This research paper presents an application of the Multi-attributive Border Approximation Area Comparison (MABAC) method combined with the Method based on the removal Effects of Criteria (MErEC) for the parametric optimization of the Chemical Vapor deposition (CVd) process in diamond-like Carbon (dLC) coatings. A decision matrix is formulated using a case study from the literature. Four response parameters namely, Hardness (H), Young’s modulus (E), Coefficient of Friction (COF), and Wear rate (Wr) are considered. The weight allocation for these response parameters is calculated using five different methods, namely MErEC, mean weight (Mean), Standard deviation (Stdev), Entropy, and Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation (CrITIC) method. The MABAC method was employed to obtain the optimal parametric combination for the dLC coatings. results showed a clear superior combination of the CVd process parameters can be achieved using the MErEC-MABAC methodology. Thus, the study successfully demonstrates the effectiveness of the MErEC-MABAC-based approach for the simultaneous optimization of multiple responses in the CVd process for dLC coatings. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this study, a hybrid COPrAS-MOGWO (Complex Proportional Assessment-Multi-Objective Grey Wolf Optimizer) optimization approach is proposed for optimizing biodiesel production. The performance of the MOGWO is compared with Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II). Optimization of biodiesel production from waste frying soybean oil through transesterification is considered as the case study to test the proposed algorithm. The research aims to minimize energy consumption and maximize reaction conversion and green chemistry balance simultaneously. results indicate that MOGWO outperforms NSGA-II in terms of computational time and solution quality. Furthermore, the same best compromise solution (BCS) is identified by COPrAS across different weight-based scenarios. By comparing the relative performance of NSGA-II and MOGWO, this study contributes valuable insights into multi-objective optimization in biodiesel production and provides guidance for researchers and practitioners in selecting appropriate optimization algorithms to improve the efficiency and sustainability of biodiesel production processes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Micromilling is a subtractive manufacturing process that presents challenges due to scale effects and rapid tool wear. To understand the evolution of surface quality when increasing the machined length during the micromilling process, this study assessed the surface roughness, topography, and defects of slots micromilled on Ti-6Al-4V. For the experiments, 1 mm diameter flat end mills were employed, and the cutting parameters were varied using a full factorial design. Subsequently, the surface texture field parameter Sa was assessed every 20 mm, up until the machining length of 260 mm. The analysed results led to the conclusion that, for the adopted set of parameters and the machining length of up to 260 mm, surface roughness was not significantly correlated to the machined length in the micromilling process of Ti-6Al-4V, as the Pearson coefficient, obtained from the correlation analysis, was -0.052. However, the surface roughness was mainly influenced by feed rate (Pearson coefficient of 0.82), with higher feed rates leading to roug surfaces (up to Sa = 0.4 μm) duhere to the tool load increase that causes wider feed marks on the surface. regarding the feed marks, they were affected by the tool rotational frequency due to system vibration. Additionally, surface defects of adhered material, smearing, tearing and side flow were observed. For lower feeds, material adhesion was the main type of defect observed, while higher feed rates favoured the side flow phenomenon. © 2024 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

In this paper, a novel hybrid multi-criteria decision-making (MCdM) methodology called the CrITIC-MABAC approach is introduced. It is applied in optimization of laser drilling of kenaf/high-density polyethylene (HdPE) composites. The objective is to simultaneously minimize the kerf taper angle (φ ) and surface roughness (ra ) by optimizing the two process parameters (namely laser power and cutting speed). To establish the efficacy of the CrITIC-MABAC, its results are compared with Entropy-MABAC approach. The optimal parametric combination is found to be at a laser power of 120W and cutting speed of 4 mm/s. Thus, the proposed CrITIC-MABAC method demonstrates its effectiveness and can be used as a means to achieve superior hole quality. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

An attempt is made in exploring the response of four hydrogen bond liquid crystals formed between sebacic acid (SA) and p-n alkyloxy benzoic acids (nBAO) of varying chain length (from pentyloxy carbon number to octyloxy carbon number) towards the optical and thermal stimuli. different characterization techniques such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Polarizing Optical Microscopy and differential Scanning Calorimetry are used to confirm the parameters such as intermolecular hydrogen bond existence between the mesogens, phase variance and transition temperatures respectively. Nematic and smectic G mesophases are observed in the present mesogens. Chemical filters, phase diagram and derived thermal properties are also discussed in the present exploration. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

A novel ensemble-based optimization technique is proposed for designing a robot manipulator variable stiffness joint. A multi-objective optimization is performed by considering the maximization of generated torque and the minimization of the weight of the joints. This investigation considers three design parameters (i.e., inner stator width, outer stator width, and magnet height) to maximize torque and reduce weight. Multi-objective ant lion optimization (MOALO) and multi-objective dragonfly algorithm (MOdA) optimization techniques are employed to generate Pareto fronts. These multiple Pareto fronts from the same algorithm are collated and condensed using non-dominated sorting (NdS) to reject the most dominant solutions. These new and improved Pareto fronts are called MOALO and MOdA ensembles. Next, the MOALO and MOdA ensemble Pareto front solutions are collated together, and NdS is performed again. The resulting Pareto front containing solutions of both MOALO and MOdA is referred to as the MOALO-MOdA ensemble. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Plates are non-curve structural elements used in civil, aerospace and marine constructions. Optimization of these structures is important for its longevity and safe design. This study uses a novel non-dominated sorting whale optimization algorithm (NSWOA) ensemble technique to optimize the design of laminated composite plates. The objective of the study is to maximize the fundamental frequency and frequency separation. The orientations of the fiber in each layer are considered the design variables. This study considers a rectangular plate with a symmetric arrangement of lamina under simply supported boundary conditions. In the competitive telecommunications sector, enhancing customer experience (CE) is crucial for business success. The Net Promoter Score (NPS) is a key indicator of customer loyalty and satisfaction. To boost CE, operators monitor Quality of Experience (QoE) metrics, such as call drop rates, successful installation rates, and data transmission speeds, to identify and address service shortcomings. However, analyzing the primary drivers of NPS remains challenging. This study introduces a hybrid approach combining decision trees (dT) and support vector machines (SVM) to advance CE in telecommunications. This method utilizes SVM for predictive modeling of CE and dT to determine the significant factors affecting it. Customer satisfaction data from a telecommunications provider validates the proposed hybrid model's effectiveness. results demonstrate the model's ability to accurately predict CE and identify essential influencing factors, offering practical implications for companies aiming to enhance customer satisfaction and overall CE. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Industrial side streams can be used to capture CO2due to the presence of metals such as Ca, Mg, Na, and others. Green liquor dregs (GLd), an industrial alkaline solid waste generated by pulp and paper companies, can capture CO2through aqueous direct carbonation. However, aqueous carbonation requires high water consumption. To address this, an alkaline wastewater from the pulp and paper industry was used as an alternative to fresh water, reducing the need for additional water consumption. In this work, the absorption capacities, reaction yield, and physicochemical characteristics of the samples were studied. A 3d-printed reactor, designed by our research group, was used to take advantage of bubble turbulence for mixing the aqueous and gaseous phases, thereby reducing electricity consumption. The solids before and after carbonation were analyzed using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The absorption capacity for GLd in deionized water was in the range between 5.92 and 14.86 g/L, while for GLd in wastewater, it was between 8.11 and 17.81 g/L. These results indicate that the presence of wastewater can enhance CO2absorption. Physicochemical analysis confirmed the presence of CaCO3after the *** capture of CO2by side streams in alkaline wastewater is a promising method for reducing CO2and valorizing these byproducts.
