As malware authors keep devising new methods to breach the security of computers and hide their malware from antivirus and forensics tools, new techniques need to be developed to alleviate the threats posed by these innovative and advanced malware attacks. The purpose of this research is to reverse engineer a unique family of malware, namely the Win Jelly and the Demon keylogger, that escapes detection by utilizing AMD and NVIDIA Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) as a hideout. After the static and dynamic analysis of Win Jelly and Demon to gain a deeper understanding about the behavior of these malware and how they exploit the GPU, a new technique is developed using OpenCL to completely remove the malware from the GPU and to help avoid future threats. The proposed method and tool successfully removed the malicious files from the GPU without any drawbacks. This paper will raise the awareness for AMD and NVIDIA GPU users and help GPU developers to implement more security measures to the GPU vulnerability.

Traditionally, research on mobile robot adaptability to damaging external stimuli has only focused on making individuals capable of surviving on their own, which is often very expensive and lacks robustness. In this paper, we present our initial work on an Emperor Penguin huddling-inspired group survival methodology for a multi-robot system exposed to a damaging directional external stimulus. Individuals on the stimuli side are able to relocate to the safest location on the leeward side of the group in turns without any communication requirements or prior knowledge of the group size or shape, for prolonged survival of the group as a whole. A distributed boundary movement method is proposed with Gaussian Processes machine learning that allows individuals to relocate to the robot health-loss-rate global minima around the group boundary only using stimuli measurements. Simulation results validate our proposed methodology of successfully relocating individuals. The robustness of the proposed method was tested under different formation sizes and shapes. In all cases, successful relocation was obtained. As an effect, significant improvement in survivability of the robot group as a whole was obtained.

Robot survivability in long term autonomous search and rescue, surveillance, monitoring operations to remote locations with minimal to no human supervision is of great importance. In such applications, a convoy of heterogeneous mobile robots in formation traveling from point A to point B on a mission, suffers from its range being constrained by the highest battery using agent. In this paper, an Emperor penguin-huddling inspired gradient based energy sharing and position shuffling scheme is proposed for heterogeneous multi-robot systems on the move, with the purpose of extending the working life of the entire convoy together. Each robot is modeled based on an Emperor penguin with carefully placed inductive coils for energy sharing with neighbors. The multi-robot system is built following the tightly packed hexagonal lattice formation for optimal charge sharing and a position coordination algorithm is proposed to allow all agents an equal opportunity to move to the center in turns which is shown to be the most advantageous position in the convoy. The convergence of the position shuffling algorithm is analyzed to show that the convoy formation is maintained over time. Simulation results validate that convoys, regardless of size, can survive and travel much further together with the proposed Emperor penguin huddling-inspired shuffling and energy sharing methods than individuals relying only on themselves.
