PurposeThe concept of Construction 5.0 has emerged as the next frontier in construction practices and is characterized by the integration of advanced technologies with human-centered approaches, sustainable practices and resilience considerations to build smart and future-ready buildings. However, there is currently a gap in research that provides a comprehensive perspective on the opportunities and challenges of facilitating Construction 5.0. Distributed team cognition and collaborative problem-solving in project management

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to verify how distributed cognition enhances collaborative problem-solving in the context of projects. Design/methodology/approach - Using qualitative research and in-depth interviews, a sample of 32 project managers with experience in traditional and agile methods acting in Brazil and internationally participated in the research process. The analysis process, utilising coding techniques, involved stages: open, axial, coding and selective coding. These stages encompassed the evaluation of categories based on a hierarchy, in order to determine an appropriate level of abstraction that properly explains theoretical findings. Findings - The results indicate that distributed team cognition is significant for collaborative problemsolving. The data from the interviews allowed the proposal of a model of cognition, and the identification of the elements that support it. Practical implications - Understand how aspects of distributed team cognition can impact the behaviours of the project professional and contribute to problem-solving in the project environment. Originality/value - The elements observed affects the collaborative problem-solving by presenting a model of distributed cognition, which is composed by directed communication, collective interaction, trust building and collaborative behaviour.

Critical success factors for change management in business process management

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to determine the influence of project critical success factors (CSFs) on change management in the context of business process management (BPM). Despite widespread interest in BPM, the existing literature is insufficient in addressing the antecedents that contribute to change management in business process ***/methodology/approachKey factors of change management success in BPM projects were initially identified in a systematic literature review (SLR) and were used as antecedents of change management through a structural equation modeling (SEM) with 464 business project stakeholders. Next, a neural network analysis allowed the key factors to be ranked non-linearly. Finally, a latent class analysis (LCA) was performed to determine the sample's heterogeneous groups based on their project management *** management, top management support and technological competencies were the main CSFs identified as having positive effects on change management. The most important factor is project management, followed by top management support, which plays a crucial mediating role in enabling change management. Although relevant, technological competencies were secondary in the study. PurposeThis study aims to broaden the understanding of the additive manufacturing (AM) body of knowledge, presenting a model better suited to the current level of technological development that supports the decision to implement AM in industries, based on the experience of companies in the industry of orthopedic medical ***/methodology/approachBased on the design-science research, the model for the decision to adopt the AM was designed and submitted to experts from the industry of orthopedic implants in Brazil for refinement. For the empirical test of the final model, interviews were used in a company that was considering implementing AM and in another that was not, to evaluate the *** model considers seven dimensions for decision analysis of AM implementation: legal constraints, financial, technological, operational, organizational, supply chain and external factors, being subdivided into 42 criteria that play a relevant role in the implementation decision. Design for disassembly (DfD) is a strategy that facilitates material recovery by proactively identifying key elements of a building that can be deconstructed in the future. Many factors influence the success of DfD, including connection type, use of lightweight components, and government policies. Many studies have focused on these factors, and several tools have been proposed to support DfD implementation. To better understand the nature of these factors and tools, this study presents a literature review composed of two parts. The first investigates critical success factors (CSFs) influencing DfD in the construction industry using a people, process, and technology (PPT) methodology. The second part focuses on DfD computer-aided tools, and the state-of-the-art in the development of these tools is discussed, along with their main contributions. In conclusion, 27 DfD critical success factors are identified along with several tools that support its implementation.

DTX is a 1.3-mile-long rail extension being constructed by Transbay Joint Powers Authority to extend Caltrain rail service and future California High Speed Rail service to downtown San Francisco. It includes a 3,352-foot-long mined tunnel with a cross section varying from 50 to 60 feet wide and 43 feet high to accommodate two- and three-rail tracks. DTX will be excavated in mixed-face and Franciscan Formation with ground cover ranging from 40 to 85 feet. This paper discusses how mined tunnel design has evolved since the initial preliminary design phase over 10 years ago. Healthcare ecosystem integrated project management oriented to the patient journey: a systematic literature review

Purpose - This article aims to identify in academic literature the relationship between the healthcare ecosystem and project management. Design/methodology/approach - The systematic literature review was composed of 2,575 articles obtained through the Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed databases, with 249 articles selected to understand the theoretical assumptions and research gaps in project management in the health sector. The analyses and coding process were supported by Rayyan, Word and Excel software. Findings - The synthesis of results points to three major dimensions that influence the quality of services provided to patients, namely (1) healthcare ecosystem, (2) patient journey and (3) project management principles and practices. A preliminary model linking these constructs was built to inspire future research on the synergy of the healthcare ecosystem with project management practices to improve services provided to patients and the population. Practical implications - This study can inspire project management models aimed at integrated and complete healthcare services oriented to the patient journey, improving quality, cost-effective outcomes and equity of access for patients and the population. Social implications - This article generates social implications by contributing to the implementation of solutions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals recommended by the United Nations related to the promotion of well-being and health services for the population. Originality/value - The synchronization of different project management practices under an integrated project governance oriented to patient journey can support leaders and project teams in the healthcare ecosystem to deliver services to patients and population.

The metaverse concept as a science fiction concept has been around for a few decades, but new computing technologies have made it a reality in 2021 with Microsoft Mesh for Teams for Hololens, Meta Horizon Worlds and Workrooms for Oculus Quest, Nvidia Omniverse, HTC Viveverse, and many other apps for any type of head- mounted devices. While analysts estimate a market size as high as $13 trillion by 2030, there are challenges ahead. Despite growing interest in the metaverse across various industries, there is currently a lack of literature and research on the topic in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. The objective of this paper is to present the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) of this new mode of communication based on published articles in other industries. This study highlights the challenges for future efforts involving the implementation of metaverse in the AEC industry.

Purpose The purpose of this research is to develop a generic framework of a digital twin (DT)-based automated construction progress monitoring through reality capture to extended reality (RC-to-XR). Design/methodology/approach IDEF0 data modeling method has been designed to establish an integration of reality capturing technologies by using BIM, DTs and XR for automated construction progress monitoring. Structural equation modeling (SEM) method has been used to test the proposed hypotheses and develop the skill model to examine the reliability, validity and contribution of the framework to understand the DRX model's effectiveness if implemented in real practice. Findings The research findings validate the positive impact and importance of utilizing technology integration in a logical framework such as DRX, which provides trustable, real-time, transparent and digital construction progress monitoring. Practical implications DRX system captures accurate, real-time and comprehensive data at construction stage, analyses data and information precisely and quickly, visualizes information and reports in a real scale environment, facilitates information flows and communication, learns from itself, historical data and accessible online data to predict future actions, provides semantic and digitalize construction information with analytical capabilities and optimizes decision-making process. Originality/value The research presents a framework of an automated construction progress monitoring system that integrates BIM, various reality capturing technologies, DT and XR technologies (VR, AR and MR), arraying the steps on how these technologies work collaboratively to create, capture, generate, analyze, manage and visualize construction progress data, information and reports.

The need for ground-up transitions: exploring the knowledge politics of agroecology in Gujarat, India

Despite a plethora of emerging alternatives under the broad rubric of agroecology, sustainable transitions in Indian agriculture are caught between institutional inertia and lock-ins of its vast agricultural establishment on the one hand and a pro-active state promoting a natural farming. This push for Zero-Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF), while welcome as an alternative, also raises several questions on the nature of knowledge production and dissemination. This paper explores the knowledge politics around top-down "skilling regimes" and the principles and paradigms that emphasize social learning. We explore the multiple practices, meanings of agroecology among farmers, government agencies, and civil society organizations in the state of Gujarat. The action research included a survey of practices of 250 farmers in 12 districts, interviews, and stakeholder workshops. Insufficient investments in community-based extension mechanisms and lack of collaboration between state and civil society were features of the policy implementation. The absence of innovative platforms to facilitate knowledge dialogs and learning among actors to advance agroecology increases the gap between policy goals and its actual realization in practice. programs for upscaling agroecology, we suggest, need to embed the diversity of technical and institutional processes through creating learning alliances to facilitate knowledge dialogs across dissimilar actors.
