Visible and infrared fusion aims to create a fused image that encompasses not only complex texture details and target-specific information but also facilitates advanced visual analyses. However, existing fusion algorithms rarely focus on the fusion of visible and infrared images in low-light environments. Therefore, in this article we propose a enhancement and fusion network for low-light visible and infrared that processes images in two stages. In the first stage, we correct the color shift of the visible light image caused by abnormal-light source and enhance the brightness of the image. In the second stage, we use the fusion network to fuse the enhancement results of the first stage with infrared, and use the loss function to constrain the network. Finally, we explore the performance of our fusion results for object detection tasks. Experimental results show that our fusion results have obvious brightness enhancement effect, high color contrast, obvious texture details and target information, and also achieve good performance in target detection tasks. © 2023 IEEE.

Traditional Markov random Field (MRF) methods assume that neighboring pixels tend to have the same lab.l. However, this assumption is always inconsistent with the actual situation and affects the resultant accuracy of the algorithm. To overcome this, we propose an object-based Markov Random Field (OMRF) model and a change detection method based on OMRF model. The OMRF model assumes that pixels within same object are in the same class. First, we generate the difference image from multi-temporal remote sensing images. Second, Mean Shift is applied to extract objects from difference image. Finally, change detection map is generated by iterative algorithm. The experimental results show that the algorithm can effectively improve the detection accuracy of the algorithm on real remote sensing datasets. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Character Modeling is becoming more and more difficult in animation industry today. Lots of designers are usually involved to cooperatively accomplish a character by computer networks or the Internet. This paper presents a Multi-Objective evaluation based Cooperative Character Modeling System(MOCMS), which can evolve various character models to generate creative ones based on multi-objective evaluations. The objectives are designed to embody different personalities, including qualitative and quantitative aspects. The former are given by different cooperative designers while the latter are calculated automatically by computers. This can incorporate qualitative and quantitative evaluation in a formal manner. Case study demonstrates that the proposed method can evolve character models according to the designers' intentions and shorten design time. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper mainly presents two approaches for image retrieval. There is some faintness in color locating in quantification boundary when image color is quantized. The membership function in fuzzy set theory can describe the fuzzy transition preferably. In this paper, the membership function in HSI color space is adopted to solve the problem above. At the same time, spatial information is integrated with color feature to describe the image content more truly. Due to the importance of texture feature, gray concurrence matrix is extracted. In the second part of this paper, retrieval scheme combining four image feature descriptors is presented, and then follows Fuzzy Hamming Distance (FHD) which is used as a fuzzy similarity measure. We have performed an experiment on a 1000 images database and our results show higher retrieval accuracy. © 2008 IEEE.

Hot spot prediction in protein interfaces is very important for understanding the essence of protein interactions and may provide promising prospect for drug design. Since experimental approaches such as alanine scanning mutagenesis are cost-expensive and time-consuming, reliable computational methods are needed. In this paper, a systematic method based on least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) within the Bayesian evidence framework is proposed, where three levels Bayesian inferences are used to determine the model parameters and regularization hyper-parameters. Then a higher precision model for hot spots is constructed by optimizing these parameters. Compared with the previous methods, our model appears to be better performance. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Many practical applications are dynamic over time, which require optimization algorithms not only to converge to optimum as soon as possible but also to track the changing optimum. In this paper, a Cooperative Dual-swarm PSO (CDPSO) is proposed to deal with dynamic optimization problems. CDPSO adopts dual-swarm structure to keep swarm diversity and track the changing optimum. Fractional Global Best Formation technique is employed to construct artificial global bests which are potential to be better. Also an adaptive mutation operator is designed to maintain particle diversity. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is effective and stable in dynamic environment. © 2011 IEEE.

We propose a novel method to improve the training efficiency and accuracy of boosted classifiers for object detection. The key step of the proposed method is a sample pre-mapping on original space by referring to the selected 'reference sample' before feeding into weak classifiers. The reference sample corresponds to an approximation of the optimal separating hyper-plane in an implicit high-dimensional space, so that the resulting classifier could achieve the performance similar to kernel method, while spending the computation cost of linear classifier in both training and detection. We employ two different non-linear mappings to verify the proposed method under boosting framework. Experimental results show that the proposed approach achieves performance comparable with the common-used methods on public datasets in both pedestrian detection and car detection. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper presents a new method to detect pedestrian in still image using Sigma sets as image region descriptors in the boosting framework. Sigma set encodes second order statistics of an image region implicitly in the form of a point set. Compared with the covariance matrix, the traditional second order statistics based region descriptor, which requires computationally demanding operations based on Riemannian manifold, Sigma set preserves similar robustness and discriminative power more efficiently because the classification on Sigma sets can be directly performed in vector space. Experimental results on the INRIA and the Daimler Chrysler pedestrian datasets show the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method. © 2010 IEEE.

If potential contributors leading to system failure can be identified when a scientific workflow is modeled, a lot of system weaknesses may thus be revealed and improved. In this paper, we first identify a number of data dependency patterns in scientific workflows and their corresponding state functions. Then, a method to transform the state functions into fault tree symbols is presented. We use fault tree analysis method to identify critical elements and elements combinations that lead to the incorrect state of a final output and calculate the probability of the incorrect state of a final output based on the probabilities of the basic events in the analyzed workflow. Moreover, an importance measure is designed to prioritize the contributors leading to the incorrect state of a final output. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed methods are proved by example and experiments. © 2012 IEEE.
