Towards Robust Video Anomaly Detection in 6G Networks: A Scene-Adaptive Framework

With the rapid advancement of 5th Generation (5G) networks, their low latency and high bandwidth facilitate the development of smart city systems. Among the smart city systems, anomaly detection in surveillance videos has been an essential part due to its importance to public safety and security. With the transition to 6G technology, the practical applications of video anomaly detection are expanding to encompass a variety of scenarios, such as sidewalks, shopping malls and campuses, which exhibit significant differences. However, most existing anomaly detection methods deployed in the cloud typically rely on the fixed datasets for training and apply the trained uniform model to the edge services across different scenarios. The distinct environmental conditions may lead to varying performance of a uniform anomaly detection model. To alleviate these issues, we propose a scene-adaptive video anomaly detection framework in 6G-based applications. The proposed framework leverages the advantages of 6G networks to facilitate localized processing and rapid adaptation to diverse environments. To enable the anomaly detection model to adapt more robustly to local environments, the proposed framework integrates a pre-trained model and simulates anomalies to train the anomaly detection model in a denoising manner. By integrating pre-trained teacher models with edge computing nodes, the proposed method facilitates accurate anomaly detection while maintaining robust performance across varying scenarios. The framework utilizes both original data and simulated anomalous data to fine-tune the edge model, ensuring it aligns with the unique characteristics of each environment. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method across different scenarios, enabling smarter and more responsive surveillance systems in the 6G era. © 2025 IEEE.

In the domain of facial recognition security, multimodal Face Anti-Spoofing (FAS) is essential for countering presentation attacks. However, existing technologies encounter challenges due to modality biases and imbalances, as well as domain shifts. Our research introduces a Mixture of Experts (MoE) model to address these issues effectively. We identified three limitations in traditional MoE approaches to multimodal FAS: (1) Coarse-grained experts’ inability to capture nuanced spoofing indicators; (2) Gated networks’ susceptibility to input noise affecting decision-making; (3) MoE’s sensitivity to prompt tokens leading to overfitting with conventional learning methods. To mitigate these, we propose the Bypass Isolated Gating MoE (BIG-MoE) framework, featuring: (1) Fine-grained experts for enhanced detection of subtle spoofing cues; (2) An isolation gating mechanism to counteract input noise; (3) A novel differential convolutional prompt bypass enriching the gating network with critical local features, thereby improving perceptual capabilities. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets demonstrate significant generalization performance improvement in multimodal FAS task. The code is released at https://***/murInJ/BIG-MoE.

Learning with Open-world Noisy data via Class-independent Margin in Dual Representation Space

Learning with Noisy Labels (LNL) aims to improve the model generalization when facing data with noisy labels, and existing methods generally assume that noisy labels come from known classes, called closed-set noise. However, in real-world scenarios, noisy labels from similar unknown classes, i.e., open-set noise, may occur during the training and inference stage. Such open-world noisy labels may significantly impact the performance of LNL methods. In this study, we propose a novel dual-space joint learning method to robustly handle the open-world noise. To mitigate model overfitting on closed-set and open-set noises, a dual representation space is constructed by two networks. One is a projection network that learns shared representations in the prototype space, while the other is a One-Vs-All (OVA) network that makes predictions using unique semantic representations in the class-independent space. Then, bi-level contrastive learning and consistency regularization are introduced in two spaces to enhance the detection capability for data with unknown classes. To benefit from the memorization effects across different types of samples, class-independent margin criteria are designed for sample identification, which selects clean samples, weights closed-set noise, and filters open-set noise effectively. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods and achieves an average accuracy improvement of 4.55% and an AUROC improvement of 6.17% on CIFAR80N. Transformer and its derivatives have achieved success in diverse tasks across computer vision, natural language processing, and speech processing. To reduce the complexity of computations within the multi-head self-attention mechanism in Transformer, Selective State Space Models (i.e., Mamba) were proposed as an alternative. Mamba exhibited its effectiveness in natural language processing and computer vision tasks, but its superiority has rarely been investigated in speech signal processing. This paper explores solutions for applying Mamba to speech processing by discussing two typical speech processing tasks: speech recognition, which requires semantic and sequential information, and speech enhancement, which focuses primarily on sequential patterns. The experimental results confirm that bidirectional Mamba (BiMamba) consistently outperforms vanilla Mamba, highlighting the advantages of a bidirectional design for speech processing. Moreover, experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of BiMamba as an alternative to the self-attention module in the Transformer model and its derivates, particularly for the semantic-aware task. The crucial technologies for transferring Mamba to speech are then summarized in ablation studies and the discussion section, offering insights for extending this research to a broader scope of tasks.

Genetic algorithms (GAs) are a powerful class of optimization techniques inspired by the principles of natural selection and genetics. One of the theoretical cornerstones of GAs is schema theory, which provides a framework for understanding how building blocks of solutions, known as schemas, are propagated and combined through generations. This review paper aims to provide a comprehensive theoretical analysis of schema formation in genetic algorithms. It delves into the foundational principles of schema theory, including the schema theorem and its implications for the efficiency and behavior of GAs. The paper also explores advanced topics such as schema disruption mechanisms, the impact of multimodal and epistatic fitness landscapes, and the integration of schema theory with hybrid approaches. Additionally, practical implications and real-world applications of schema theory are discussed through case studies and best practices. By elucidating the mechanisms of schema formation and their influence on genetic algorithm performance, this review seeks to offer valuable insights and directions for future research. The development of effective drug therapies is a complex and multifaceted problem involving various biological, chemical, and computational challenges. Traditional drug development methods are often time-consuming and costly, necessitating innovative approaches. Multi-objective genetic algorithms (MOGAs) have emerged as a powerful tool for optimizing drug design by simultaneously considering multiple conflicting objectives, such as efficacy, safety, and cost. This paper reviews the application of MOGAs in drug discovery, highlighting their principles, advantages, and case studies, and discussing future directions in the field. Enhancing MOGAs in drug discovery are also outlined, emphasizing the integration with machine learning, advancements in computational infrastructure, and the potential for personalized medicine. Slot filling and intent detection are two highly correlated tasks in spoken language understanding (SLU). Recent SLU research attempts to explore zero-shot prompting techniques in large language models to alleviate the data scarcity problem. Nevertheless, the existing prompting work ignores the cross-task interaction information for SLU, which leads to sub-optimal performance. To solve this problem, we present the pioneering work of Cross-task Interactive Prompting (CroPrompt) for SLU, which enables the model to interactively leverage the information exchange across the correlated tasks in SLU. Additionally, we further introduce a multi-task self-consistency mechanism to mitigate the error propagation caused by the intent information injection. We conduct extensive experiments on the standard SLU benchmark and the results reveal that CroPrompt consistently outperforms the existing prompting approaches. In addition, the multi-task self-consistency mechanism can effectively ease the error propagation issue, thereby enhancing the performance. We hope this work can inspire more research on cross-task prompting for SLU.

Accurately synthesizing talking face videos and capturing fine facial features for individuals with long hair presents a significant challenge. To tackle these challenges in existing methods, we propose a decomposed per-embedding Gaussian fields (DEGSTalk), a 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)-based talking face synthesis method for generating realistic talking faces with long hairs. Our DEGSTalk employs Deformable Pre-Embedding Gaussian Fields, which dynamically adjust pre-embedding Gaussian primitives using implicit expression coefficients. This enables precise capture of dynamic facial regions and subtle expressions. Additionally, we propose a Dynamic Hair-Preserving Portrait Rendering technique to enhance the realism of long hair motions in the synthesized videos. Results show that DEGSTalk achieves improved realism and synthesis quality compared to existing approaches, particularly in handling complex facial dynamics and hair preservation. Lyapunov-guided Deep Reinforcement Learning for Semantic-aware AoI Minimization in UAV-assisted Wireless Networks

This paper investigates an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted semantic network where the ground users (GUs) periodically capture and upload the sensing information to a base station (BS) via UAVs’ relaying. Both the GUs and the UAVs can extract semantic information from large-size raw data and transmit it to the BS for recovery. Smaller-size semantic information reduces latency and improves information freshness, while larger-size semantic information enables more accurate data reconstruction at the BS, preserving the value of original information. We introduce a novel semantic-aware age-of-information (SAoI) metric to capture both information freshness and semantic importance, and then formulate a time-averaged SAoI minimization problem by jointly optimizing the UAV-GU association, the semantic extraction, and the UAVs’ trajectories. We decouple the original problem into a series of subproblems via the Lyapunov framework and then use hierarchical deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to solve each subproblem. Specifically, the UAV-GU association is determined by DRL, followed by the optimization module updating the semantic extraction strategy and UAVs’ deployment. Simulation results show that the hierarchical structure improves learning efficiency. Moreover, it achieves low AoI through semantic extraction while ensuring minimal loss of original information, outperforming the existing baselines. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

An Unsupervised Malicious Web Request Detection based on Transformer and Contrastive Learning

The World Wide Web (Web) is a crucial part of the Internet. Web attacks are becoming more and more serious and complex. Malicious Web request detection aims to rapidly and accurately identify abnormal attacks on the network. Deep learning is being applied to malicious Web request detection, resulting in high detection performance. However, most deep learning-based methods are supervised and ignore special characters, which are hard to detect unknown malicious Web requests. The labels of Web request are fewer and Web request data is insufficient. Therefore, we propose an unsupervised malicious Web request detection based on transformer and contrastive learning (UTCDetector). UTCDetector exploits preprocessing and 2-gram word segmentationto preserve special characters, extracts semantic feature by Transformer, and leverages hypersphere loss function and contrastive learning to handle insufficient Web data without abnormal label. Since the public Web request datasets (CSIC 2010, CSIC TORPEDA 2012, and ECML/PKDD 2007) were created before 2012, we collected Web requests from a university Web application server in 2023 to build a private dataset named School 2023. This dataset contains more modern and complex attacks. The experimental results on the four datasets demonstrate that our method achieves a higher F1-score than other existing methods and ablation variants. © 2004-2012 IEEE.
