we present an automated, motion-based system for impact detection, that facilitates a common smartphone as a sensor platform. The system is capable of detecting the impact segment and the point of time of an impact event on a vehicle's surface, as well as its direction of origin. With this additional specific knowledge, it may be possible to reconstruct the circumstances of an impact event, e.g., to prove possible innocence of a service's customer. distributed Complex Event Processing (DCEP) is a paradigm to infer the occurrence of complex situations in the surrounding world from basic events like sensor readings. In doing so, DCEP operators detect event patterns on their incoming event streams. To yield high operator throughput, data parallelization frameworks divide the incoming event streams of an operator into overlapping windows that are processed in parallel by a number of operator instances. In doing so, the basic assumption is that the different windows can be processed independently from each other. However, consumption policies enforce that events can only be part of one pattern instance;then, they are consumed, i.e., removed from further pattern detection. That implies that the constituent events of a pattern instance detected in one window are excluded from all other windows as well, which breaks the data parallelism between different windows. In this paper, we tackle this problem by means of speculation: Based on the likelihood of an event's consumption in a window, subsequent windows may speculatively suppress that event. We propose the SPECTRE framework for speculative processing of multiple dependent windows in parallel. Our evaluations show an up to linear scalability of SPECTRE with the number of CPU cores. While hardware transactional memory (HTM) has recently been adopted to construct efficient concurrent search tree structures, such designs fail to deliver scalable performance under contention. In this paper, we first conduct a detailed analysis on an HTM-based concurrent B+Tree, which uncovers several reasons for excessive HTM aborts induced by both false and true conflicts under contention. Based on the analysis, we advocate Eunomia, a design pattern for search trees which contains several principles to reduce HTM aborts, including splitting HTM regions with version-based concurrency control to reduce HTM working sets, partitioned data layout to reduce false conflicts, proactively detecting and avoiding true conflicts, and adaptive concurrency control. To validate their effectiveness, we apply such designs to construct a scalable concurrent B+Tree using HTM. Evaluation using key-value store benchmarks on a 20-core HTM-capable multi-core machine shows that Eunomia leads to 5X-11X speedup under high contention, while incurring small overhead under low contention. © 2017 ACM.

Given a synchronous system, we study the question whether - or, under which conditions - the behaviour of that system can be realized by a (non-trivially) distributed and hence asynchronous implementation. In this paper, we partially answer this question by examining the role of causality for the implementation of synchrony in two fundamental different formalisms of concurrency, Petri nets and the π-calculus. For both formalisms it turns out that each 'good' encoding of synchronous interactions using just asynchronous interactions introduces causal dependencies in the translation. © Cambridge University Press 2014.
