Overlapping Community Detection Based on Influence and Seeds Extension

Community detection is a significant research direction in the research of social networks. To improve the quality of seeds selection and expansion, we propose an influence seeds extension overlapping community detection (i-SEOCD) algorithm for overlapping community detection. First, i-SEOCD uses a node influence strategy to find the seed communities with tight structures. Second, on the basis of the seed communities, we calculate the similarity among communities and their neighbor nodes. The nodes whose similarity is greater than a predefined threshold are selected. Third, the strategy of optimizing a self-adaptive function is adopted to expand the communities. Finally, the free nodes in the network are assigned to their corresponding communities in order to find out all the overlapping community structures. Experiments on the real and artificial networks show that i-SEOCD is capable of discovering overlapping communities in complex social networks efficiently. © 2019, Chinese Institute of Electronics. This paper presents a self-training word embedding text classification model based on knowledge graph expansion for text classification. Current mixed word embedding methods are overly dependent on the Fasttext pre-training model and here is still a problem of missing words with rich semantic information are not mapped. First, we propose a method for extracting missing nouns based on shape near word filtering. Second, we design a self-training word embedding method based on knowledge graph that mixes with pre-training word embedding to obtain a high-quality mixed word vector with rich semantics and rich semantics. Third, we designed a GRU model based on improved mixed word embedding to improve the quality of text classification. Experiments conducted on multiple text classification datasets demonstrate that our methods can effectively improve the text classification accuracy.

Federated Graph Learning (FGL) has garnered widespread attention by enabling collaborative training on multiple clients for semi-supervised classification tasks. However, most existing FGL studies do not well consider the missing inter-client topology information in real-world scenarios, causing insufficient feature aggregation of multi-hop neighbor clients during model training. Moreover, the classic FGL commonly adopts the FedAvg but neglects the high training costs when the number of clients expands, resulting in the overload of a single edge server. To address these important challenges, we propose a novel FGL framework, named SpreadFGL, to promote the information flow in edge-client collaboration and extract more generalized potential relationships between clients. In SpreadFGL, an adaptive graph imputation generator incorporated with a versatile assessor is first designed to exploit the potential links between subgraphs, without sharing raw data. Next, a new negative sampling mechanism is developed to make SpreadFGL concentrate on more refined information in downstream tasks. To facilitate load balancing at the edge layer, SpreadFGL follows a distributed training manner that enables fast model convergence. Using real-world testbed and benchmark graph datasets, extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed SpreadFGL. The results show that SpreadFGL achieves higher accuracy and faster convergence against state-of-the-art algorithms.

In the era of big data, HBase has been widely used in scenarios of massive unstructured data. For the financial big data, due to the integrity and timing of it, unreasonable data storage and management usually lead to hot spots that decreases the query performance. In practice, the separation of hot and cold financial data will improve data query performance and utilization rate of cluster resources. In this paper, a hot and cold data separation scheme is designed, to store infrequently queried financial data to HBase, and frequently queried one to Redis. The cold data is reasonably planned and managed through pre-partitioning and row key design for HBase. A hot data cache based on Redis is realized to improve the query speed and reduces the pressure of HBase. In addition, due to the lack of Redis's inherent cache elimination strategy, we propose a caching strategy based on the frequencies of updating and querying operations. The experimental results show that the scheme can effectively avoid the hot storage problem, and improve the query performance, and improve the cache hit ratio of Redis. Therefore, the number of cold data access requests can be effectively reduced.

Introduction To develop and validate a machine learning model based on dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) for predicting cervical lymph node metastases (CLNM) in patients diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods This prospective single-center study enrolled patients with NPC and the study assessment included both DECT and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT). Radiomics features were extracted from each region of interest (ROI) for cervical lymph nodes using arterial and venous phase images at 100 keV and 150 keV, either individually as non-fusion models or combined as fusion models on the DECT images. The performance of the random forest (RF) models, combined with radiomics features, was evaluated by area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) analysis. DeLong's test was employed to compare model performances, while decision curve analysis (DCA) assessed the clinical utility of the predictive models. Results Sixty-six patients with NPC were included for analysis, which was divided into a training set (n = 42) and a validation set (n = 22). A total of 13 radiomic models were constructed (4 non-fusion models and 9 fusion models). In the non-fusion models, when the threshold value exceeded 0.4, the venous phase at 100 keV (V100) (AUC, 0.9667; 95 % confidence interval [95 % CI], 0.9363–0.9901) model exhibited a higher net benefit than other non-fusion models. The V100 + V150 fusion model achieved the best performance, with an AUC of 0.9697 (95 % CI, 0.9393–0.9907). Conclusion DECT-based radiomics effectively diagnosed CLNM in patients with NPC and may potentially be a valuable tool for clinical decision-making. Implications for practice This study improved pre-operative evaluation, treatment strategy selection, and prognostic evaluation for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma by combining DECT and radiomics to predict cervical lymph node status prior to treatment.

SPECT bone imaging is an important means to assist doctors in diagnosing diseases. The traditional processing method is that radiologists diagnose images. Manual diagnosis is not only cumbersome and time-consuming, but also different diagnosis results will be caused by the different diagnosis experience of doctors. In view of the above problems, this paper uses U-Net network as the basic model, and at the same time conducts model performance optimization research. Based on the U-Net network, the attention mechanism is integrated to segment the bone metastases in the pelvic area. Introducing the attention mechanism into the U-Net network can help improve the correlation of the pelvic region and reduce the interference caused by problems such as uneven brightness and low contrast to the model. Through multiple sets of experimental demonstrations, the U-Net network integrated with the attention mechanism can better segment bone metastases in the pelvic region based on SPECT images, and the model indicators have been significantly improved.

Label distribution learning quantifies the label space for each instance and has widely applicability in different fields. However, most existing works primarily focus on label correlation, but they still have a limitation in capturing instance correlation. Meanwhile, traditional label distribution learning operates on individual labels sequentially, leading to limitation in applying common features. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel approach for label distribution learning with correlation information i.e. instance correlation and label correlation. Specifically, the instance correlation and label correlation are identified by an optimization function and Pearson correlation coefficient, respectively. Besides, we conduct $\ell_{2,1}-$norm regularization to exploit common features. Comprehensive experiments manifest the superiority of our proposed approach against other well-established label distribution learning algorithms. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The automatic detection of skin diseases via dermoscopic images can improve the efficiency in diagnosis and help doctors make more accurate judgments. However, conventional skin disease recognition systems may produce high confidence for out-of-distribution (OOD) data, which may become a major security vulnerability in practical applications. In this paper, we propose a multi-scale detection framework to detect out-of-distribution skin disease image data to ensure the robustness of the system. Our framework extracts features from different layers of the neural network. In the early layers, rectified activation is used to make the output features closer to the well-behaved distribution, and then an one-class SVM is trained to detect OOD data;in the penultimate layer, an adapted Gram matrix is used to calculate the features after rectified activation, and finally the layer with the best performance is chosen to compute a normality score. Experiments show that the proposed framework achieves superior performance when compared with other state-of-the-art methods in the task of skin disease recognition. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

PoE: a Panel of Experts for Generalized Automatic Dialogue Assessment

Chatbots are expected to be knowledgeable across multiple domains, e.g. for daily chit-chat, exchange of information, and grounding in emotional situations. To effectively measure the quality of such conversational agents, a model-based automatic dialogue evaluation metric (ADEM) is expected to perform well across multiple domains. Despite significant progress, an ADEM that works well in one domain does not necessarily generalize to another. This calls for a dedicated network architecture for domain generalization. To tackle the multi-domain dialogue evaluation task, we propose a Panel of Experts (PoE), a multitask network that consists of a shared transformer encoder and a collection of lightweight adapters. The shared encoder captures the general knowledge of dialogues across domains, while each adapter specializes in one specific domain and serves as a domain expert. To validate the idea, we construct a high-quality multi-domain dialogue dataset leveraging data augmentation and pseudo labeling. The PoE network is comprehensively assessed on 16 dialogue evaluation datasets spanning a wide range of dialogue domains. It achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of mean Spearman correlation over all the evaluation datasets. It exhibits better zero-shot generalization than existing state-of-the-art ADEMs and the ability to easily adapt to new domains with few-shot transfer learning. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Bayesian Functional Analysis for Untargeted Metabolomics data with Matching Uncertainty and Small Sample Sizes

Untargeted metabolomics based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry technology is quickly gaining widespread application given its ability to depict the global metabolic pattern in biological samples. However, the data is noisy and plagued by the lack of clear identity of data features measured from samples. Multiple potential matchings exist between data features and known metabolites, while the truth can only be one-to-one matches. Some existing methods attempt to reduce the matching uncertainty, but are far from being able to remove the uncertainty for most features. The existence of the uncertainty causes major difficulty in downstream functional analysis. To address these issues, we develop a novel approach for Bayesian Analysis of Untargeted Metabolomics data (BAUM) to integrate previously separate tasks into a single framework, including matching uncertainty inference, metabolite selection, and functional analysis. By incorporating the knowledge graph between variables and using relatively simple assumptions, BAUM can analyze datasets with small sample sizes. By allowing different confidence levels of feature-metabolite matching, the method is applicable to datasets in which feature identities are partially known. Simulation studies demonstrate that, compared with other existing methods, BAUM achieves better accuracy in selecting important metabolites that tend to be functionally consistent and assigning confidence scores to feature-metabolite matches. We analyze a COVID-19 metabolomics dataset and a mouse brain metabolomics dataset using BAUM. Even with a very small sample size of 16 mice per group, BAUM is robust and stable. It finds pathways that conform to existing knowledge, as well as novel pathways that are biologically plausible. © 2023, CC BY.
