In machine learning, data privacy and security has become an increasingly growing concern. The introduction of machine unlearning offers the ability to address this issue through the removal of personal and sensitive data from trained models to comply with laws, regulations, and user privacy requirements. However, despite the significant benefits of this technique, performing unlearning operations is only sometimes smooth in practice. When we attempt to remove specific data, the model may over-adjust, resulting in its performance on unlearned data. This phenomenon not only reduces the accuracy of the model on known data but also affects its ability to generalize new data, thus weakening the model’s overall performance. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the phenomenon of over-unlearning;firstly, we explore how to mitigate the effects of over-unlearning by generating synthetic data to fill in the forgotten parts, using data synthesis-based techniques. Secondly, we combine the data synthesis-based compensation strategy with model fine-tuning to further improve the model’s adaptability and generalization capability by further training the model to accommodate synthetic data. Through comprehensive experimentation, we verify the effectiveness of the proposed data synthesis-based compensation strategy. The experimental results show that the data synthesis-based compensation strategy can effectively mitigate the effects of the over-unlearning phenomenon, as well as maintaining the stability and accuracy of the model after removing specific data. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Large language models (LLMs), as a significant direction in the development of artificial intelligence in recent years, are becoming increasingly popular. These models demonstrate significant potential in applications such as personalized services, simulated dialogues, role-playing, and specific compliance requirements. However, with the continuous expansion of LLMs’ practical applications, selective knowledge management of the models—particularly the ability to make the models "forget" certain domain-specific or topic-specific knowledge without impacting their overall performance or knowledge in other areas—has emerged as a critical issue that demands resolution. We proposes an innovative knowledge domain forgetting method designed to enable models to selectively forget specified knowledge without the need for fine-tuning. The method identifies and removes steering vectors associated with specific knowledge domains, thereby achieving effective forgetting of specific knowledge. The proposed approach has been evaluated in several popular open-source LLMs. Experimental results show that this method achieves good knowledge forgetting effects across diverse scenarios and exhibits notable practical value. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Detailed system operations are recorded in logs. To ensure system reliability, developers can detect system anomalies through log anomaly detection. Log parsing, which converts semi-structured log messages into structured data, is a crucial step in log anomaly detection and advanced program analysis and verification. Despite the availability of various log parsing tools, they generally suffer from low parsing accuracy and slow efficiency due to the ignorance of variable characteristics and the use of costly pairwise comparison methods. In this paper, we propose a TCMS framework to parse logs, consisting of two main technologies. First, by studying 16 public log datasets, we find that most log variable tokens are structured variable tokens. Based on this discovery, we propose a token conversion algorithm to improve parsing accuracy. This algorithm converts the changed parts in structured variable tokens into wildcards (‘’), preventing these tokens from being directly identified as constant tokens. Second, to improve efficiency, we propose the LogMLCS algorithm, which intelligently constructs a graph to facilitate the extraction of common parts from multiple log messages at once, instead of using pairwise comparisons. Comprehensive experiments conducted on 16 log datasets reveal that our TCMS outperforms seven other parsing methods, achieving the highest parsing accuracy at the fastest speed. Furthermore, experimental results from running a log anomaly detection algorithm in conjunction with different log parsing methods demonstrate that TCMS significantly boosts detection accuracy. For instance, on the OpenStack dataset, our TCMS-facilitated log anomaly detection algorithm achieves a perfect F1-score, precision, and recall of 100% each, surpassing the best peer method by 32.2, 0.8, and 19.5 percentage points, respectively. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

A privacy-aware and fair self-exchanging self-trading scheme for IoT data based on smart contract

With the development of the era of big data, the demand for data sharing and usage is increasing, especially in the era of the internet of things, thus putting forward a keen demand for data exchanging and data trading. However, the existing data exchanging and trading platforms are usually centralised and users have to trust platforms. This paper proposes a secure and fair exchanging and trading protocol based on blockchain and smart contracts, especially, self-governance without relying on centralised trust. By using the protocol, it can guarantee fairness to defend against trade cheating, and security for data confidentiality. It can also guarantee efficiency by transferring data links instead of data between data owners and data buyers. The extensive analysis justified that the proposed scheme can facilitate self-exchanging and self-trading for big data in a secure, fair and efficient manner. For decades, network virtualization plays a crucial role in modern networks, e.g., 6G mobile networks: tenants construct arbitrary virtual networks on the same physical network. However, production networks are becoming programmable and need more ways of network configurations. So prior techniques like SDN hypervisors are deprecated since they cannot configure programmable networks. In response, a new category of network virtualization techniques has emerged recently to virtualize programmable networks, i.e., programmable network hypervisors (PNHs). This article first reviews this trend to comprehensively survey PNHs. To understand their benefits, we build a testbed with hardware switches and sophisticated topologies. Our testbed experiments stress-test hypervisors and demonstrate that they outperform prior works with higher acceptance ratios of virtual networks under large-scale scenarios and heavy loads. Finally, we highlight the open issues of these techniques to shed light on the future directions in this promising topic. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Machine learning (ML) relies on large amounts of data for training, which often requires outsourcing data to cloud servers. This raises concerns about data integrity and security. Preventing data from being tampered with or lost during storage and transmission has become a critical issue in the ML process. This paper presents a novel data auditing scheme for cloud-based ML, which supports multi-keyword search functionality. It allows searching one or more keywords to ensure the integrity of data in model training. To avoid data privacy leakage, the keywords are encrypted during the auditing process. Only the encrypted keywords of the data required for model training need to be provided to the third-party auditor (TPA). Subsequently, TPA can check and ensure the integrity of the relevant data. Through security analysis and performance evaluations, the results indicate that this scheme can effectively and reliably audit outsourced data while ensuring the security and privacy of model training data. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

FDAC: Federated Domain Adaptation via Dual Contrastive Learning

Federated domain adaptation (FDA) aims to transfer knowledge collaboratively from multiple source domains to related but different unlabelled target domains. The data of each domain are locally maintained, and various domain gaps exist among them, resulting in extreme challenges in simultaneously mitigating diverse distribution shifts and preserving discriminative knowledge without accessing the source data. Many existing works have failed to fully explore different source models to measure domain shifts and leverage semantic knowledge, resulting in skewed alignment and partial preservation of discriminative information. In this paper, we propose a novel approach named FDAC to address Federated Domain Adaptation by thoroughly investigating source models via dual Contrastive mechanisms. FDAC contrastively increases the data diversity to align features across domains in a fine-grained manner by manipulating the latent deep architecture and compensating for knowledge from each source domain;simultaneously, it contrastively utilizes the comprehensive semantic knowledge of different source domains to guide the adaptation process. Extensive experiments on several real datasets demonstrate that FDAC outperforms all comparative methods under most conditions. Furthermore, FDAC only needs approximately half of the communication rounds compared with the state-of-the-art methods, indicating that FDAC can significantly improve communication efficiency, which is another key factor in the federated setting. MEFA-Net: A mask enhanced feature aggregation network for polyp segmentation

Accurate polyp segmentation is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. This is a challenging task for three main reasons: (i) the problem of model overfitting and weak generalization due to the multi-center distribution of data;(ii) the problem of interclass ambiguity caused by motion blur and overexposure to endoscopic light;and (iii) the problem of intraclass inconsistency caused by the variety of morphologies and sizes of the same type of polyps. To address these challenges, we propose a new high-precision polyp segmentation framework, MEFA-Net, which consists of three modules, including the plug-and-play Mask Enhancement Module (MEG), Separable Path Attention Enhancement Module (SPAE), and Dynamic Global Attention Pool Module (DGAP). Specifically, firstly, the MEG module regionally masks the high-energy regions of the environment and polyps through a mask, which guides the model to rely on only a small amount of information to distinguish between polyps and background features, avoiding the model from overfitting the environmental information, and improving the robustness of the model. At the same time, this module can effectively counteract the "dark corner phenomenon" in the dataset and further improve the generalization performance of the model. Next, the SPAE module can effectively alleviate the inter-class fuzzy problem by strengthening the feature expression. Then, the DGAP module solves the intra-class inconsistency problem by extracting the invariance of scale, shape and position. Finally, we propose a new evaluation metric, MultiColoScore, for comprehensively evaluating the segmentation performance of the model on five datasets with different domains. We evaluated the new method quantitatively and qualitatively on five datasets using four metrics. Experimental results show that MEFA-Net significantly improves the accuracy of polyp segmentation and outperforms current state-of-the-art algorithms. Code posted on https://***/

The inherent complexity of Wi-Fi signals makes video-aided Wi-Fi 3D pose estimation difficult. The challenges include the limited generalizability of the task across diverse environments, its significant signal heterogeneity, and its inadequate ability to analyze local and geometric information. To overcome these challenges, we introduce WiViPose, a video-aided Wi-Fi framework for 3D pose estimation, which attains enhanced cross-environment generalization through cross-layer optimization. Bilinear temporal-spectral fusion (BTSF) is initially used to fuse the time-domain and frequency-domain features derived from Wi-Fi. Video features are derived from a multiresolution convolutional pose machine and enhanced by local self-attention. Cross-modality data fusion is facilitated through an attention-based transformer, with the process further refined under a supervisory mechanism. WiViPose demonstrates effectiveness by achieving an average percentage of correct keypoints (PCK)@50 of 91.01% across three typical indoor environments. © 2025 IEEE.

Surface reconstruction of dynamic scenes from single view videos is a challenging task due to the highly ill-posed and under-constrained nature. Existing single view reconstruction methods suffer from severe quality issues, such as surface distortion and mesh adherison. In this paper, we propose an efficient dynamic representation network, PD-SDF, which consists of a 4D motion field and a 3D geometry field. The explicit disentanglement of motion and geometry based on planar factorization guarantees the mesh consistency across frames. Specifically, to address the mesh adhesion problem, we design a depth-guided sampling strategy to focus on optimizing the SDF field near the object surface. Due to insufficient geometric cues, we design various regularization strategies to constrain smoothness and topological correcness of the scene geometry. Extensive experiments show that our method outperforms existing methods in both appearance and geometry reconstruction. The project page: https://***/. © 2025 IEEE.
