An E-plane cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) array with a dielectric superstrate is investigated for wide-angle scanning applications. Each slot-coupled DRA element operates at its fundamental HEM11δ mode. The dielectric superstrate is loaded above the DRA array. By adjusting its dimension and position properly, the beamwidth of the center active element pattern is significantly broadened. Meanwhile, the mutual coupling effect among various elements is effectively reduced. Both the wide-beam element pattern and reduced mutual coupling level contribute to the improvement of the array beam-steering capability. Finally, our proposed E-plane DRA array has a wide range of ±80° with a scan loss of 3 dB. © 2023 IEEE.

Domain generalization methods aim to learn transferable knowledge from source domains that can generalize well to unseen target domains. Recent studies show that neural networks frequently suffer from a simplicity-biased learning behavior which leads to over-reliance on specific frequency sets, namely as frequency shortcuts, instead of semantic information, resulting in poor generalization performance. Despite previous data augmentation techniques successfully enhancing generalization performances, they intend to apply more frequency shortcuts, thereby causing hallucinations of generalization improvement. In this paper, we aim to prevent such learning behavior of applying frequency shortcuts from a data-driven perspective. Given the theoretical justification of models' biased learning behavior on different spatial frequency components, which is based on the dataset frequency properties, we argue that the learning behavior on various frequency components could be manipulated by changing the dataset statistical structure in the Fourier domain. Intuitively, as frequency shortcuts are hidden in the dominant and highly dependent frequencies of dataset structure, dynamically perturbating the over-reliance frequency components could prevent the application of frequency shortcuts. To this end, we propose two effective data augmentation modules designed to collaboratively and adaptively adjust the frequency characteristic of the dataset, aiming to dynamically influence the learning behavior of the model and ultimately serving as a strategy to mitigate shortcut learning. Current research in computation offloading encompasses various aspects, including task partitioning and allocation, resource management, communication, and data management. This paper focuses on developing new algorithms and techniques to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the offloading process while addressing challenges arising from dynamic and heterogeneous mobile environments. Researchers are also examining the trade-off between offloading benefits like improved performance and energy efficiency, and the associated overhead costs such as communication and data management. This paper proposes an optimization strategy for computational offloading to enhance the Grey Wolf algorithm. The solution aims to quickly optimize system energy consumption while considering the arithmetic power constraint of the mobile edge computing server and time delay constraints. Simulation experiments demonstrate that the algorithm in this paper significantly outperforms the traditional Grey Wolf and PSO algorithms in terms of both performance and computational speed. ©2023 IEEE.

Sequential diagnosis prediction (SDP) is a challenging task, aiming to predict patients' future diagnoses based on their historical medical records. While methods based on graph neural networks (GNNs) have proven successful for this task, they typically focus on modeling pairwise diseases using a global disease combination graph. However, these approaches neglect the fine-grained higher-order relations among persistent and emerging diseases within a single visit, which may contain crucial clues to predict the next diagnosis. Additionally, they fail to fully leverage patient-related clinical information present in electronic health records (EHRs). To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel approach called the fusion of Dynamic Hypergraph and Clinical Event (DHCE) for sequential diagnosis prediction. The proposed method aims to exploit the fine-grained higher-order relations among diagnoses within a visit and leverage clinical event information from EHRs to improve the accuracy of predicting the next diagnosis. Specifically, DHCE categorizes diagnoses within a single visit in a fine-grained granularity into persistent and emerging categories based on a patient's historical diagnoses. It then constructs dynamic hypergraphs to capture higher-order disease relations within each visit. Next, we design a transition function to extract the transitional context from previous visits in order to generate the visit representation. Furthermore, to fully leverage patient-related clinical events in a visit, we utilize Bio-Clinical BERT to encode them and generate the clinical event representation for each visit. Finally, we combine the visit representation and event representation to generate a comprehensive patient representation, which is then used to predict the patient's next diagnosis. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets consistently demonstrate that DHCE outperforms state-of-the-art methods. © 2023 IEEE.

This article addresses an adaptive tracking control problem for uncertain high-order fully actuated (HOFA) systems with unknown parameters and disturbances. Under the framework of backstepping, the unknown parameter is estimated and the external disturbance is handled by using adaptive control and H8 technique, respectively. Moreover, the Levant differentiator is employed to reduce the computation burden. Additionally, the boundedness of signals in the closed-loop system is proven using the Lyapunov theory. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is validated through the simulation study. © 2024 IEEE.

In this study, we introduce a novel Hybrid Federated Learning (HybridFL) approach aimed at enhancing privacy and accuracy in collaborative machine learning scenarios. Our methodology integrates Differential Privacy (DP) and secret sharing techniques to address inference risks during training and protect against information leakage in the output model. Drawing inspiration from recent advances, we present a HybridFL framework that combines the strengths of Homomorphic Encryption (HE) and Multi-Party Computation (MPC) to achieve secure computation without the computational overhead of pure HE methods. Our contributions include a privacy-preserving design for Federated Learning (FL) that ensures local data privacy through secret sharing while leveraging DP mechanisms for noise addition. The system offers resilience against unreliable participants and is evaluated using various machine learning models, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Multi-Layer Perceptrons (MLP), and linear regression. Furthermore, we address potential external threats by deploying predictive model outputs as robust services against inference attacks. Experimental results demonstrate improved accuracy and convergence speed, establishing the viability of HybridFL as an effective solution for collaborative machine learning with enhanced privacy guarantees. © ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2025.

Remote sensing image features complicated background, big image size, small object pixels, and variable object direction due to the arbitrary shooting angle. Conventional object detector has poor detection effect on remote sensing image, which is prone to missed detection and false detection. In view of this, an improved YOLOv5 object detection algorithm was proposed for remote sensing image. First, the C3 module was improved. The output feature information of each convolutional module was transmitted to the deep network, so as to preserve more fine-grained feature information and enhance the small object detection capability. The improved downsampling mechanism integrates convolution downsampling with maximum pooling downsampling mechanism in downs amp ling to separate foreground and background information while retaining feature information. A lightweight rotatory decoupling detection head with implicit learning was proposed to address the conflict between regression and classification, thus improving the network detection capability for objects in any direction. In the meantime, an implicit learning matrix was added to guarantee the lightweight detection head and improve the network detection accuracy for multiple tasks. According to experimental results, under the same model size, compared with the original YOLOv5 detection method, the detection accuracy and detection speed of the proposed method were improved by 8% and 15 frames, or 14.7%, respectively on DOTA-v1.5 data set, effectively improving the detection accuracy and speed in remote sensing image detection. The detection accuracy was increased by 3.5% on coco data set in natural scenario. The method herein can still effectively improve the detection accuracy in natural scenario, proving effectiveness of the modified YOLOv5 method. © 2023 IEEE.

Seeking a Sense of Meaning and Companionship in Life: Informal Learning on Douyin Among Chinese Older Adults

This study examines how Chinese older adults leverage Douyin, a short video platform, for informal learning purposes, analyzing their usage patterns, motivations, and encountered challenges. Although Douyin was not explicitly designed with educational features, it has emerged as a significant informal learning platform for this demographic. Through a qualitative investigation comprising participant observations and semi-structured interviews with 17 participants, we reveal the distinctive learning experience that Douyin facilitates. The platform’s unique combination of short-form videos, live streaming capabilities, and interactive community features creates an engaging learning environment that particularly resonates with older adults. Our findings demonstrate that participants derive substantial social-emotional benefits beyond knowledge acquisition, including strengthened social connections, enhanced companionship, and a reinforced sense of purpose through their Douyin engagement. These social-emotional aspects emerge as crucial factors driving older adults’ selection of Douyin as their preferred learning platform. By providing comprehensive insights into older adults’ engagement with digital platforms for lifelong learning, this research offers valuable implications for HCI, particularly in understanding how technology can be optimized to support the learning needs of older populations. © 2025 Association for Computing Machinery. Due to its efficiency and versatility, the preconditioned conjugate gradient algorithm has long been a staple in the realm of iterative linear system solvers. In this paper, we proposed an optimized preconditioned conjugate gradient algorithm tailored for the SW26010-Pro manycore processor, The main work includes: Optimizing data block sizes based on the processor's storage structure;combining thread-level and data-level parallelism, utilizing manual SIMD to improve efficiency;optimizing the memory access pattern by employing direct memory access and overlapping of computation and communication;employing a shared-memory approach to store long vectors across all cores. Furthermore, we design an accelerated algorithm for reduction operations, to avoid data communication. Experimental results show that the hcaPCG yields up to 28.1× speedups on average compared to the original implementation. © 2023 IEEE.

The communication between vehicles and other entities occurs over open wireless networks, making them susceptible to various security attacks In Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET). Consequently, many researchers have proposed numerous data transmission and key exchange protocols to ensure secure communication within VANET. The keys and sensitive information involved in these protocols need to be stored long-Term in the tamper-resistant devices of vehicles. However, due to the limited resources of these devices, many encryption schemes are difficult to embed. Even if effective encryption schemes can be embedded in VANET, the long-Term storage of data in vehicles still carries a significant risk of being attacked. To tackle this problem, we propose an authentication protocol designed for VANET that emphasizes both physical security and privacy protection. The protocol primarily leverages the properties of Physical Unclonable Functions to achieve enhanced security. This approach eliminates the need for vehicles to store keys and sensitive messages long-Term, reducing the storage burden on vehicles while enhancing the system's security and efficiency. Detailed security analyses demonstrate that our proposed scheme achieves the goals of physical security and privacy protection. A comparison with similar approaches demonstrates that our solution outperforms them in both time efficiency and communication overhead. © 2024 IEEE.
