Modularization is associated with various project benefits including cost savings, schedule reduction, improved quality, among others. However, successful implementation of modular projects requires early collaboration and proactive management of various associated risks. Both project communication structures and early engagement of all project stakeholders have a great impact on risk mitigation efficiency in modular construction. The goal of this paper is to study the stakeholders' contribution in risk control of modular construction projects under different delivery methods. To this end, the authors followed a multistep methodology including (1) literature analysis to assign 17 modular risks among the various project stakeholders;(2) Monte-Carlo simulation to valuate risk control contribution associated with each stakeholder and their subset coalitions;and (3) cooperative game theory to compute the risk control contribution of each stakeholder under three different delivery methods including design-bid-build (DBB), design-build (DB), and integrated project delivery (IPD). The findings show that suppliers and contractors have the highest contribution in risk control when compared to owners and designers. Furthermore, the results indicated that IPD increases risk control capacity of contractors and subcontractors due to the ability for open communication between owner, designer, and contractor with the modular suppliers or subcontractors. Ultimately, this paper contributes to the body of knowledge by offering an unprecedented framework that captures the impact of delivery methods on risk control capabilities of stakeholders in modular construction projects. © 2024 Computing in civil engineering 2023: Visualization, Information Modeling, and Simulation - Selected Papers from the ASCE International Conference on Computing in civil engineering 2023. The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic made a perceptible impact on daily travel behaviourworldwide,especially through mode shifts and changes in trip frequencieswith possible long-term ***-therapeutic interventions adoptedworldwide(*** and travel restrictions)to reduce viral contagion need to be understood holistically because it is challenging for people to followthrough these policies and stay home in developing *** this context,it is important to have a clear idea of howCOVID-19 is shaping the mobility pattern and what policies must be taken(if not yet)to minimize viral transmission as well as develop a sustainable transportation *** this end,this study presents a systematically analysed review of 56 international literatures from academic sources(Google Scholar,Scopus and Web of Science)on the impacts of COVID-19 on travel behaviour and focuses on policymaking *** article illustrates the modal shift,variation in frequencies of different trips and how sociodemographic characteristics have influenced the mobility pattern in response to *** changes in travel patterns compared to the pre-COVID-19 era were observed.A noticeable apprehension on viral transmission in public transit has reduced public transit usage while increasing that of private *** poses challenges to develop sustainable *** study concludes by discussing intervention measures to support transportation planners and policymakers to deal with the current pandemic as well as any future pandemics.

This study presents the assessment of groundwater potential and its recharge areas in marginal alluvial and hard rock areas of the Trans-Yamuna region of Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Nine pivotal thematic layers under the geomorphological and hydrogeological categories have been considered for study. The weight of each layer was determined using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The process involved assigning weights to various factors in ArcGIS, such as soil type, land use/land cover, and slope, which were deemed to influence groundwater potential and recharge characteristics. The outcome demonstrate that the ‘very high’ potential area covers around 18.38% (550 km²), ‘high’ potential area covers 35.20% (1053 km²), ‘medium’ potential area covers 31.09% (930 km²), ‘low’ potential area covers 11.93% (357 km²). However, 3.37% (101 km²) falls under ‘very low’ potential area. Similarly, recharge areas categorized as “very high” (302.63 km²), “high” (875.96 km²), “moderate” (950.22 km²), “low” (651.37 km²), and “very low” (210.83 km²). The northern region is less suitable for recharging due to geological settings. Findings were validated with the actual yield data collected and accuracy was approximately 71%. These valuable insights can be utilized for better decision-making processes related to the utilization and conservation of groundwater in the specified region. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Shiraz University 2025.

This study aims to investigate the effects of using scientific educational games in teaching on Technical university of Kosice, Faculty of civil engineering on students' academic achievement and retention of knowledge. The study also assessed students' perceptions of these educational games. the study group for the subject Controlling in construction consists of a total of 27 students, of which 4 are part-time students and 23 are full-time students. Controlling is one of the subjects taught at the engineering degree in the last year of study. The implementation of the study consisted of the preparation of a new teaching concept of Controlling in the construction industry with the implementation of educational games. The finished draft of the concept was presented at the beginning of the Controlling subject, right after the presentation of the standard used teaching style. After the discussion, a survey was created in the form of a questionnaire, which consisted of 15 questions with options. Each student answered individually. Based on the answers from the questionnaire, several interesting evaluations of teaching at the Faculty of civil engineering of the Technical University in Kosice were obtained. The results indicated that educational games improve motivation, interest and are an effective tool in providing retention of new knowledge. Students described educational games as informative, fun, and reinforcing in their learning, and reported that they were motivating and engaging in the classroom. © 2023 IEEE.

Currently, Q370qENH weathering steel has a wide application in uncoated railway steel bridges due to its satisfactory atmospheric corrosion resistance, low conservation cost, and good mechanical properties. However, the research on the corrosion characteristics of Q370qENH in uncoated weathering steel bridges is limited. This study investigated the outdoor and indoor corrosion behavior of Q370qENH through atmospheric corrosion test and wet-dry salt spray corrosion test. First, the corrosion acceleration model of the two corrosion methods was obtained by the loss-weight method, and the correlation between them was analyzed. Moreover, the Q370qENH corrosion prediction model was determined. Finally, the rust layer characterizations under different corrosion times were analyzed by SEM. The experiment and analysis results show that the wet-dry salt spray corrosion test shortens the testing time of simulating and assessing the corrosion behavior of weathering steels in the atmosphere. The outer rusting layer is loose and primarily composed of γ–FeOOH, and the inner rusting layer is stable and dense, principally containing α–FeOOH. This study can provide a reference for the design of uncoated weathering steel bridges. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Identification of the size and depth of underground cavities is essential for assessing underground hazards. This study proposes a deep learning-based inversion model that combines CycleGAN and U-Net models to identify underground cavities. First, CycleGAN is used to convert measured data into pseudo-simulated data, enhancing the visibility of cavity-related features in the images. U-Net is then employed for hyperbolic image segmentation, extracting detailed information about the upper and lower boundaries of the cavities. Based on the segmentation results, geometric parameters such as the central depth and radius are calculated, enabling accurate inversion of underground cavity characteristics. The model is validated using radar data obtained from laboratory experiments. The results show that the proposed method can accurately identify the depth and size of cavities. In addition, CycleGAN effectively transforms radar images into feature-enhanced representations, facilitating the detection of underground cavities. © The Authors.

Manganese dioxide(MnO_(2)), a commonly find oxidant in both natural environment and industrial application, plays a crucial role for various organic compound degradation. Tuning the MnO_(2) crystal structure is a cost-effective strategy to boost the oxidation reactions, where the challenge remains due to lacking indepth investigation of the crystal properties. Herein, MnO_(2) with different crystalline structures(x-MnO_(2))including α-, β-and δ-was prepared through the hydrothermal synthesis for a typical organic pollutant removal. The structural and degradation analysis indicated that the oxidation capacity was originated from Mn^(3+) and oxygen vacancies(OVs). The intrinsic relationships between oxidation performance and other physiochemical properties such as morphology and electrochemistry were thoroughly discussed,and positive correlations between oxidation capacity and electrochemical properties were found which eventually led to excellent oxidation performance via modulating the above-mentioned properties. Moreover, the K^(+) content was determined to be the most crucial role in manipulating the structure *** work offers a crystal-level insight into the relationship between the crystal structure and oxidative property, promoting rational design of highly efficient oxidant.

Incorporating Tomographic Static Correction in the Seismic Processing of a CBM Reservoir with Complex Surface Conditions

The first step in processing the determination of near-surface velocity structures is critical. In addition to improper static adjustments, a poor near-surface velocity model causes the rays predicted by the model to deviate from their actual ray paths. Due to the cumulative nature of this ray path deviation, even a small error in the near-surface velocity model can result in momentous errors in calculating the ray path and travel time. Furthermore, the deviation can notably degrade the seismic image at depth, particularly in regions with significant lateral velocity variations. A seismic model with significant lateral velocity variations and bare bedrock was built to perform theoretical calculations. The concept of first arrival tomographic static correction was also examined. Numerical simulation techniques were used to study the conditions and application consequences of the first arrival tomographic static correction, providing a reference for the static correction of challenging surface coal bed methane (CBM) seismic data. The findings demonstrate that tomographic static correction is better suited for processing complicated surface CBM seismic data and can effectively handle the problems of surface undulation and lateral velocity fluctuation, which are critical for improving the accuracy of CBM exploration. © 2024 Society of Exploration Geophysicists, Inc.
