The residual life assessment of a 9–12% Cr tempered martensitic ferritic steel, used in steam turbine blades androtors, has been carried out using samples extracted from a turbine blade-root in bending, a novel small-scale testing method. Bending creep specimens (2 × 2 × 10 mm3) and miniaturized cylindrical compression creep specimens (5 × 7.6 mm2) were tested at 550 °C by applying effective stresses of 200–500 MPa, which mimics the near operating conditions. The alloy microstructure showed lath boundaries and prior austenitic grain boundaries decorated with M23C6 carbides pinning low-angle boundaries. An excellent equivalence between uniaxial and bending creep was observed in the alloy with a creep stress exponent, n, of 8, thereby suggesting bending creep can be a viable method for creep testing sub-standard-sized specimens extracted from the in-service components.

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have many advantages such as high efficiency. As they are widely utilized for many applications, requirements of less noise and fewer vibrations increase. For a suppression control to the vibration caused by air-gap imbalances, using multi-three-phase PMSMs are suitable method because they can use common three phase inverters. We must detect the air-gap imbalances including static eccentricity anddynamic eccentricity to the suppression control. This paper proposes a method that separately detects static anddynamic eccentricity considering characteristics of the harmonic components of no-load line-line voltages. The method confirms its detection ability by a finite element analysis (FEA) model with eccentricity.

Optimization of energy management in office buildings is essential to get through power outages while continuing business operations. For this purpose, an accurate mathematical model of energy management is necessary. This study proposes a mathematical model for optimal building operation during power outages. The model is formulated using nonlinear functions with the number of workers on each floor and the power consumption of demand facilities as control variables and solved as a mixed integer linear programming method to minimize the damage that occurs during a power outage. Numerical experiments using actual building data verify the validity of the proposed method by comparing optimized human and facility operational plans using the proposed and conventional models.
