Currently, a lot of universities are offering Java programming courses for teaching the first-step object-oriented programming language. For novice students, to master writing readable codes using proper names for variables, classes, and methods is crucial in Java programming, to improve understandability and maintainability. In this paper, we consider four naming rules to write a readable code and implement the naming rule checking function to check whether the given code follows them. For evaluations, we applied the proposal to 2, 908 source codes submitted in Java programming courses from students in Okayama University, Japan, Malang State Polytechnic, Indonesia, and Yamaguchi University, Japan. The results confirm the effectiveness of the proposal. © 2025 IEEE.

In recent years, researchers and health care professionals have been interested in medical image fusion, which combines images of the human body, organs, and cells with general information to address medical difficulties. computer-aided imaging techniques offer quantitative assessment of images under validation, which helps doctors make unbiased, objective decisions quickly. Multi-sensor and multi-source image fusion models also diversify healthcare analysis characteristics. It led to strong information processing that reveals otherwise invisible details. The fused pictures can help pinpoint anomalies. Multimodal image fusion combines complementing pictures into one. The fused image is ideal for visual perception or computer segmentation, feature extraction, and object recognition. The goal is to create a single fused image with more information than the source photos alone. The fused image combines the source images' complementary and shared elements, delivering enhanced subjective and objective detail. In biomedical imaging, fusing multimodal images has shown useful for disease characterisation. Medical image analysis uses CT, MRI, and PET (PET). In this research paper, we developed a Multimodality Image Fusion using Centre based genetic algorithm (CBGA) and fuzzy logic (FL) technique with lifting wavelet transform (LWT) for fusion of spatially registered MRI and CT images. We also proposed an efficient Multimodality Medical Image Fusion system based on DWT and binary crow search optimization (BCSO) algorithm for fusing MRI and CT images. The performance of the suggested models is validated against many benchmark medical datasets. The experiment showed that the proposed models outperformed all others. © 2023 IEEE.

Photovoltaic solar energy has been growing due to the demand for diversification of the global energy grid and the concern about replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy. There is a great potential for this form of energy generation due to high levels of solar irradiation. However, the efficiency of commercial panels is still low and is negatively affected by temperature rises on the panel. To mitigate this effect, several cooling techniques have been previously proposed. This work focuses on studying the relation between the temperature of solar panels and the energy produced by them. It also uses thermoelectric cells acting as coolers for the system bringing down the panel temperature to increase its efficiency. The main goal is to build a plant consisting of a solar panel attached to one or more thermoelectric cells and connected to a data acquisition system. This setup will be used to evaluate the improvement in performance obtained through this strategy. The experiments will be carried out at the Petroleum Measurement Evaluation Laboratory-LAMP, and the results will be compared with mathematical and simulation models present in the literature. © 2023, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). This research introduces a Hybrid Intrusion Detection System (HIDS) that merges signature-based detection, with AI-powered anomaly detection to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of identifying cyber threats. The proposed HIDS demonstrates an ability to detect uncommon and sophisticated cyber threats with an accuracy rate of 90.37%. By combining Gradient Boosting and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithms the system improves detection precision, speeds up response times, and expands coverage across network traffic. This comprehensive approach overcomes the limitations of traditional methods by enabling threat responses while reducing false positive rates. The study highlights the potential of integrating signature-based and AI-driven techniques to strengthen cybersecurity defences which emphasizes the benefits of this approach. When the system detects a potential threat, alerts are sent to the Security Operations Center (SOC) or Network Operations Center (NOC), with details such as nature of the threat, and the affected system. This study establishes a foundation for real-time cyber threat detection and intelligence sharing in cloud environments, with future Hybrid IDS versions operating across multiple hosts and supported by a web service for cross-platform compatibility and centralized alert system.

Time-domain constraints for passive materials: The Brendel-Bormann model revisited

This paper presents a systematic approach to derive physical bounds for passive systems, or equivalently for positive real (PR) functions, directly in the time-domain (TD). As a generic, canonical example we explore the TD dielectric response of a passive material. We will furthermore revisit the theoretical foundation regarding the Brendel-Bormann (BB) oscillator model which is reportedly very suitable for the modeling of thin metallic films in high-speed optoelectronic devices. To this end, an important result here is to re-establish the physical realizability of the BB model by showing that it represents a passive and causal system. The theory is based on Cauer's representation of an arbitrary PR function together with associated sum rules (moments of the measure) and exploits the unilateral Laplace transform to derive rigorous bounds on the TD response of a passive system. Similar bounds have recently been reported for more general casual systems with other a priori assumptions. To this end, it is important to note here that the existence of useful sum rules and related physical bounds rely heavily on an assumption about the PR functions having a low- or high-frequency asymptotic expansion at least of odd order 1. As a particular numerical example, we consider here the electric susceptibility of gold (Au) which is commonly modeled by well established Drude or BB models. Explicit physical bounds are given as well as an efficient fast-Fourier transform -based numerical procedure to compute the TD impulse response associated with the nonrational BB model.

Discrimination of Temperature and Strain by Characterizing Two Femtosecond Laser-Written Coincident Sapphire Fiber Bragg Gratings for Harsh Environment Applications

In this study, two co-incident sapphire fiber Bragg gratings (SFBGs) were successfully inscribed utilizing a femtosecond (fs) laser to achieve a high fringe contrast interferogram. These two SFBGs employ a unique configuration, one parallel to the center axis, called p-SFBG, and the other forming an angle from the center-axis, called a-SFBG, allowing for simultaneous strain and temperature measurements with low crosstalk. As a proof of concept, p-SFBG and a-SFBG using line-by-line method are characterized, which are shorter in length (i.e., 1.5 mm), producing reflectivity of ~3 dB. This effort demonstrates the use of two coincident SFBGs forming an angle of 2.29° between them within an extremely highly multimode sapphire fiber. The p-SFBG exhibits superior strain sensitivity (1.8 pm/ μΕ) in contrast to the a-SFBG (0.4 pm/ μΕ). Their efficacy was evaluated under applied strains reaching up to 1000 μΕ . Both SFBGs underwent thorough characterization for long-term stability at elevated temperatures, enduring exposure at 1600 ◦C for 24 h. The novelty of the sensor lies in the fact that a-SFBG exhibits extremely low sensitivity compared to p-SFBG, which plays an important role in eliminating the crosstalk between co-incident SFBGs. This configuration addresses challenges related to temperature and strain crosstalk, facilitating simultaneous measurements via sensitivity matrix in harsh environmental conditions. This achievement represents a significant advancement in the field of optical sensing, paving new avenues for simultaneous temperature and strain measurement, particularly for applications in harsh environments. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Designing and simulating a network infrastructure for multi-branch organizations is essential for ensuring seamless connectivity and efficient operations. This paper addresses the challenges faced by organizations in maintaining consistent and reliable network connectivity across multiple locations, including managing network traffic, ensuring security, and optimizing resource allocation while keeping costs under control. The study presents a comprehensive methodology involving the conceptualization of network ideas, designing the network architecture, adding necessary devices and tools, configuring these devices according to the network topology, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance. Key elements such as VLANs, routers, switches, and routing protocols like RIP, OSPF, and EIGRP are incorporated, with the entire design and simulation conducted using Cisco Packet Tracer. The findings demonstrate that full connectivity between headquarters and branch sites can be achieved within a budget of $40,000. This paper provides a practical guide for implementing similar network projects, emphasizing the importance of detailed configurations and troubleshooting steps, and recommends adopting this methodology to enhance network infrastructure efficiently and cost-effectively. © 2024 IEEE.

A Proof of Concept Resource Management Scheme for Augmented Reality Applications in 5G Systems

Augmented reality applications are bitrate intensive, delay-sensitive, and computationally demanding. To support them, mobile edge computing systems need to carefully manage both their networking and computing resources. To this end, we present a proof of concept resource management scheme that adapts the bandwidth at the base station and the GPU frequency at the edge to efficiently fulfill roundtrip delay constrains. Resource adaptation is performed using a Multi-Armed Bandit algorithm that accounts for the monotonic relationship between allocated resources and performance. We evaluate our scheme by experimentation on an OpenAirInterface 5G testbed where the considered application is OpenRTiST. The results indicate that our resource management scheme can substantially reduce both bandwidth usage and power consumption while delivering high quality of service. Overall, this work demonstrates that intelligent resource control can potentially establish systems that are not only more efficient but also more sustainable. © 2025, CC BY.

Monitoring the environment and managing water bodies are crucial for preserving ecosystems and ensuring sustainable resource utilization. This study aims to propose a robust approach for segmenting water bodies by combining various complementary attributes extracted from deep learning techniques. By leveraging deep contextual features learned from attention regions and enhanced edge detection, our method significantly improves the accuracy of detecting water bodies in low-resolution satellite imagery. Utilizing S1 and S2 Sentinel imagery data and exploring multi-band features, we enhance key attributes through advanced UNet architectures—specifically, Ki-UNet and Attention UNet—and integrate complementary features for downstream tasks. Additionally, we assembled a local dataset from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) region of Pakistan, facilitating precise water body segmentation from satellite or aerial views. Our ensemble model achieved remarkable accuracy and Intersection over Union (IoU) scores, reaching up to 99.01% and 96.2%, respectively, surpassing state-of-the-art models.
