To guarantee good mechanical and optical properties of coating products, it is important to control molecular orientation of polymer chains in liquids to be coated on the web or substrate. In this study, Brownian dynamics (Bd) and the conventional computational flow dynamics (CFd) simulations have been incorporated to elucidate dynamics and conformation of a polymer molecule in coating flow regime. Flexible polymer chain, e.g., λ‐dNA molecule here, changes its conformation, relying on its flow strength (Weissenberg number, Wi) and flow type parameter (α). Interestingly, in slot coating flow, the chain can be more extended by the extension‐like flow field near the downstream free surface curvature. due to the complex flow field within the slot coating bead region, the extensibility of polymer chain moving along the streamline has also been investigated by correlating with the effective Wieff and process conditions such as coating gap, web speed, and so on.

The plastic substrate based displays have attracted a lot of interest in recent years because of their potential applications in portable electronic devices. Many of them have high brightness, high contrast, and large angle of view, with the flexibility for accommodating different form factors. However, their reliability in practical applications has not been systematically studied. For many plastic materials, the temperature and humidity reliability are among the biggest concerns. This paper presents an experimental study of the plastic substrate based liquid crystal display with the focus on its reliability under varying temperature and humidity conditions. In this study, the cold test and the cyclic damp heat tests were conducted with visual inspections and electro-optical properties measurement during each test procedure. These provide a solid foundation for further studies on the reliability of displays based on plastic substrate technology in practical applications.

Transient Solutions of Nonlinear dynamics in Film Blowing Accompanied by Flow‐induced Crystallization

The nonlinear dynamics in film blowing process is simulated employing the governing equations of the system that include the flow‐induced crystallization (FIC), i.e., the continuity, the two force balances (axial and circumferential), the energy, the crystallinity, and the constitutive equations of Phan‐Thien Tanner (PTT) model. Unlike the hitherto‐published simulation results on film blowing, this study doesn't assume the boundary condition of the radius of the bubble at freezeline height having the zero slope with respect to the axial spatial coordinate. Instead, the governing equations of the system yield this important result as part of the solution of the set of the partial differential equations which are defined from the die exit all the way to the nip roll. The reason why the governing equations need to be solved to the nip roll beyond the freezeline height is that most of the crystallization occurs after the freezeline height and the deformation of the film also persists in the region. Transient solutions of the dynamics in film blowing have been obtained showing close agreement with the experimental results of polymers including LdPE. The instability behavior of the process, draw resonance, has also been portrayed using the FIC‐included simulation model of this study, which exhibits better agreement with experiments than the previous model without FIC.

A new method of space analytic geometry is presented, by which the kinematics characteristics of single cross universal joint is analyzed. Compared with traditional method such as descriptive geometry, three element complex and multi-body system dynamics, space analytic geometry has characteristics of brachylogy and understandability. It is a more convenient way to analyze the kinematics characteristics of single cross universal joint and suitable for project design. The Matlab software is used for simulation to analyze kinematics characteristics of rotate speed and angular acceleration of cross universal joint driven fork shaft.

In many applications and protocols, the number of usable characters is limited. Base64 or other similar algorithms are widely used to encode the binary data into a printable representation. But base64 itself can't compress data, contrarily, it *** the binary data by 33％. This paper presents a lossless base 62 compressed encoding method that only use alphanumeric characters to represent the original data. Burrows-Wheeler Transform (BWT) is used along with range coding to compress data before it is transfered to base 62 encoder. And a simple encryption mechanism is incorporated to provide basic security. This base62 compressed encoding has been tested using the Canterbury corpus, and this paper also presents a comparative study with other similar methods. It can be used for compressing data into base 62 format in wide-range applications, e.g., UrL encoding, Internet Mail Transfer, and embedding binary objects into XML files.

The object of this work was to search for the relationships between the carbonyl group density and gas transport properties in the membrane. The intrinsic gas transport properties: permeation, diffusion, and sorption in a series of dense membranes with various carbonyl group densities were investigated. The pure He, O2, N2, and CO2 permeability were measured using a temperature-controlled permeation analyzer. The sorption isotherms were obtained using a Cahn 1000 microbalance sorption cell. The PMMA, PC, and COC membranes have similar He permeability, and the PPO membrane has very high He permeability. The permeability of these four membranes presents a parallel trend with their fraction free volume. The solubilities of these membranes increase with increasing gas condensability in the order of CO2, O2, and N2. In this study, a direct relationship was found between the carbonyl group density and Langmuir affinity constant. Furthermore, dependence of the fractional free volume on the membrane Langmuir capacity constant was observed. Consequently, we can conclude that solubility is improved by increasing the carbonyl group density on the polymer chains of various polymers and this effect becomes more pronounced with increasing penetrant condensability. It was found that the carbonyl group in the membrane decreased the gas diffusivity because it might have a strong interaction with the penetrant gas molecules.

VO x thin films have been fabricated by low temperature ion beam sputtering and post reductive annealing process. Semiconductor-metal phase transition is observed for the film annealed at 400degC for 2 hours. The film also shows a polycrystal structure with grain size from 50 nm to 150 nm. The VO x thin films fabricated by this process have a TCr up to -2.7% at room temperature. Our results indicate a promising fabrication method of the nano-structured VO x film with relatively high TCr and semiconductor-metal phase transition.

We describe the synthesis of periodic waveforms consisting of a train of pulses that are 0.83 cycles long and have an electric field pulse width of 0.44 fs using 7 raman sidebands generated by molecular modulation in H2. We verify by optical correlation that the carrier-envelope phase is constant in these waveforms when they are synthesized from commensurate sidebands. The estimated overall shift of the carrier-envelope phase is less than 0.18 cycles from the first to the last pulse of nearly 106 pulses in the pulse train.

recently, combining a video recording of a presentation along with the digital slides used in it has become popular in e-learning and presentation of archives. For users of the archives, it is useful to preview a digest of such content to grasp the atmosphere and/or an outline of the presentation. This paper proposes a method of automatic digest generation by extracting important scenes from the presentation content. The extracted scenes are chosen based on several factors such as frequency and specificity of words, scene duration and order. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed methods are evaluated by comparing with testers' answer sets for actual lectures.

The concept of growing ITO (Indium-Tin-oxide) or ITO/TiO 2 core-shell nanowire arrays for the use of 3d electrodes in dye-sensitized solar cells (dSSCs) has been tested in the present study. By employing the template electrophoretic deposition (EPd) method, ITO and ITO/TiO 2 nanowire arrays were synthesized. A 3d electrode for dSSCs was constructed using a doctor blade to coat TiO 2 layers covering the ITO or ITO/TiO 2 nanowire arrays. The separation of charge generation, charge transport functions, enlarged interface area were thought to be the major advantages of 3d nanowire electrodes for the optimization of dSSCs. Photoelectric conversion efficiency at 3.99% of the dSSCs made from ITO nanowires was obtained, which was much higher than those of ITO/TiO 2 core- shell nanowire arrays or pristine TiO 2 films. The morphology of ITO/TiO 2 core-shell nanowire arrays is sensitive to fabrication process and significantly affects the final performance. Cyclic voltammetry confirmed that the reaction current was significantly enhanced when a 3d ITO nanowire electrode was used.
