Granular-ball computing is an important model developed in the field of granular computing in recent years. This method uses granular-balls to represent and cover the sample space, and learns based on granular balls. In the current unsupervised granular-ball partitioning method, the DM (Distribution measure) value or a fixed value is mainly used to measure the quality of the granular-ball. The former can clearly represent the data distribution, but resulting in a larger number of granular-balls obtained. The latter may not clearly express the data distribution. We hope to obtain fewer granular-ball while maintaining clear expression of data distribution. To address this, we propose an unsupervised granular-ball partitioning algorithm based on KL divergence. This method evaluates granular-ball quality by calculating the KL divergence between the granular-ball and a Gaussian-distributed control ball, leading to more reasonable divisions. To evaluate the algorithm’s performance, we combine it with the minimum spanning tree-based clustering method and compare it with other unsupervised granular-ball partitioning methods. The experimental results demonstrate that this method effectively balances the efficiency and accuracy of granular-ball partitioning, resulting in more suitable granular-ball representations and improving the effectiveness of the partition. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Accurately estimating the State of Charge (SOC) is of great significance for ensuring the safe operation of lithium-ion batteries and preventing overcharging or discharging. However, as SOC is the internal state of the battery unit and cannot be directly measured, it is difficult to obtain accurate SOC values. To improve the estimation accuracy of SOC, this paper establishes a prediction model using Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (KELM), and uses Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to optimize the kernel function parameter S and regularization coefficient C of KELM and determine the optimal values, a SOC prediction method for lithium-ion batteries based on PSO-KELM is proposed. The input of the PSO-KELM model is battery voltage, current, and temperature, the output is the actual SOC value. The results show that the root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and mean percentage error (MAPE) of SOC prediction are reduced to 2.76%, 2.18%, and 6.89%, increase coefficient of determination (R 2 ) to 0.9919. The PSO-KELM model improves prediction accuracy compared to ELM and KELM models, and has good convergence and generalization properties.

The aim of cross-modal image-text retrieval is to heighten comprehension and to create robust associations between visual and textual content. This process entails a mutual querying and synchronization across various data formats. While conventional techniques have seen enhancements via attention-based approaches, they frequently miss the dynamics between corresponding and non-corresponding entity areas within image-text pairs. These techniques, often fixated on aligning image entities with textual terms, can overlook the congruence of entity characteristics, leading to less accurate localization. This research introduces PNRITR, an innovative strategy for cross-modal retrieval that leverages label learning to discern attributes absent from images, broadening the scope beyond just positive entity areas. Image-text matching is an important problem at the intersection of computer vision and natural language processing. It aims to establish the semantic link between image and text to achieve high-quality semantic alignment between the two modalities. However, the existing methods have the problem that the meaning expressed in the image or the complex narrative in the text cannot be fully understood due to insufficient feature extraction. Moreover, due to the essential modal differences between images and texts, how to effectively and accurately align the semantic contents in images and texts has become the key of research. In order to solve the above problems, this paper proposes a method based on feature enhancement and relationship interaction. When processing images, the proposed method fuses labeled features, region features and location features to represent images. When processing text, a combination of Bi-GRU and self-attention mechanism is used to represent the text. In order to further align the semantic content in images and texts accurately, this paper improves two relational interaction mechanisms by identifying connection relationships and learning association relationships. Thus, the relation enhanced embedding is obtained. Finally, it calculated the similarity of the enhanced embedding to judge the matching degree of the image and text. Extensive experiments on the public datasets Flickr30K and MSCOCO demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. © 2024 IEEE.

Genetic algorithms (GAs) are a powerful class of optimization techniques inspired by the principles of natural selection and genetics. One of the theoretical cornerstones of GAs is schema theory, which provides a framework for understanding how building blocks of solutions, known as schemas, are propagated and combined through generations. This review paper aims to provide a comprehensive theoretical analysis of schema formation in genetic algorithms. It delves into the foundational principles of schema theory, including the schema theorem and its implications for the efficiency and behavior of GAs. The paper also explores advanced topics such as schema disruption mechanisms, the impact of multimodal and epistatic fitness landscapes, and the integration of schema theory with hybrid approaches. Multi-band terahertz metamaterial absorbers offer new perspectives to achieve perfect absorption and multipoint information matching, which enable an ever-growing number of applications. In this study, a dual-band terahertz metamaterial absorber based on the metal split ring is designed. The absorber has perfect absorption peaks at 1.15 THz and 2.47 THz, and the absorption rate is more than 99%. The absorber produces a harp peak with a bandwidth of 0.008 at 2.47 THz, which has an extremely high quality factor of 308. The distribution of the electric field and surface current at two resonance points is analyzed using the finite element integration method. Through full wave simulation calculation, the maximum sensitivity of the analyte refractive index of the absorber is 400 GHz/RIU, and the maximum sensitivity of the thickness is 35 GHz/μm. The results show that the absorber can achieve highly sensitive detection of trace substances. © 2023 SPIE. All rights reserved.

Sleep posture identification is crucial for accurately assessing sleep quality and diagnosing related diseases. In the realm of non-intrusive sleep monitoring, non-contact technologies are becoming increasingly mainstream. Millimeter-wave radar is frequently utilized in sleep posture identification due to its high resolution, strong penetration, and excellent sensitivity. However, traditional radar-based methods for sleep posture identification often struggle with reliability when dealing with diverse individuals and complex sleep environments. To address these challenges, we propose UniSleepPos, which designs a novel dual-view fusion mechanism to integrate depression and elevation angle signals obtained from radar, thus accurately capturing the posture information of the monitored subject in three-dimensional space. Furthermore, we combine sleep posture identification with individual characteristics, utilizing existing individual labels as prior knowledge to assist in sleep posture identification. The integration of prior knowledge provides a valuable information source for the model, helping to enhance its understanding of the data and improve its performance. We collected sleep posture data from eight volunteers using millimeter-wave radar devices under various environmental conditions. Leave-one-subject-out experiments were conducted to validate the effectiveness of UniSleepPos. The results indicated that UniSleepPos significantly outperforms existing methods, demonstrating its potential for practical applications.

The development of the Internet has made people more closely related and has put forward higher requirements for recommendation models. Most recommendation models are studied only for the long-term interests of users. In this paper, the interaction time between the user and the item is introduced as auxiliary information in the model construction. Interaction time is used to determine users' long-term preferences and short-term preferences. In this paper, temporal features are extracted by building a convolutional gated recurrent unit with attention neural network (CNN-GRU-Attention). Firstly, for the problem of accurate feature extraction, CNN are constructed to extract higher-level and more abstract features of themselves and transform high-dimensional data into low-dimensional data;secondly, for the problem of social temporality, GRU are used to not only extract temporal information, but also effectively reduce gradient dispersion, making model convergence and training easier;finally, Graph Attention networks are used to aggregate the social relationship information of users and items respectively, which constitute the final feature representation of users and items respectively. In particular, a modified cosine similarity is used to reduce the error caused by data insensitivity when constructing the social information of the item. In this study, simulation experiments are conducted on two publicly available datasets (Epinions and Ciao), and the experimental results show that the proposed recommended model performs better than other social recommendation models, improving the evaluation metrics of MAE and RMSE by 1.06%-1.33% and 1.19%-1.37%, respectively. The effectiveness of the model innovation is proved. © 2023 IEEE.

Explainable Application Intent for Zero-Touch Networking: An Incorporation of Hypergraph and Transformer

The autonomous interpretation of application intent (APPI) represents the primary step towards achieving closed-loop autonomy in zero-touch networking (ZTN) and also a prerequisite for intent-based networking (IBN). However, understanding APPIs and invoking the corresponding network resources require network professionals with extensive technical expertise to customize network service requests (NSRs), which presents significant challenges for the large-scale deployment of ZTN. This paper investigates an interesting problem of autonomous interpretation of APPIs for ZTN, where a novel mechanism integrating hypergraph and transformer with completeness assurance (HyperTrans-CA) is proposed. In particular, we first involve the Bayesian theory to model APPIs interpretability as maximizing the correct transition probability, where hypergraph is used to describe the complex relationship between application characteristics (e.g., scenario function, and performance) and NSRs, including network devices, virtual network functions (VNFs), and resources. Then, the hypergraph is integrated into the encoder, decoder, and attention mechanisms of Transformer, and a completeness assurance mechanism is designed to improve the prediction accuracy. The convergence of HyperTrans-CA and the corresponding convergence speed of the hypergraph-boosted Transformer in the graph search process are also analyzed. Comprehensive simulations and empirical measurements regarding industrial internet demonstrate that HyperTrans-CA can effectively explain/understand APPIs. Compared to the state-of-the-art Transformer and ChatGPT3.5 models, HyperTrans-CA improves the prediction accuracy of APPIs mapped to VNFs by 23% and 46%, respectively, while raising the prediction accuracy of VNF locations by 8.6 and 17.3 times. © 2025 IEEE.
