PurposeThe authors investigated how emotional intelligence (EI) affects the relationship between project managers' (PMgs) expertise and experience and project success for both the team and ***/methodology/approachThis study collected 290 valid responses from IT project managers. The results were analyzed using an ordinary least squares (OLS) regression, with Process v4.0 procedure and the Johnson-Neyman (JN) technique to assess the moderating effect of the level of *** showed that moderate levels of EI can enhance the impact of PMgs' experience on the project client, while higher levels of EI are necessary to positively impact the team. The contribution of private health facilities to the urban tuberculosis program of Afghanistan

Setting: Although the prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) is generally higher in urban areas than in rural areas, coordination between the private and public sectors for TB control is weak. Objective: To share experience from an urban DOTS program in five cities of Afghanistan. Design: An urban DOTS project was designed in 2009 in Kabul, Afghanistan, and later expanded to Kandahar, Jalalabad, Herat, Mazari-i-Sharif, and Paul-i-Khomri cities. Results: In total, 57 public health facilities and 49 private facilities provided DOTS services in the five cities from 2015 to 2018. A total of 28,542 (10.6%) adults (aged ≥15) screened were diagnosed with TB (all forms). The private sector contributed 5,618 (19.7%) of those. Positivity rates among presumptive TB cases in public facilities were 18.9%, 12.5%, 14.4%, and 4.8% in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, respectively. In private facilities, positivity rates were 25.8%, 39.5%, and 27.4% in 2016, 2017, and 2018, respectively. Conclusion: The private sector's contribution to case detection was very high and the TB positivity rate among people screened in the private sector was high, which could be due to more selective screening rather than all health facility visitors done by public health facilities. © 2022 Tuberculosis Association of India

An Alternative Representation of project Activity Networks: Activity on Arcs and Nodes (AoAaN)

Activity-on-arc (AoA) and activity-on-node (AoN) project network representations have been used in construction scheduling for many decades. But due to the primary information that they emphasize-the activities themselves in the AoA graphs, and the precedence relationship structure in the AoN graphs-they also have significant limitations. In this paper, we develop a hybrid representation approach named Activity-on-Arcs-and-Nodes (AoAaN). This novel network representation transforms all project activities into arcs (as in the AoA representation) but retains all precedence relationships between activities (as in AoN). To develop this alternative network representation, first, we establish its theoretical drawing principles, which mostly involve how to deal with different precedence relationship types (FS, SS, SF, FF) in basic networks. Then, we proceed with the calculation and analysis of more realistic project examples with a larger number of activities. Advantages of the new AoAaN is that it allows a simpler and more fine-grained determination of the critical path, while facilitating computer calculation via a Dependency Structure Matrix (DSM) that purely contains numerical information. Additionally, the proposed AoAaN allows handling coupled (interdependent) activities, a type of relationship that had previously hampered analysis of networks. Due to its flexible modeling capabilities and calculation simplicity, we suggest the AoAaN representation be added to project management courses as well as be used by project schedulers as a more capable alternative to the traditional AoA and AoN representations.

Optimal site selection for construction and demolition waste disposal using GIS-FAHP: a case study from Kafr El Sheikh City, Egypt

The increasing number of building and demolition projects results in huge amounts of construction and demolition wastes (CDWs) that are illegally dumped. However, these wastes must be disposed of in appropriate legal sites to protect the environment and human health. After reviewing the literature, no prior research examined optimal site selection for dumping or recycling CDW in an Egyptian city. Furthermore, the absence of field surveys did not offer a holistic understanding of the specific criteria used in the model for this region, nor did it permit an assessment of the suitability of existing dumpsites, thereby revealing certain limitations in the final results. In this regard, this research aims to apply a multi-criteria geographic information system (GIS)-based framework to identify an optimal site for CDW disposal in Kafr El Sheikh City. The criteria affecting the site selection are identified and categorized from prior literature, which are further refined using field surveys and focus group to evaluate their applicability in the context of an Egyptian city. After conducting questionnaire surveys, the trapezoidal interval type II fuzzy analytic hierarchy process is applied to compute the weights of the identified criteria from the perspective of each group of experts. The entropy-based aggregation approach is employed to identify the compromise weights taking into account the preferences of different groups. GIS is a powerful tool for geoprocessing and analyzing spatial big data. The result is a scenario map for the optimal site locations with varying suitability scales (i.e., excellent, very good, good, average, poor, and very poor). The proposed methodology provides what-if scenarios based on a selected set of criteria. According to the results of the multi-criteria decision analysis models, the suitability varies based on the weights of the criteria. Consumer intention to purchase and corporate social responsibility: Evidence from an experiment in an entrepreneurial context

Previous research has addressed the effects of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives on consumer purchase intention (CPI). However, most of the empirical evidence is based on the analysis of mature large-scale firms;much less examines the effects of CSR initiatives on CPI in entrepreneurial contexts. In this study, we address this gap by investigating whether entrepreneurial start-ups' declaration of CSR engagement affects consumers' purchasing intent. We assert that consumers may consider firms' CSR engagement as a signal for unobserved product quality. We exploit a vignette experimental approach to test our theoretical predictions. In our experiment, participants received online invitations to subscribe to an electronic catalog that advertised various products supplied by entrepreneurial start-ups. The invitations are of five types, some of which presenting different CSR-related information on the suppliers to the participants. Overall, we find that the displayed information on CSR engagement promotes participants' willingness to subscribe to the electronic catalog, indicating that consumers will increase their purchase intentions for ethically oriented suppliers. Moreover, we find that among all the initiatives, external CSR initiatives (social contribution and environmental responsibility) promote consumers' intentions to purchase most effectively. To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first to explore the effects of different CSR initiatives on entrepreneurial start-ups in entrepreneurship literature. We highlight the heterogeneous effects of CSR initiatives on CPI, contributing new insights to research on CSR and consumer behavior.

Streamlining admissions to outpatient substance use treatment using lean methods

Background Waiting to be admitted to treatment poses a significant barrier to substance use recovery. Such delays occur when service demands exceed treatment capacity. One issue that contributes to this problem is clients missing scheduled appointments (i.e., no-shows) because it typically leaves time that could be used to counsel others in need. Methods This research utilized Lean methods, which encompass approaches for improving process efficiency by reducing waste (i.e., work that does not add value to a product or service), to reduce intake appointment no-shows and admission wait-time within an intensive outpatient substance use treatment program in Fort Bend County, Texas;hence, this study involved mapping the client admission process, analyzing it for causes of inefficiency, and developing and implementing countermeasures (i.e., solutions) to address the issues identified in order to improve performance. Results By implementing enhanced appointment reminders, posting admission process information online, and transferring financial eligibility tasks to nonclinical staff, intake appointment no-shows were reduced from 24% to 17%, and admission wait-time was reduced from 14 to 9 days. Conclusions This case report provides a detailed example from which other outpatient substance use treatment programs can learn to streamline their admission process with little to no additional resources.

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Access (IDEA) spurs creativity, encourages ideas from people who have been historically ignored, and promotes an invigorating learning environment. Despite such benefits, we do precious little when it comes to practicing the same in our classrooms. Regrettably, our infrastructure and education system does not always provide enough opportunities for the younger generation to appreciate, understand and experience the significance of an inclusive society, preventing our students an opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom for the betterment of marginalized and minoritized communities. Against such a backdrop, the author focuses on how faculty can enhance the classroom-level student-experience through a model that helps students' understanding and appreciation of IDEA. The author believes that this research model not only plugs a significant gap in our attitude towards IDEA practice and implementation but will also spur educators and practitioners to consider adopting similar measures while designing their respective curricula.

From BIM to metaverse for AEC industry

BIM-to-Metaverse offers benefits to the AEC industry, but the challenge of efficiently and effectively implementing it will be formidable and require several years. The objective of this study is to identify the outsourcing forms of this new technology for construction project stakeholders and to explore its associated implementation challenges. Specifically addressed will be (a) innovations in XR technologies and how to convert BIM models to XR models for visualization in the metaverse, (b) an integrated definition function (IDEF0) model that describes how to prepare the BIM model for metaverse, (c) a use case for utilizing metaverse in the AEC industry and an evaluation of the concerns that must be resolved prior to successful implementation, and (d) an example illustrating the process. The metaverse implementation in design and construction can enhance collaboration, productivity, and quality but implementation cost, data security, and hardware and software interoperability are major challenges in its implementation.

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the influence of resource slack on the decline of Brazilian companies, with a particular focus on the moderating role of environmental dynamism. The authors specifically examine three types of resource slack: available, potential and recoverable. These represent surplus resources that exceed what is necessary for the organization's basic operations. The role of environmental dynamism, characterized by rapid changes in customer preferences, technologies and competitive dynamics, is considered as a moderating factor in this ***/methodology/approachThe authors used data from Brazilian companies spanning from 1997 to 2008. The research sample was composed using the matching-pairs method, which included a group of publicly traded companies that experienced decline (43 companies) and a group that did not (40 companies) within the specified *** of this study indicate that the presence of available slack, being more liquid resources, decreases the likelihood of organizational decline. Furthermore, the moderation effect of potential resource slack can mitigate decline in companies operating in dynamic ***/valueThis research provides valuable insights into the impact of slack resources on potential organizational turnarounds. Given the relative scarcity of resources in these companies compared to those in developed countries, whether they be financial, human or technological, the study highlights the unique influence of slack in a less explored institutional environment. Formulation Intervention to Overcome Decreased Kinetic Solubility of a Low Tg Amorphous Drug

This technical note investigated the loss of dissolution rate during accelerated stability studies with a dry blend capsule formulation containing an amorphous salt of drug NVS-1 (T-g 76 degrees C). After 6 m at 40 degrees C/75%RH, dissolution of NVS-1 was & LE;40% of initial value. Scanning electron microscope characterization of the undissolved capsule contents from samples stored at 50 degrees C/75%RH for 3 weeks showed agglomeration with a distinct "melt and fuse" morphology of particles. At elevated temperature and humidity conditions, undesired sintering among the amorphous drug particles was observed. Humidity plasticizes the drug as the stability temperature (T) gets closer to the glass transition temperature (T-g) of the amorphous salt (i.e., smaller T-g-T);a decreased viscosity favors viscoplastic deformation and sintering of drug particles. When moisture is adsorbed onto agglomerated drug particles, partial dissolution of the drug forms a viscous surface layer, further reducing the rate of dissolution media penetration into the bulk solid, hence the slower dissolution rate. Formulation intervention focused on the use of L-HPC and fumed silica as disintegrant and glidant and the removal of the hygroscopic crospovidone. Reformulation improved dissolution performance at short-term accelerated stability conditions of 50 degrees C (& PLUSMN;75%RH);however, sintering to a lesser extent was still observed at high humidity, impacting the dissolution rate. We infer reducing the impact of moisture at high humidity conditions in a formulation with a 34% drug load is challenging. Future formulation efforts will focus on the addition of water scavengers, reducing drug load by similar to 50% to physically separate drug particles by water-insoluble excipients, and optimizing disintegrant levels.
