The assessment and strengthening method of existing reinforced concrete buildings in terms of seismic responses have been highly important for the past decades especially buildings with soft-story mechanism which are found to be more vulnerable. Several strengthening techniques have been proposed including Fibre Reinforced Polymer and steel jacket of RC column elements. This paper aims to evaluate the effectiveness of two strengthening techniques with variability of soft-story under severe earthquake excitations. Five-story RC building is investigated and non-linear dynamic analysis is performed to capture the inelastic responses of the structure. Four sets of ground motion are selected and matched with target response spectrum for Aceh earthquake. Seismic responses of the considered models and strengthening techniques are compared.

For contradiction and complexity of wind environment variables of coastal cities and difficulties in the quantitative research of urban spatial form, the multi-variable analysis technology is flexibly used to explore the feasible technical approach and coupling mechanism for the integration of coastal urban spatial form and the mesoscale wind environment system. The mechanism of influence of changes of coastal urban spatial form on wind environment is summarized, and the energy balance mode based on mesoscale wind environment nested with the urban boundary layer combining with the underlying surface of cities is studied, so as to make strategies for the response by urban spatial form to urban wind environment, simulate and analyze the response characteristics of urban heat island, local wind and pollution diffusion under different scenarios, and determine the feasible scheme of urban spatial form combined with demands for the development of social economy. With the combination of satellite remote sensing and ground monitoring, related parameters are collected, and simulated and calculated with CFD. After a conclusion is drawn through the multi-variable analysis the large wind tunnel laboratory model is used for verification. Further R&D can optimize the spatial form guidance system software for wind environment of coastal cities. This study will help to actively adjust urban wind environment through space guidance;provide reference for air pollution prevention and control, typhoon prevention and mitigation, urban energy saving and emission reduction and other hot research issues caused by the high-speed development of coastal cities in China;and respond to the government's call for the construction of new smart cities.

The aim of this research was to determine experimentally the mechanical resistance of preset ventilated facade systems exposed to wind suction. In accordance with the European ETAG 034 Guideline, Part 1, seven facade assemblies were tested. The wind suction load was simulated in a vacuum test in the AdMaS centre using the universal vacuum loading system. The test was performed with a load increasing in increments, where after each level, the specimens were unloaded. The effect of the density of connections of load-bearing plates with the structure of subframes was demonstrated. Further, the resistance to wind suction of specimens with timber subframe was slightly higher than that of specimens with aluminium subframe.

This research focuses on the tenants' temporal relocation or stay in the home during renovation works and the property owners' possibility to refurbish with intense and global interventions. The study compares two renovation strategies applied in two residential neighbourhoods in Gothenburg, Sweden, built between the 1950s and 1960s. In one neighbourhood, the tenants stayed in their homes during the renovation works, and in the other neighbourhood, the tenants were relocated to other buildings for over six months. Retrofitting interventions, investment costs, rent increase, time periods and the constructive processes are considered for each renovation strategy, as well as the impressions of the tenants and property owner entities in each neighbourhood were collected. The results compare, through a report on the affordability and effectiveness, the pros and cons of a relocation or non-relocation strategy. This research offers a real and experimental comparison that reach to political, architectural, social and economic conclusions to facilitate the decision-making regarding the tenants' temporal relocation. Finally, it is also highlighted the need to involve the tenants in the design of effective renovation proposals.

The aim of this paper was to determine the axial tensile load capacity of timber structure elements with inserted metal plates with welded nails. The tests were performed on three specimens in the laboratory of the AdMaS centre of the Faculty of civilengineering, Brno University of technology. The tensile force was applied on the specimen by increasing the force up to the specimen failure. The inductive displacement transducers continuously measured the displacement of the inserted joint plates with regard to timber prisms. The tensile load-bearing capacity of the tested joint was determined at 205.0 kN. Due to the advantages, the tested joints with inserted nail plates seem to be appropriate for joining suitable timber elements.

The present invention relates to a low activation cement material for a protective wall of a nuclear power plant having excellent low activation characteristics by minimizing the contents of europium (Eu) and cobalt (Co) which are main components activated by neutrons in cement, and a manufacturing method therefor. The low activation cement material of the present invention is produced by pulverizing, together with gypsum, a clinker made by mixing 79 to 81% by weight of limestone, 12 to 18% by weight of a clay raw material, 2 to 5% by weight of a ladle slag, and the remainder comprising silica, and is characterized in that the contents of Co and Eu are 7 ppm and 0.5 ppm or less, respectively.
