Cloud data centers consume vast amounts of electrical energy all over the world. Energy conservation in data centers has become a severe problem. This paper presents an energyefficient virtual machine（VM） consolidation algorithm for cloud data centers. The proposed policy exploits the average utilization of each VM to estimate the expected utilization of physical hosts. Then, the expected utilization, the actual utilization and the static threshold are combined together to determine whether a host is at the status of overloading or not. Some VM（s） on the overloading hosts are then selected for migration to avoid Service Level Agreements（SLA） violations. The results of the experiment show that the proposed algorithm can effectively reduce energy consumption while guarantee SLAs.

SPECT bone imaging is among the main nuclear medicine functional imaging modalities, which has the potential of early diagnosis of various serious diseases such as cancers. However, the low resolution and contrast of SPECT bone images bring huge challenges to performance on segmenting hotspots or lesions in SPECT bone scan images. In this work, three different algorithms including K-means clustering method, region growth method and C-V model are introduced to segment lesions in SPECT bone scan images by fine-tuning parameters, focusing on the bone metastatic lesions area in SPECT imaging. Specifically, each of the original 256×1024 whole body images is cropped into a 256×256 thoracic region including ribs and spine, followed by the data normalization. Then, different parameters are experimentally determined for the above three algorithms, leading to three different segmentation algorithms. Last, experimental evaluation conducted on a group of real-world samples of SPECT bone scan images reveals that our methods are workable for segmenting lesions with SPECT imaging, obtaining a value of 0.7307, 0.7768 and 0.8076 for Tanimoto similarity coefficient metric by the three methods, respectively. Particularly, the C-V model based segmentation method is able to provide more assistive information for oncologists on diagnose of tumors and other related diseases. © 2020 IEEE.

Recently, there is a surge of interest in applying pre-trained language models (Pr-LM) in automatic open-domain dialog evaluation. Pr-LMs offer a promising direction for addressing the multi-domain evaluation challenge. Yet, the impact of different Pr-LMs on the performance of automatic metrics is not well-understood. This paper examines eight different Pr-LMs and studies their impact on three typical automatic dialog evaluation metrics across three different dialog evaluation benchmarks. Specifically, we analyze how the choice of Pr-LMs affects the performance of automatic metrics. Extensive correlation analyses on each of the metrics are performed to assess the effects of different Pr-LMs along various axes, including pre-training objectives, dialog evaluation criteria, model size, and cross-dataset robustness. This study serves as the first comprehensive assessment of the effects of different Pr-LMs on automatic dialog evaluation. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With the rapid development of Internet technology and the continuous explosive growth of network traffic, Traffic Engineering (TE), as a viable method for optimizing network traffic distribution and improving network performance, attracts widespread attention from both industry and academia. Software Defined Networks (SDN), which decouples the data plane and the control plane, realizes a flexible routing and improves the TE performance. Existing TE approaches in SDN mainly utilize Reinforcement Learning (RL) methods to learn the mapping relationship between network traffic and routing policies. However, due to the continuous expansion of network size and dynamic changes in traffic, the enlargement of traffic state space hinders RL from converging to the optimal routing policy, leading to a decline in network performance. To address these issues, this paper presents a TE method based on unsupervised contrastive representation and RL. This method first shrinks the original traffic state space by efficiently extracting traffic features through Contrastive Learning (CL), aiding quick convergence of RL. It then uses RL to directly learn the mapping from traffic features to traffic splitting policies. Finally, through numerous experiments on real network traffic and topology, it demonstrates that the proposed TE method can effectively achieve load balancing of network traffic under complex and volatile dynamic traffic demands, thereby enhancing network performance. © 2024 IEEE.

With the continuous development of intelligent transportation technologies such as autonomous driving and navigation, accurate perception of road markings becomes crucial. However, due to limitations in sensor perspectives and obstacles blocking the view, the scanned point cloud of road markings is often incomplete, potentially leading to erroneous decisions in intelligent transportation systems. Therefore, it becomes imperative to recover complete road markings from these incomplete point clouds. This paper proposes a text-guided road marking completion method, which integrates text information with point cloud data using attention mechanisms. By leveraging text information to guide the network in completing road marking point clouds, the proposed method aims to enhance the perception accuracy and completeness of road markings. Experimental validation on road marking datasets demonstrates the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed approach. © 2024 IEEE.

Communities exist anywhere in various complex networks, and community evolution tracking is one of the most well-liked areas of inquiry in the study of dynamic complex networks. Community evolution tracking has many applications in daily life, such as predicting social network behaviors or analyzing the spread of infectious illnesses. However, the majority of existing evolution tracking algorithms obtain community detection results before matching the community in tracking evolution events, making it difficult to trace the whole evolution of communities because of community matching errors. In addition, the majority of evolution tracking algorithms do not adequately account for the potential scenarios in community evolution, resulting in erroneous detection of evolution events. In this research, a community evolution tracking algorithm based on edge variation discerning and core node extension is proposed. First, we detect communities based on the core node extension strategy, which avoids the problem of community matching errors. Second, we track community evolution based on the edge variation discerning strategy, which fully considers various situations that may occur during the community evolution process. According to the outputs of our experiments, our system can effectively track the evolution of communities in synthetic dynamic networks. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

As for autonomous driving in urban environments, it is of significance to accurately capture the position and pose of vehicles. Those information can assist self-driving system in making right decisions to avoid potential risks. Currently, 3D point clouds captured by laser scanners are widely used in self-driving systems to sense the real environment. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a deep reinforcement learning framework for vehicle detection and pose estimation by using 3D point clouds. Specifically, to estimate the pose of vehicles, we propose to design a rotation action in Deep Q Network (DQN). In addition, by considering the whole detection procedure as Markov Decision Process (MDP), our intermediate detected results can further improve the detection performance of our proposed method. The evaluations are carried on outdoor point cloud scenes captured by VMX450 laser scanning system. The experimental results demonstrate the satisfied performance on vehicle detection and pose estimation. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

As cloud computing gains widespread adoption, cloud storage services have become the primary means of data management for users. Authenticated data structures (ADS) are a novel computational model designed to address data authentication problems in distributed environments. With the growing demand for robust data security, vulnerability detection in storage systems has become a critical area of focus to ensure resilience against potential threats. However, traditional ADS, while ensuring consistency between cloud data and source data, have limitations in handling dynamic data operations on multiple types of files, storage space expansion, and single-point failure issues. To tackle these issues, this paper proposes a blockchain-assisted classifiable data auditing scheme with dynamic operations. First, trapdoor hash functions are used to construct a binary tree. During dynamic data operations, the impact of hash updates is confined to a subset of nodes, ensuring global stability and reducing computational resource consumption. Second, innovative data structures and verification mechanisms are introduced, reducing the risk of single-point failures by decentralizing the dependency on verification paths. Finally, data types are confirmed based on data identifiers, and corresponding path information is recorded, enabling efficient and rapid dynamic operations on specific types of files within multi-source data. Both security analysis and performance assessment demonstrate that BCDAS conducts data auditing for with reliability and efficiency.

The issue of data center power consumption is becoming increasingly serious. One of the most effective techniques for increasing resource utilization and lowering power consumption is virtual machine consolidation. This paper proposes a threshold-based energy-efficient and SLA-aware algorithm for virtual machine migration and consolidation. Based on statistics and analysis of historical virtual machine status, the algorithm dynamically obtains the upper CPU utilization threshold of the physical servers and identifies whether to perform the virtual machine migration, so as to reduce the number of active hosts to save energy. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has better comprehensive performance. When compared to the existing algorithm, our method can effectively decrease energy consumption and SLA violations. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Massive Open Online Course(MOOC) is a new teaching mode appeared in recent years and its emergence has constituted some challenge to the traditional teaching. However, MOOCs teaching mode has both advantages and disadvantages. In this paper, both the merits and the demerits of MOOC education are analyzed. We point out that the MOOC education mode and the traditional face-to-face classroom instruction should be combined together so as to improve the teaching effectiveness in modern education. Finally, how to blend the MOOC mode and the traditional classroom teaching and further utilize the network platform to improve the teaching efficiency in several learning phases are examined.
