The masonry structure is one of the main types of modern industrial buildings in China because of its local materials and simple economy. However, these buildings often suffer damage and cracks due to uneven settlement of the foundation and disrepair, which affects the safe and normal use of the structure. It is urgent to maintain and strengthen the structure to restore the safety of the structure. This paper takes Baoji Shenxin Yarn Factory - Kiln Factory as the actual engineering background, and use the finite element software ABAQUS based on Winkler's theory to establish a finite element calculation model that can more conveniently respond to the effects of different foundation settlements. Through the simulation analysis, the influence law of the local settlement of the kiln foundation on the overall structural force state was obtained, which can provide an important reference basis for the maintenance and reinforcement of the structure. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. The seismic damage to ancillary facilities on high-speed railway(HSR)bridges can affect the normal movement of *** propose the bridge deck acceleration response spectra of the typical HSR simply-supported girder bridge for simplifying the seismic responses analysis of the facilities on bridges,the finite element models of the HSR multi-span simply-supported girder bridges with CRTSII track were established,and the numerical model was validated by ***,the effects of the span number,peak ground acceleration(PGA),pier height on the seismic acceleration and response spectra of the bridge deck were ***,the bridge acceleration amplification factor curves and bridge deck response spectra with different PGAs and pier heights were *** formula for bridge deck acceleration amplification factor,with a 95%guarantee rate,was ***,the finite element models of the overhead contact lines(OCL)mounted on rigid base and bridges were established to validate the fitted *** results indicated that the maximum seismic acceleration response is in the midspan of the *** proposed formula for the bridge deck acceleration response spectra can be used to analyze the earthquake response of the OCL and other ancillary facilities on HSR simply-supported girder *** bridge deck acceleration response spectra are conservative in terms of structural safety and can significantly improving the analysis efficiency.

The idea of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) offers a systematic and holistic framework to promote the sustainability of major infrastructure projects (MIPs) within the worldwide sustainable development agenda. However, how different stakeholders of MIPs engage in ESG considerations to advance sustainable development remains unexplored. This study provides a critical review to map and elucidate the correlation between ESG indicators and stakeholder engagement throughout the lifecycle of MIPs. Through an in-depth literature review of 20 articles, a total of 26 key ESG indicators that impact the sustainability of MIPs were identified. Subsequently, three relationship diagrams were constructed to illustrate the interplay between ESG indicators and stakeholder engagement across project planning, design, construction, and operation stages. The findings provide valuable insights for future research endeavors and management practices on promoting sustainable infrastructure, highlighting the importance of aligning diverse stakeholder interests on ESG for infrastructure development and operation. © ASCE.

Many historic buildings are of masonry construction. Existing masonry walls may be required an opening when the building usage is changed. A police station, for example, was turned into a museum. To provide constant temperature and humidity for treasures, the brick walls were required openings for air conditioning pipelines. In order to protect the corners of the opening wall from cracking due to stress concentration, a retrofitted scheme using two steel frames with L-shaped sections was proposed. The two steel frames were installed along the edges of the openings. High-strength bolts were anchored through the steel plates and brick walls. The study conducted cyclic loading tests in the laboratory of National Center for Research on Earthquake engineering to verify the retrofit effects. Two specimens were fabricated in the experiment, namely brick-filled RC frame with openings, and brick-filled RC frame with openings retrofitted by steel frames. Experimental studies indicate that the proposed retrofitting scheme can perform very good seismic behavior, even better than that of brick walls without openings. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

With the development of global urbanization,the utilization of underground space is more critical and attractive for civil *** shapes of shield tunnels have been gradually proposed to cope with different geological conditions and service purposes of underground ***,reducing the burial depth of shield tunnel is conducive to construction and cost ***,extremely small overburden depth cannot provide sufficient uplift resistance to maintain the stability and serviceability of the *** this end,this paper firstly reviewed the status of deriving the minimum sand over-burden depth of circular shield tunnel using mechanical equilibrium(ME)*** revealed that the estimated depth is rather ***,the uplift resistance mechanism of both circular and rectangular tunnels was deduced theoretically and verified with the model *** theoretical uplift resistance is consistent with the experimental values,indicating the feasibility of the proposed ***,the determination of the minimum soil overburden depth of rectangular shield tunnel under various working conditions was presented through integrated ME method,which can provide more reasonable estimations of suggested tunnel burial depth for practical ***,optimizations were made for calculating the uplift resistance,and the soil thickness providing uplift resistance is suggested to be adjusted according to the testing *** results can provide reference for the design and construction of various shapes of shield tunnels in urban underground space exploitation.

Hysteretic behavior of post-tensioned precast segmental CFT double-column piers

Considering the desirable behavior of concrete filled steel tube(CFT)columns and the complicated behavior of segmental double-column piers under cyclic loads,three post-tensioned precast segmental CFT double-column pier specimens were tested to extend their application in moderate and high seismicity *** effects of the number of CFT segments and the steel endplates as energy dissipaters on the seismic behavior of the piers were *** experimental results show that the segmental piers exhibited stable hysteretic behavior with small residual displacements under cyclic *** the tested specimens achieved a drift ratio no less than 13%without significant damage and strength deterioration due to the desirable behavior of CFT *** the deformation of segmental columns was mainly concentrated at the column-footing interfaces,the increase of the segment numbers for each column had no obvious effects on the loading capacity but reduced the initial stiffness of the *** use of steel endplates improved the bearing capacity,stiffness and energy dissipation of segmental piers,but weakened their self-centering *** models were also proposed to simulate the hysteretic behavior of the tested specimens,and the influences of segment numbers and prestress levels on seismic behavior were further studied.

All Free-form architecture has novel and unique shapes, complex and diverse changes, and has become the trend of modern architectural development with its rich shape changes and soft lines. The traditional grid layout method is not applicable to the grid division of free-form surfaces, and how to divide a smooth and beautiful grid is a hot research problem for large-span spatial structures. In response to the above problems, after investigating the current scientific research results at home and abroad, our team proposes a meshing method using the 3D software Rhino platform to solve the problems of uneven meshing of free-form surfaces and low intelligence, and to divide a smooth and beautiful mesh. © 2023 Institute of Physics Publishing. The high vacuum densification method has shown promise in treating soft soil foundations in coastal areas. This study evaluated its effectiveness using finite element analysis software PLAXIS. The results revealed that soil displacement decreased with depth after treatment, affecting only the soft soil layer. Maximum vertical displacement at the subgrade surface was 0.73m, while the soft soil displaced 0.097m. Excess pore water pressure varied more on the top surface but reached equilibrium similarly. After dynamic compaction, bottom layer pressure did not fully dissipate, while the top layer dissipated entirely. This study provides insights into the method's application in coastal regions, informing engineering practice and future research. © 2024 The Authors.

Bacterial Solution in GGBS Concrete: A Sustainable Approach to Improving Properties

This research aimed to investigate the impacts of integrating a Bacillus cereus solution containing bacteria at optimal GGBS usage rates, with a portion of the cement substituted by GGBS. To manufacture M25 grade concrete, four distinct quantities of GGBS were employed as a substitute for cement: 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Three distinct bacterial concentrations were employed to generate the bacterial solution: 10³, 10⁵, and 10⁸ cells/ml. Concrete that was augmented with a bacterial solution performed better mechanically than concrete that was made entirely of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS), according to the study. Additionally, water absorption was measured under both circumstances. The samples M10 demonstrated a sharp increase in the strength of around 12.88, 6.73 and 10.58% in compressive, flexural and split tensile strength as compared standard concrete at the age of 56 days. Mechanical strength was found to decrease as the GGBS percentage surpassed 10%. At a bacterial concentration of 10⁵ cells/ml and a 10% substitution of cement with GGBS, the peak flexural, split tensile, and compressive strengths achieved were 6.6 MPa, 3.08 MPa, and 46.69 MPa, respectively. The pattern of water absorption decreasing as bacterial concentration increased was also seen. The correlation analysis revealed a substantial association between compressive strength and water absorption. For the bacterial solution samples, the R² value was 0.8338, whereas for the GGBS samples it was 0.9044. Additionally, a dependable predictive association was found between compressive strength and UPV, with R² values of 0.8443 for GGBS samples and 0.7376 for samples containing bacteria, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Shiraz University 2025.

The world around us is technologically advanced every day. With increasing urbanization and the growth of smart cities, large countries around the world began to pay more and more attention to the implementation of innovations in their processes. construction is one of the important branches of the economy. Innovative technologies are increasingly used in the planning and management of construction production. Currently, in many countries, there is a change and design of new standards and legislative frameworks that reflect the needs of the 21st century and directly support the transition of industry to Industry 4.0. It is innovative technologies, such as Building Information Modelling, that make it possible to eliminate losses and problems resulting from planning, management and control of individual processes. Innovative technologies help to efficiently and promptly plan and manage individual processes. The paper provides a brief overview of Building Information Modelling tools such as CDE - Common Data Environment, IFC - Industry Foundation Classes, MVD - Model View Definition, BCF format - BIM Collaboration Format, buildingSMART Data Dictionary, BEP - BIM Execution Plan and BIM Library. Within the contribution, individual BIM tools are defined and analyzed, which will be gradually implemented in the processes of construction permits in the territory of the Slovak Republic, and their advantages and barriers will be pointed out. © 2023 IEEE.
