In recent years, millimeter wave (mmWave) antennas have garnered considerable attention, especially in the realm of 5G applications. This study introduces a compact wideband planar bowtie antenna designed specifically for 5G mmWave communications. The antenna consists of a pair of bowtie patches that are fed by a grounded co-planar waveguide (GCPW). Notably, this design requires only two thin substrate layers. Simulation results demonstrate that the antenna offers a broad bandwidth of 33.35% (34.62–47.96 GHz) and achieves a realized gain of 6.25 dBi at 40 GHz.

Compared with traditional voting methods, electronic voting can effectively avoid the phenomenon of fraud for personal gains in various links, it is faster and more accurate in the tallying stage. However, many electronic voting systems have many problems such as inability to verify ballots, easy to be forged, and low computing efficiency. We propose an electronic voting protocol based on homomorphic signcryption and blockchain. The protocol makes the voting process public through blockchain and replaces the traditional trusted third party with the smart contract. It uses the homomorphic encryption algorithm and the homomorphic signcryption algorithm to encrypt and sign the ballot and uses their aggregation properties to perform homomorphic tally on the encrypted votes. This not only reduces the excessive burden on the voters but also improves the voting efficiency. At the same time, it can satisfy the security of electronic voting, and the amount of calculation is small, so it is more convenient and flexible to use in large-scale voting. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Medical entity disambiguation (MED) plays a crucial role in natural language processing and biomedical domains, which is the task of mapping ambiguous medical mentions to structured candidate medical entities from knowledge bases (KBs). However, existing methods for MED often fail to fully utilize the knowledge within medical KBs and overlook essential interactions between medical mentions and candidate entities, resulting in knowledge- and interaction-inefficient modeling and suboptimal disambiguation performance. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel approach, MED with Medical Mention Relation and Fine-grained Entity Knowledge (MMR-FEK). Specifically, MMR-FEK incorporates a mention relation fusion module and an entity knowledge fusion module, followed by an interaction module. The former employs a relation graph convolutional network to fuse mention relation information between medical mentions to enhance mention representations, while the latter leverages an attention mechanism to fuse synonym and type information of candidate entities to enhance entity representations. Afterwards, an interaction module is designed to employ a bidirectional attention mechanism to capture interactions between medical mentions and entities to generate the matching representation. Extensive experiments on two publicly available real-world datasets demonstrate MMR-FEK's superiority over state-of-the-art(SOTA) MED baselines across all metrics. Digital-to-analog converter (DAC) plays an important role in a communication system, which determines the quality of the generated signal. A high-resolution DAC is necessary to guarantee the system performance. However, the application of a high-resolution DAC results in high system cost and power consumption, which is incompatible with the future low-cost data centers. To be cost-effective and energy-efficient, a system with low-resolution DAC and negligible quantization noise induced performance degradation is highly desirable. Noise shaping (NS) technique is proposed to effectively suppress the quantization noise induced by low-resolution DAC. In this paper, we review the principle of the NS technique, and its effectiveness is investigated experimentally in 100 Gb/s intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) PAM-4 system with low-resolution DAC. The experimental results show that the system with 4-bit DAC coupled with NS technique shows almost the same receiver sensitivity as the system with 8-bit DAC without NS technique over 2-km and 10-km single mode fiber (SMF) transmission in O-band. It indicates that significant performance improvement can be achieved by using NS technique in low-resolution DAC systems, and it is a promising solution for future low-cost data centers.

Discovery of Shared Latent Nonlinear Effective Connectivity for EEG-Based Depression Detection

Granger causality (GC) effective connectivity (EC) calculated from electroencephalogram (EEG) signals has been widely used in mental disorder detection. However, the existing methods only take into account linear dynamics or nonlinear dynamics within a single sample, ignoring the nonlinear dynamics shared by the same class of subjects. In this article, a model combining graph neural networks (GNNs) and variational autoencoders (VAEs) is proposed to construct shared latent nonlinear EC from raw EEG signals for depression detection. Several convolution modules and fully connected layers are used in the graph encoding network to learn the embeddings of the connectivity connected by every two EEG channels. In the graph decoding network, a class-specific Gaussian mixture model (GMM) is introduced in the VAEs to model shared dynamics in EC of the same class of subjects, and the shared dynamics combine the encoded embeddings of the EC and the past time series to restore raw EEG signals. Through a node-to-edge encoding process and an edge-to-node decoding process, the shared latent nonlinear EC in EEG signals can ultimately be learned by gradually optimizing the model’s loss function. The performance of the proposed method is verified on several open-accessed datasets. The excellent results prove that the proposed neural networks can learn more generalized nonlinear EC representations, and shared latent dynamics discovery can also help to identify depression better. In the process of large-scale industrial production, complex defects of different shapes and sizes can occur in industrial products and their components, and these defects seriously affect the performance of industrial products and their components, and being able to quickly and accurately identify defective industrial products and their components is an important task. Memory-based methods are usually used for anomaly detection, and these methods often rely on pre-trained models for feature extraction, but have high requirements on feature quality. In addition, patch-based methods mainly focus on local differences in feature embedding when detecting anomalies without explicitly exploiting broader contextual information, thus greatly affecting the robustness and accuracy of anomaly detection. Aiming at the above problems and requirements, this paper proposes a Feature Aggregation Network for Memory-Based Industrial Anomaly Detection (FANet), which is based on the pre-extraction of anomalous features, attentional attention to key features, information aggregation of multi-level and multi-scale features, and the FANet provides advanced performance in industrial image anomaly detection and localisation by pre-extraction of anomalous features, attentional attention to key features, information aggregation of multi-layered and multi-scale features, and introduction of environmental information in the anomaly score computation to perform industrial anomaly detection tasks, and using core set subsampling to reduce storage requirements. On the MVTec AD, FANet has an image-level AUROC score of 99.1% and a pixel-level AUROC score of 98.2%. Similarly high detection results were achieved on the ViSA dataset, further demonstrating the robustness of FANet. © 2024 IEEE.

Throughout the process of machine unlearning, in order to fulfill the requirements of machine unlearning and to comply with the rules of the right to be forgotten, it is natural to verify whether the unlearning model actually removes data points. Therefore, machine unlearning verification plays a crucial role. However, existing validation methods only perform one validation, and it is still challenging to determine whether subsequent updates of the model still maintain the unlearning effect. To address this challenge, we propose a novel continuous verification of catastrophic recalling in machine unlearning framework that aims to continuously evaluate whether a machine learning model effectively forgets specified data after an update. In this work, we first introduce adversarial testing as a crucial part of the overall framework. Verification then continues as the unlearned model is updated (adding or continuing to forget data points). We also analyzed the possibility that learning new data after unlearning may diminish the effect. Overall, our continuous unlearning verification framework provides a proactive approach to protecting individual privacy in the machine learning domain, thus facilitating the generation of more robust unlearning algorithms. © 2024 IEEE.

Existing action detection approaches do not take spatio-temporal structural relationships of action clips into account, which leads to a low applicability in real-world scenarios and can benefit detecting if exploited. To this end, this paper proposes to formulate the action detection problem as a reinforcement learning process which is rewarded by observing both the clip sampling and classification results via adjusting the detection schemes. In particular, our framework consists of a heterogeneous graph convolutional network to represent the spatio-temporal features capturing the inherent relation, a policy network which determines the probabilities of a predefined action sampling spaces, and a classification network for action clip recognition. We accomplish the network joint learning by considering the temporal intersection over union and Euclidean distance between detected clips and ground-truth. Experiments on ActivityNet v1.3 and THUMOS14 demonstrate our method. © 2023 IEEE.
