In order to improve the behavior of the prognostic model for patients with head and neck cancer (HNC), we constructed a graph convolutional network (GCN), characterizing the interaction of functional and structural information among different sub-regions of tumors in both PET and CT images. Sub-regions were obtained by using the Watershed-based method and were regarded as vertexes in the graph. The element of 1 in the adjacency matrix indicates corresponding two vertices are spatially contiguous, while the element of 0 indicates they are separated. The selected radiomics features were used to characterize each vertex. 642 HNC patients from 8 different centers were used. The best C-index of 0.767 was achieved by the combination of GCN and clinical parameters compared to the radiomics model (0.747) or GCN model (0.702). the proposed approach has great potential in aiding treatment decision-making. © 2022 IEEE.

Self-Doping Mechanism for Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Molecules: A Theoretical Perspective

Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) molecules with dual conformations have significant applications in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Interesting properties of dual conformations of TADF molecules show various novel application in self-doping systems. However, the amounts and species of self-doping systems are far from meeting the requirements, theoretical investigation to reveal the self-doping mechanism is highly desired. Herein, the reported TADF molecule TP2P-PXZ with dual conformations is adopted and its photophysical properties are studied by first-principles calculations. Through analyzing the potential energy surface, two stable conformations of TP2P-PXZ-qa (QA) and TP2P-PXZ-qe (QE) are determined. Based on density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations coupled with the combining quantum mechanics and molecular mechanics (QM/MM) method, the basic geometric and electronic structures are optimized, frontier orbital distributions and energies are obtained, transition properties are analyzed. Furthermore, intermolecular interactions are measured by the independent gradient model based on Hirshfeld partition (IGMH) method, excited states energy consumption processes are investigated by thermal vibration correlation function (TVCF) method. Results indicate that two conformations (QA and QE) coexist in the solid phase, the QA conformation acts as host and QE conformation acts as guest. Efficient intersystem crossing (ISC) and reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) processes are determined for QE conformation with the calculated rate constants of 1.93×108 s-1 and 1.30×107 s-1, respectively. In addition, large overlap between the emission spectrum of the QA conformation and the absorption spectrum of the QE conformation indicates an efficient energy transfer process from host to guest. Facing the body＇s EEG（electroencephalograph, 0.5–100 Hz, 5–100 μV） and ECG＇s（electrocardiogram,〈 100 Hz, 0.01–5 mV） micro signal detection requirement, this paper develops a pervasive application micro signal detection ASIC chip with the chopping modulation/demodulation method. The chopper-stabilization circuit with the RRL（ripple reduction loop） circuit is to suppress the ripple voltage, which locates at the single-stage amplifier＇s outputting terminal. The single-stage chopping core＇s noise has been suppressed too, and it is beneficial for suppressing noises of post-circuit. The chopping core circuit uses the PFB（positive feedback loop） to increase the inputting resistance, and the NFB（negative feedback loop） to stabilize the 40 dB intermediate frequency gain. The cascaded switch-capacitor sample/hold circuit has been used for deleting spike noises caused by non-ideal MOS switches, and the VGA/BPF（voltage gain amplifier/band pass filter） circuit is used to tune the chopper system＇s gain/bandwidth digitally. Assisted with the designed novel dry-electrode, the real test result of the chopping amplifying circuit gives some critical parameters： 8.1 μW/channel, 0.8 μVrms（@band-widthD100 Hz）, 4216–11220 times digitally tuning gain range, etc. The data capture system uses the NI CO＇s data capturing DAQmx interface,and the captured micro EEG/ECG＇s waves are real-time displayed with the PC-Labview. The proposed chopper system is a unified EEG/ECG signal＇s detection instrument and has a critical real application value.

For those who love painting but unfortunately have visual impairments, holding a paintbrush to create a work is really a difficult task. For the purpose of solving this problem, a painting navigation system for visually impaired painters is introduced through the live demonstration. When painting, the developed system can endow visually impaired persons with the ability to perceive the surrounding environment, thus helping them realize their dream of painting. To achieve this goal, we designed four main modules viz., QR code based drawing board positioning module, brush real-time positioning module, color recognition module and human-computer interaction module, and integrated them into the system. In the validation experiments, the blindfolded users can successfully create a painting with the help of the developed navigation system. Moreover, the users told us that this system provided them with good experience. In a way, this painting navigation system can be seen as "angel's eyes" of visually impaired painters. During the last two decades, image quality assessment has been a major research area, which considerably helps to promote the development of image processing. Following the tremendous success of Structural SIMilarity (SSIM) index in terms of the correlation between the quality predictions and the subjective scores, many improved algorithms have been further exploited, such as Multi-Scale SSIM (MS-SSIM) and Information content Weighted SSIM (IW-SSIM). However, a growing number of researchers have been devoted to the study of the effects of uneven responses to different image distortion categories on prediction accuracy of the quality metrics. Inspired by this, we propose an improved full-reference image quality assessment paradigm based on structure compensation. Experimental results on laboratory for image and Video Engineering (LIVE) database and Tampere image Database 2008 (TID2008) are provided to confirm our introduced approach has superior prediction performance as compared to mainstream image quality metrics. Besides, it is worth emphasizing that our algorithm not introduces other operators but only applies the SSIM function to compensate itself, and furthermore, it also has an effective capability of image distortion classification.

image and video coding is fundamental to data storage and transmission. JPEG 2000 is the latest international image coding standard which exploits wavelet transform for image compression. Zerotree coding structure is an efficient algorithm for coding of wavelet transform coefficients. However, implementation complexity of wavelet transform and long coding process of zerotree structure may limit the application in some cases. In this paper, an idea of multilevel DCT-based zerotree image coding is proposed, in which Wavelet Transform (WT) is replaced by Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and DCT coefficients are regrouped into subbands of different frequencies. Furthermore, a new zerotree coding structure is proposed to reduce the complexity of zerotree coding process. A conventional zerotree with a parent-child relation of 2×2 offspring is expanded to the one of 4×4 offspring. Coefficients reorder and inverse DCT are needed when DCT transform size is not a power of 4. This expansion makes each parent node of zerotree coding structure have more child nodes and, therefore, reduce the complexity of encoding process. Simulation results of images with different spatial resolutions are presented to show the advantage of the proposed algorithm. The proposed multi-level DCT-based zerotree image coding algorithm performs similar coding performance as the SPIHT method. The zerotree coding structure with a parent-child relation of 4×4 pixels can significantly reduce the complexity of high-bitrate coding process without sacrificing image subjective quality.

With the popularity of stereoscopic 3D (S3D) images and videos, many advanced objective quality assessment methods have been proposed to evaluate viewers' Quality of Experience (QoE). Among them, most algorithms take advantages of the disparity maps to extract useful features. On the other hand, deep learning has been one of the hottest research topics during these years, but limited efforts focused on the field in objective quality evaluation of S3D images. In this paper, we propose a S3D image quality assessment (S3D IQA) method based on deep learning. In this method, the Convolutional Restricted Boltzmann Machines (CRBM) combined with Factored Third-Order RBM (FTO-RBM) is considered as learning model to extract feature maps from pre-processed left and right images automatically. Then an improved traversal algorithm based on two pooling strategies is put forward to optimize extracted feature maps, which improves the final quality assessment performance significantly. Experimental results show that our S3D IQA method achieves good performance on 3D databases tested.

Most existing unsupervised person re-identification (Re-ID) methods primarily depend on the cluster distance, and merely exploit the available source labeled data to assign pseudo labels for the unannotated data. Whereas, the cluster distance usually fails to adapt to different datasets due to the domain gap. Besides, learning exclusively from the source data can not generate accurate pseudo labels for the lack of the target data information. To address this problem, we propose to exploit the spatial-temporal constraints to facilitate the pseudo label generation process. Specifically, graphs for the labeled source data are constructed and the graph convolution network (GCN) is used to learn graph embeddings. Based on these graph embeddings, the likelihood of linkages between graph nodes is estimated and utilized to assign pseudo labels for the unlabeled data. Then, with the pseudo labels, a smoothed spatial-temporal probability distribution model is generated to amend the likelihood of linkages between graph nodes as well as correct the visual similarity scores for person Re-ID. Finally, we optimize the pseudo label assignment, feature extraction networks, and spatial-temporal model alternatively and iteratively to improve the person Re-ID performance. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods. © 2022, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In this paper,we aim at improving the video quality degradation due to high motions or scene changes. An improved frame-layer bit allocation scheme for H.264/AVC rate control is ***,current frame is pre-encoded in 16×16 modes with a fixed quantization parameter(QP).The frame coding complexity is then measured based on the resulting bits and peak signal-to-ratio(PSNR) in the pre-coding ***,a bit budget is calculated for current frame according to its coding complexity and inter-frame PSNR fluctuation,combined with the buffer *** results show that,in comparison with the H.264 adopted rate control scheme, our method is more efficient to suppress the sharp PSNR drops caused by high motions and scene *** visual quality variations in a sequence are also relieved.
