Optimization approach for multi-scale segmentation of remotely sensed imagery under k-means clustering guidance

In order to adapt different scale land cover segmentation, an optimized approach under the guidance of k-means clustering for multi-scale segmentation is proposed. At first, small scale segmentation and k-means clustering are used to process the original images;then the result of k-means clustering is used to guide objects merging procedure, in which Otsu threshold method is used to automatically select the impact factor of k-means clustering;finally we obtain the segmentation results which are applicable to different scale objects. FNEA method is taken for an example and segmentation experiments are done using a simulated image and a real remote sensing image from GeoEye-1 satellite, qualitative and quantitative evaluation demonstrates that the proposed method can obtain high quality segmentation results. ©, 2015, SinoMaps Press. Predicate-argument relevance model for chinese-to-naxi SMT

Aiming at the Naxi characteristics of verb post and attributive post, this paper presents a method based on predicate-argument relevance model for Chinese-to-Naxi statistical machine translation (SMT) tasks. We first parsed all source sentences using the Berkeley Chinese parser for Chinese-to-Naxi word alignment sentences and ran the Chinese semantic role labeler on all source parse trees to annotate semantic roles and obtain relevance between predicates and arguments. Then, we project semantic roles from the source side to the target side through word alignments and train the predicate-argument relevance model according to predicate-argument structure both sides. Finally, the proposed model is integrated into loglinear model to generate candidate sentences which are appropriate for Naxi grammar. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model significantly improves the translation accuracy. ©, 2015, Journal of Computational information Systems. All right reserved.

Background: In an era of shifting global agendas and expanded emphasis on non-communicable diseases and injuries along with communicable diseases, sound evidence on trends by cause at the national level is essential. The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) provides a systematic scientific assessment of published, publicly available, and contributed data on incidence, prevalence, and mortality for a mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive list of diseases and injuries. Methods: GBD estimates incidence, prevalence, mortality, years of life lost (YLLs), years lived with disability (YLDs), and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) due to 369 diseases and injuries, for two sexes, and for 204 countries and territories. Input data were extracted from censuses, household surveys, civil registration and vital statistics, disease registries, health service use, air pollution monitors, satellite imaging, disease notifications, and other sources. Cause-specific death rates and cause fractions were calculated using the Cause of Death Ensemble model and spatiotemporal Gaussian process regression. Cause-specific deaths were adjusted to match the total all-cause deaths calculated as part of the GBD population, fertility, and mortality estimates. Deaths were multiplied by standard life expectancy at each age to calculate YLLs. A Bayesian meta-regression modelling tool, DisMod-MR 2.1, was used to ensure consistency between incidence, prevalence, remission, excess mortality, and cause-specific mortality for most causes. Prevalence estimates were multiplied by disability weights for mutually exclusive sequelae of diseases and injuries to calculate YLDs. We considered results in the context of the Socio-demographic Index (SDI), a composite indicator of income per capita, years of schooling, and fertility rate in females younger than 25 years. Spelling check is an important preprocessing task when dealing with user generated texts such as tweets and product comments. Compared with some western languages such as English, Chinese spelling check is more complex because there is no word delimiter in Chinese written texts and misspelled characters can only be determined in word level. Our system works as follows. First, we use character-level n-gram language models to detect potential misspelled characters with low probabilities below some predefined threshold. Second, for each potential incorrect character, we generate a candidate set based on pronunciation and shape similarities. Third, we filter some candidate corrections if the candidate cannot form a legal word with its neighbors according to a word dictionary. Finally, we find the best candidate with highest language model probability. If the probability is higher than a predefined threshold, then we replace the original character;or we consider the original character as correct and take no action. This paper proposes an improved epsilon constraint handling method embedded in the multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition (MOEA/D) to solve constrained multi-objective optimization problems (CMOPs). More specifically, it dynamically adjusts the epsilon level, which is a critical parameter in the epsilon constraint method, according to the feasible ratio of solutions in the current population. In order to verify the effect of the improved epsilon constraint handling method, three algorithms - MOEA/D-CDP, MOEA/D-Epsilon, and MOEA/D-IEpsilon (MOEA/D with the improved epsilon constraint handling mechanism) are tested on nine CMOPs (CMOP1-CMOP9). The comprehensive experimental results indicate that the proposed epsilon constraint handling method is very effective on the performance of both convergence and diversity.

Virtual network embedding problem is a multi-objective NP-hard problem. Various mapping objectives are often mutually restricted with each other. The existing methods are mostly converting them into a single-objective optimization, which make it difficult to balance the mapping objectives. Based on the concept of multi-objective optimization, a new virtual network embedding model is proposed in this paper. In order to balance mutual constraints of the objectives, two objective functions are defined and optimized simultaneously. Multi-objective group search optimizer is used to achieve the Pareto-optimal set, in which, the ranger searching strategy is improved to optimize the performance of the algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method owns good performance in terms of the revenue and acceptance ratio.

In the process of adopting network virtualization method to solve the network ossification problem, reconfiguration can effectively improve the acceptance ratio of virtual network requests and the resource utilization of substrate network. Energy consumption as an important evaluation factors, and combined with a reconfiguration algorithm, this paper propose energy-aware reconfiguration algorithm. The target physical nodes are chosen on the constraint of the minimum energy consumption, after then, the virtual node will be migrated to the target physical node, and then the virtual links that need be migrated will be remapped to the physical links by shortest path algorithm. This method can effectively improve the virtual network request acceptance ratio and reduce the energy consumption of the substrate network after reconfiguration. The results of simulation verify the effectiveness of this algorithm.

This paper proposes a simple yet effective framework of soft cross-lingual syntax projection to transfer syntactic structures from source language to target language using monolingual treebanks and large-scale bilingual parallel text. Here, soft means that we only project reliable dependencies to compose high-quality target structures. The projected instances are then used as additional training data to improve the performance of supervised parsers. The major issues for this idea are 1) errors from the source-language parser and unsupervised word aligner;2) intrinsic syntactic non-isomorphism between languages;3) incomplete parse trees after projection. To handle the first two issues, we propose to use a probabilistic dependency parser trained on the target-language treebank, and prune out unlikely projected dependencies that have low marginal probabilities. To make use of the incomplete projected syntactic structures, we adopt a new learning technique based on ambiguous labelings. For a word that has no head words after projection, we enrich the projected structure with all other words as its candidate heads as long as the newly-added dependency does not cross any projected dependencies. In this way, the syntactic structure of a sentence becomes a parse forest (ambiguous labels) instead of a single parse tree. During training, the objective is to maximize the mixed likelihood of manually labeled instances and projected instances with ambiguous labelings. Experimental results on benchmark data show that our method significantly outperforms a strong baseline supervised parser and previous syntax projection methods.

The precise prediction of bus routes or the arrival time of buses for a traveler can enhance the quality of bus service. However, many social factors influence people's preferences for taking buses. These social factors may include heavy traffic cost, traffic congestion, poor air quality and so forth. Existing prediction techniques rarely consider social sensing when predicting the bus arrival time. Accordingly, this paper proposes a social sensing enhanced service for predicting bus routes, which integrates sensing ability and social networks to understand and measure the influence between social events and vehicle velocity. We focus on the analysis of two different attributions: PT service quality attributions PEAs and road condition attributions PRCAs. Both of them synthesize the social sensing in their evaluation of bus routes. PEA represents individual preferences and PRCA represents physical factors that significantly influence vehicle velocity. Bus relevant social events were further categorized into PEA events or PRCA events. PEAs of buses were scored according to the tendency of bus conditions reflected in social events. Furthermore, an artificial neural network prediction model is established to estimate the bus travel time. © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Generic programming has emerged as a paradigm for the development of highly reusable and safe software *** constraint mechanism explicitly describes which concrete types can instantiate generic types. As it can detect and verify the validity of generic parameter instantiated, thereby guarantee dependability and safety of generic programming. Many modern programming languages support basic generic constraints. The paper reports on a comparison of facilities for generic constraints in five programming languages: C++, Concept C++, Java, C#,named type constraints, and then presents a new abstract programming language: Apla, which supports for generic constraints base on algebraic structures. As language increasingly support generic constraints, it is necessary that language designers understand the constraint features to enable the effective use of generics and that their absence can cause difficulties for programmers.
