Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall armyworm, FAW) is one of the major agricultural pests in the world. It is of great significance for ensuring crop yield to accurately recognize FAW larval instars. This research proposes a hybrid model of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Vision Transformer (ViT) for the recognition of FAW larval instars. The model uses CNN to extract local features of larval images and ViT to capture global image dependencies, achieving effective recognition of larval instars. To verify the model proposed in this paper, an image dataset of 5,006 images balancing the larval instars which are from the 1st to the 6th of FAWs is established. The proposed model achieved recognition accuracy of 99.60% and 92.11% respectively in the two cases of using and not using pre-training. The results show that the proposed model achieves higher recognition accuracy than AlexNet, VGG16, ResNet50, ResNet101, and ViT-B. Moreover, it does not rely on pre-trained weights and performs well on relatively small datasets. The research in this paper provides a new technique of the recognition for FAW instars and also provides a reference for other agricultural pest image recognition tasks. © 2024 SPIE.

Automatic code summarization aims to generate concise natural language descriptions (summary) for source code, which can free software developers from the heavy burden of manual commenting and software maintenance. Existing methods focus on learning a direct mapping from pure code to summaries, overlooking the significant heterogeneity gap between code and summary. Moreover, existing methods lack a human-like re-check process to evaluate whether the generated summaries match well with the code. To address these two limitations, we introduce RBCoSum, a novel framework that incorporates the generated Chain Of Comments (COC) as auxiliary intermediate information for the model to bridge the gap between code and summaries. Also, we propose a rethinking process where a learned ranker trained on our constructed ranking dataset scores the extent of matching between the generated summary and the code, selecting the highest-scoring summary to achieve a re-check process. We conduct extensive experiments to evaluate our approach and compare it with other automatic code summarization models as well as multiple code Large Language Models (LLMs). The experimental results show that RBCoSum is effective and outperforms baselines by a large margin. The human evaluation also proves the summaries generated with RBCoSum are more natural, informative, useful, and truthful. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

An Evolutionary Multitasking Algorithm for Efficient Multiobjective Recommendations

Represented by evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence algorithms, nature-inspired metaheuristics have been successfully applied to recommender systems and amply demonstrated effectiveness, in particular, for multiobjective recommendation. Owing to the population-based search paradigm, these algorithms can produce a number of recommendation lists, making diverse tradeoffs between multiple metrics and meeting the requirements of accuracy, novelty, diversity, and other user preferences. However, these algorithms are criticized for the low efficiency of the optimization process, especially when the number of users is large. To address this issue, this article proposes an evolutionary multitasking-based recommendation method, where each task corresponds to a user and all the tasks are optimized simultaneously, thus highly improving the efficiency of recommendation. To enhance the convergence speed, all the users are divided into multiple populations according to the similarity between their preferences, where each population evolves with internal knowledge transfer between users, and all the populations evolve with external knowledge transfer between populations. Experimental results on various datasets verify that the proposed method can better balance between multiple metrics than classical and deep neural network-based recommendation methods and exhibits significantly higher efficiency than evolutionary multiobjective optimization-based recommendation methods. © 2024 IEEE. Recommendation systems play a crucial role in helping college students find job opportunities. However, the sparsity of interactions in employment recommendation for college students poses a challenge for models based on historical user preferences. To address this issue, we propose a novel model called Ensemble Learning based Employment Recommendation under Interaction Sparsity for College Students (EERIS). The model comprises two components: a similarity information component that uses pooled users to determine the nearest neighbor in user similarity measurement, and a global interaction component that uses interaction vectors of user groups to enhance interactions. To evaluate the missing interactions, we propose a loss function called CellLoss. These components are combined based on ensemble learning to improve the model’s generalization and scalability. Our experiments on two real-world datasets demonstrate the superior performance of the EERIS model. Ablation experiments further confirm that each component positively contributes to the model’s performance. Additionally, we design a revised metric for better model testing. Overall, the proposed EERIS model effectively addresses the interaction sparsity in employment recommendation for college students and provides satisfactory recommendations to students. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The Multi-access Edge Cloud(MEC) networks extend cloud computing services and capabilities to the edge of the networks. By bringing computation and storage capabilities closer to end-users and connected devices, MEC networks can support a wide range of applications. MEC networks can also leverage various types of resources, including computation resources, network resources, radio resources,and location-based resources, to provide multidimensional resources for intelligent applications in 5/***, tasks generated by users often consist of multiple subtasks that require different types of resources. It is a challenging problem to offload multiresource task requests to the edge cloud aiming at maximizing benefits due to the heterogeneity of resources provided by devices. To address this issue,we mathematically model the task requests with multiple subtasks. Then, the problem of task offloading of multi-resource task requests is proved to be NP-hard. Furthermore, we propose a novel Dual-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning algorithm with Node First and Link features(NF_L_DA_DRL) based on the policy network, to optimize the benefits generated by offloading multi-resource task requests in MEC networks. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively improve the benefit of task offloading with higher resource utilization compared with baseline algorithms.

A Bi-selection Method Based on Consistent Matrix for Large-Scale datasets

Biselection (feature and sample selection) enhances the efficiency and accuracy of machine learning models when handling large-scale data. Fuzzy rough sets, an uncertainty mathematics model known for its excellent interpretability, are widely used in machine learning, particularly for feature selection. While the consistent matrix has significantly improved the computational efficiency and scalability of feature selection, like most fuzzy rough set-based methods, it focuses only on feature selection and seldom incorporates sample selection. This feature-centric approach can limit classification performance, particularly in noisy and large-scale datasets where both features and samples require judicious selection. To overcome these limitations, this article explores the integration of sample selection with feature selection. First, we introduce a β-consistent granulation method to generate more accurate and concise fuzzy information granules, reducing the impact of noisy samples. In addition, a novel membership function is employed to distinguish noise while simultaneously evaluating both features and samples. As a result, a biselection algorithm with linear computation complexity is proposed to select high-quality features and samples. Numerical experiments demonstrate that, compared to eleven representative algorithms, our proposed method achieves an average accuracy improvement of 9.66% and a 933-fold increase in efficiency. © 2025 IEEE.
