Several methods exist for design management such as Agile project management, the Last Planner System®, and configuration in diverse variants. construction can be realized using different degrees of pre-engineering i.e. different production strategies, which can affect the design management method. The research aim is to describe different design management methods and discuss their capacity to function in existing production strategies in construction. Data was collected as secondary data from earlier publications on Agile project management, the Last Planner® system, configuration, and visual planning. Agile project management has a strong focus on customer value and lends itself well to situations with little pre-engineering. The Last Planner System® in design has a strong focus on the co-creation of flow and coordination of actions. In industrialised housing a dialect of Last Planner System® named KI-VP is implemented drawing upon predefinition of design tasks through standardized work. Configuration is the ultimate predefined design stage, where everything can be automated based on product variants.

The paper presents an overview of the studies of Russian and foreign scientists exploring the issues of reliable operation of trunk pipelines transporting oil and gas. It is found that subsea pipeline networks pose a greater danger in terms of their functional failures and environmental effects and appear more prone to stress corrosion cracking. Certain materials and technologies are brought into focus to demonstrate that their use allows curbing the environmental expansion or ensures the reliable operation of oil and gas pipelines. It is noted that one of the most promising methods for reconstruction and overhaul of trunk pipelines provide for the application of composite materials to the internal surface of a damaged pipes. The appropriate formulation of composite materials depends on the condition of the internal pipeline cavity. Also, there are scientific breakthroughs which may serve to reduce corrosion activity of clayey soils. Stress is laid on the importance of innovations in the development of technologies and materials ensuring the maintenance of ecological balance in the areas where oil and gas transmission networks operate.

This study investigated the durability of recycled lime-fly ash treated aggregates (RTA) as pavement base and sub-base layers. First, the both the physical and chemical properties of the waste lime-fly ash treated aggregate (WTA) materials were tested. Then, RTA were designed according to the specifications and further examined for its long-term durability properties including shrinkage, freeze-thaw, fatigue and permeability. The RTA investigated were actually cement-stabilized RTA, a stabilized blend of 70% WTA and 30% virgin aggregates for base layer, and a stabilized 100% WTA for sub-base layer, respectively. Test results were as follows: 1) WTA particle surfaces were becoming rougher as the size of the particles decreased, which was closely related to the degree of shrinkages of the RTA. 2) Both the value of moisture shrinkage and the weight of water loss of RTA increased as the curing time of RTA increased, indicating the contribution of the weight loss to the shrinkage of the RTA. 3) The total thermal shrinkage increased as temperature decreased although its rate of increase decreased for every temperature increment. 4) Overall, the fatigue life of RTA was short, indicting its structure was closer to that of suspension dense type.

construction is ripe with examples of cost overrun. Practice is rich on systematic reductions in functionality and ways to avoid scope and cost creep. But research on such systematic reductions are rare. An emerging research literature on reverse innovation propose ways to understand this. Emerging third world markets triggered a geographically oriented notion of reverse innovation. However, second generation conceptualizations include reverse innovation reducing functionality, cost and pricing, and adding new values addressing clients in a new way. Most reverse innovation examples are simple consumer products, but in building, with its complex products, to conceptualize processes and practices of reverse innovation is promising access to new markets. The aim is to explore a conceptualization of reverse innovation of complex built products and gather insights of reverse innovation processes from cases. They exhibit different features and processes, reduction strategies with departure at an (imagined) high end product, appear to be recurrent in construction. Once faced with a potential, estimated cost overrun some designers would follow an ad hoc strategy of reduction in functionality until the cost target is reached. However proactive strategies, such as innovative substitution, offshoring of design work, shift of suppliers, and global sourcing are possible.

The test section of Changzhou North Railway Station of Rail Transit Line 1 is taken as the engineering background. It is before the shield tunnel passes through the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway. With software of PLAXIS 3D, the numerical simulation on surface deformation is conducted considering the influence of shield tunnelling, based on the M-C. HS and HSS model. The calculated results of the three models are compared with the monitoring data. It is shown that the HSS model is optimal. In addition, the applicability of 0.5% and 0.8% for the loss rate of shield tunnelling in Changzhou is studied. It is reasonable to adopt 0.5% stratum loss rate for general shield tunnel conditions. But, sometimes in order to consider the special conditions such as deviation rectification construction, stratum loss rate should be set at 0.8%.

The bridges being built with shorter sections, which is popularly called as segmental bridges, are constructed in very few numbers in India. These bridges take a major play in connecting places which cover a long distance that cannot be reached as easy as other land masses or water bodies. The mattering much factor in the construction of segmental bridges is its method of construction involving cast-in-place or precast structures. The construction procedure is repetitive which makes it an easy and swift way of constructing a bridge. This paper proffers the design of a segmental bridge which is proposed to be constructed in India. The design outfit is also almost matching with the feasibility. It is approved that the dead load and live load is under the standards provided. So this types of bridges can be preferred for its strength aspects and its durability in longer run.

The exploitation of shale gas has always been a major problem, and the solution to this problem must start with the study of its nature. A kind of simulation device and monitoring method of mud shale cracking was designed and assembled by ourselves. First of all, made with two layers of the general principle and four layers of 60 ° prefabricated crack two groups of similar material sample of the shale, then in turn for each block of multistage hydraulic fracturing test, and the use of strain gauge for strain monitoring. Results show that under the condition of no native prefabricated crack, hydraulic direction tend to toward weak bedding plane direction of crack extension until she reached the weak bedding surface, and then the main cracks along the weak bedding surface directly, at the same time there are prefabricated crack in native and weak stratification plane, in stage and the area between the prefabricated crack priority area map cracking formation, the results for the exploitation of shale gas has important guiding significance.

Most simulation games that exist are targeted towards experiencing and reflecting on Lean principles such as tact time, pull, Kanban, continuous improvements etc. The design phase in construction is characterised by information not being available, iterative work, specialized work tasks, and high uncertainty. The research aim is to develop and test a design simulation game that explains the design principles: lack of information, iterative work, and specialized work in order to let inexperienced people experience and reflect (ER) on the design phase. The method to develop the ER design game was to alter an already existing production sequence simulation game developed to illustrate one-piece flow. Action cards were entered into the game, changing work tasks and their sequencing as the game progressed. The ER design game demonstrates the difficulties in characterising and improving the design flow, but it does not show any methods to improve it. Lack of information, iterative work, specialized work, stop-start effects, and tact time issues all surfaced during playing the ER design game. The time frame for the game set was 45 minutes, which makes it feasible to incorporate in Lean method training.

The construction industry is under increasing pressure to reduce costs and improve environment quality. The construction and demolition waste management (CDWM) is a serious contender to achieve these two goals. Countries have provided legislation and professional associations and large companies have issued rules and guidelines to efficiently dismantle and organize the evacuation of these materials, especially addressing hazardous waste. A large focus in the literature on CDWM has been on minimization of waste, but less attention has been given to practices of how to minimize waste or how to manage CDW during the construction process. In order to gain an understanding of CDW during the construction process and on the building site we have performed a systematic literature review. Our goal is to identify and document the actual topics and debates related to CDWM, avoid to repeat already existing results and uncover less researched issues or topics. To do so we built on a systematic literature review on CDWM. Our initial search had 628 articles on CDW and CDW management. Through multiple selection procedures we ended up with 100 articles published in 21 scientific journals listed on Web of Science since 2010. We focus on articles referring directly to the building site as well as the management of CDW. We systematically organize the review according to the following criteria: topic, discipline, contribution, method, theory, and audience. The preliminary results show a large production of materials analyses, LCA assessment and performance, optimization of process models and economic comparison. The actual practices on the building site and the related management issues however are largely ignored by this academic production justifying that it may be worth studying these in the future.
