Poor health and safety (H&S) conditions in the construction industry are linked to ill-defined social and economic factors. To mitigate poor construction H&S performance, it has been widely recommended that Lean Construction (LC) strategies be adopted. Existing literature shows a strong correlation between implementing LC and improving construction H&S performance. However, limited research utilises qualitative research based on primary data to understand the perspectives of experts with real-world experience on the LC/H&S relationship. To address this gap, we conducted a novel study interviewing eight highly experienced LC experts to gain insights into how LC can enhance H&S in construction projects. Going beyond theory, we conceptualised a model linking key LC methods to root causes of H&S accidents to enable tangible improvements. This model intends to guide construction professionals in adopting and implementing LC strategies to foster safer construction workplaces. Our findings affirm and extend prior research by emphasising the efficacy of LC methods in improving H&S performance in construction projects. © 2025, International Group for Lean Construction. Edge enabled Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform is of great significance to accelerate the development of smart industry. However, with the dramatic increase in real-time IIoT applications, it is a great challenge to support fast response time, low latency, and efficient bandwidth utilization. To address this issue, time sensitive network (TSN) is recently researched to realize low latency communication via deterministic scheduling. To the best of our knowledge, the combinability of multiple flows, which can significantly affect the scheduling performance, has never been systematically analyzed before. In this article, we first analyze the combinability problem. Then, a noncollision theory based deterministic scheduling (NDS) method is proposed to achieve ultralow latency communication for the time-sensitive flows. Moreover, to improve bandwidth utilization, a dynamic queue scheduling (DQS) method is presented for the best-effort flows. Experiment results demonstrate that NDS/DQS can well support deterministic ultralow latency services and guarantee efficient bandwidth utilization. © 2005-2012 IEEE.

Sandwich panel with complex core structure could be represented as a homogenous panel with anisotropic mechanical properties to describe the behavior at the macro level. Effective physical and mechanical characteristics were determined, representing the body as a homogeneous anisotropic continuum. The results of the numerical analysis of sandwich panels in case of bending were performed using ANSYS software. The effective elastic characteristics analysis for the periodicity cell of a sandwich panel shows that, to describe the stress-strain state of a panel with a similar tetrahedral core at the macro level, in addition to the orthotropic behavior in the panel plane, different elastic behavior occurs under tension and compression. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Secret Image Sharing (SIS) is the technology that shares any given secret image by generating and distributing n shadow images in the way that any subset of k shadow images can restore the secret image. However, in the existing SIS schemes, the shadow images will be easily tampered and corrupted during the communication, which will pose serious security issues. Recently, blockchain has emerged as a promising paradigm in the field of data communication and information security. To securely communicate and effectively protect the secret image data in wireless networks, we propose a Blockchain-based Secure and Efficient Secret Image Sharing (BC-SESIS) scheme with outsourcing computation in wireless networks. In the proposed BC-SESIS scheme, the shadow images are encrypted and stored in the blockchain to prevent them from being tampered and corrupted. The identity authentication-enabled smart contract is deployed to achieve the (k,n) threshold for secret image restoring. Furthermore, to reduce the computational burden of smart contract and users, an efficient outsourcing computation method is designed to outsource the restoring task, which is securely implemented by agent miners in the encryption domain. Theoretical analysis and extensive experiments demonstrate that the BC-SESIS scheme can achieve desirable communication security and high computational efficiency in the wireless networks. © 2023 IEEE.

Designing a multifunctional separator with abundant ion migration paths is crucial for tuning the ion transport in rocking-chair-type ***,a polydopamine-functionalized PVDF(PVDF@PDA)nanofibrous membrane is designed to serve as a separator for aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs).The functional groups(OH and NH)in PDA facilitate the formation of Zn O and Zn N coordination bonds with Zn ions,homogenizing the Zn-ion flux and thus enabling dendrite-free Zn ***,the PVDF@PDA separator effectively inhibits the shuttling of V-species through the formation of V-O coordination *** a result,the Zn/NH_(4)V_(4)O_(10) battery with the PVDF@PDA separator exhibits enhanced cycling stability(92.3%after 1000 cycles at 5 A g^(-1))and rate capability compared to that using a glass fiber *** work provides a new avenue to design functionalized separators for high-performance AZIBs.

All-solid-state lithium batteries, including sulfide electrolytes and nickel-rich layered oxide cathode materials, promise safer electrochemical energy storage with high gravimetric and volumetric densities. However, the poor electrical conductivity of the active material results in the requirement for additional conducive additives, which tend to react negatively with the sulfide electrolyte. The fundamental scientific principle uncovered through this work is simple and suggests that the electrical network benefits associated with the introduction of short-length carbons will eventually be overpowered by the increase in bulk resistance associated with their instability in the sulfide electrolyte. However, applying just the right amount of short carbon fibres minimizes degradation of the sulfide solid electrolyte and maximizes the electron movement. Therefore, we propose the application of a low-weight-percent carbon nanotubes (CNTs) coating on the nickel-rich cathode LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 (NCM811) along with large-aspect-ratio carbon nanofibers (CNFs) as the primary conductive additive. When only 0.3 wt % CNTs was utilized with 4.7 wt % CNFs, an initial Coulombic efficiency of 83.55% at 0.05C and a notably excellent capacity retention of 90.1% over 50 cycles at 0.5C were achieved along with a low ionic resistance. This work helps to confirm the validity of applying short carbon pathways in sulfide-electrolyte-based cathode composites and proposes their combination with a larger primary carbon additive as a solution to the ongoing all-solid-state battery rate and instability issues. © 2024 American Chemical Society.

Low tensor-train rank with total variation for magnetic resonance imaging reconstruction

The model by imposing the low-rank minimization has been proved to be effective for magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) completion. Recent studies have also shown that imposing tensor train(TT) and total variation(TV) constraint on tensor completion can produce impressive performance, and the lower TT-rank minimization constraint can be represented as the guarantee for global constraint, while the total variation as the guarantee for regional constraint. In our solution, a new approach is utilized to solve TT-TV model. In contrast with imposing the alternating linear scheme, nuclear norm regularization on TT-ranks is introduced in our method as it is an effective surrogate for rank optimization and our solution does not need to initialize and update tensor cores. By applying the alternating direction method of multipliers(ADMM), the optimization model is disassembled into some sub-problems, singular value thresholding can be used as the solution to the first sub-problem and soft thresholding can be used as the solution to the second sub-problem. The new optimization algorithm ensures the effectiveness of data recovery. In addition, a new method is introduced to reshape the MRI data to a higher-dimensional tensor, so as to enhance the performance of data completion. Furthermore, the method is compared with some other methods including tensor reconstruction methods and a matrix reconstruction method. It is concluded that the proposed method has a better recovery accuracy than others in MRI data according to the experiment results.

Uma Oya Multipurpose Development project constructed in Sri Lanka. This project involves two Roller Concrete Core (RCC) dams, drill and blast link tunnel which connected two dams, 15.4 km mechanized headrace tunnel for transferring water to the top of a 618 m deep pressure shaft, underground powerhouse and turbine chamber and tailrace tunnel. During the boring in headrace tunnel, TBM faced a mud zone. The support for this system was concrete segment installation. Geotechnical studies confirm the clay and mud zone are surrounding this section. According to design of headrace tunnel as a pressurized water conveyance, another steel lining have been designed for this section. © 2024 The Author(s).

Heterogeneity is a fundamental and challenging issue in federated learning, especially for the graph data due to the complex relationships among the graph nodes. To deal with the heterogeneity, lots of existing methods perform the weighted federation based on their calculated similarities between pairwise clients (i.e., subgraphs). However, their inter-subgraph similarities estimated with the outputs of local models are less reliable, because the final outputs of local models may not comprehensively represent the real distribution of subgraph data. In addition, they ignore the critical intra-heterogeneity which usually exists within each subgraph itself. To address these issues, we propose a novel Federated learning method by integrally modeling the Inter-Intra Heterogeneity (FedIIH). For the inter-subgraph relationship, we propose a novel hierarchical variational model to infer the whole distribution of subgraph data in a multi-level form, so that we can accurately characterize the inter-subgraph similarities with the global perspective. For the intra-heterogeneity, we disentangle the subgraph into multiple latent factors and partition the model parameters into multiple parts, where each part corresponds to a single latent factor. Our FedIIH not only properly computes the distribution similarities between subgraphs, but also learns disentangled representations that are robust to irrelevant factors within subgraphs, so that it successfully considers the inter- and intra- heterogeneity simultaneously. Extensive experiments on six homophilic and five heterophilic graph datasets in both non-overlapping and overlapping settings demonstrate the effectiveness of our method when compared with nine state-of-the-art methods. Specifically, FedIIH averagely outperforms the second-best method by a large margin of 5.79% on all heterophilic datasets.
