This article analyzes the power consumption of nodes in ad hoc IEEE 802.11 networks. The main objective of this analysis is to discover theoretic restrictions for the gains obtained in node lifetime through different energy conservation techniques found in the literature. The evaluation of energy consumption considers the characteristics of the medium access method and the interaction of the nodes in the packet forwarding process. The basic idea is to regulate the lifetime of a node based on its average consumption. Consumption is estimated based on the amount of time the node remnants transmitting, receiving or idle. The potential gains obtained by different techniques for saving or balancing energy consumption are then analysed. It is shown that the flow balancing technique can achieve a maximum gain for the node lifetime between 11% and 30%, depending on the network configuration. © 2023 IEEE.

HappyCruise project offers cruise passengers a comprehensive solution that provides personalized security and information to reduce the feeling of insecurity and highlight the competitive advantages of Cruise destinations, offering a more comprehensive visit experience based on their interests and the available time while enhancing the Branding of the city and the port. The creation of a robust, useful, and engaging traveler mobile application with essential features is proposed. It combines offering information about suggested points of interests and other activities in the limited time of a cruise passenger's visit, security through a simple and intuitive alert system which informs the Cruise Security through a web interface about the passenger's Id, the type of the danger and the geographical position of the passenger. The passenger can also receive notifications from the ship's staff regarding the cruise schedule, the remaining time of staying at the port and of any important security messages. The mobile application also integrates a series of motivation teasers including gamified notifications with suggestions based on the passengers' interest, nearby points of interests presented with augmented reality, guidance to destinations with augmented reality navigation arrows, suggested services and products in the port area. Additionally, a biometric passenger identification system utilizing face recognition technology is used providing a quick and reliable check-in that eliminates the need of submitting passport or boarding card many times. © 2022 IEEE.

reducing traffic accidents pertaining to autonomous vehicles has garnered attention. Merging on a highway is one of the most challenging problems that must be addressed for the realization of autonomous vehicles. It is difficult because an agent must decide where to merge in a complex and ever-changing environment. Merging with congested highway traffic involves significant interaction with vehicles in the main lane. If there is no space for the autonomous vehicle to merge, it needs to work on vehicles in the main lane to create space and subsequently decide to merge or not. reinforcement learning (rL) is a promising method for solving decision-making problems. However, it is difficult to guarantee the safety of the controller obtained using rL. Therefore, we propose a combined method in which decision-making is performed by rL and vehicle control by model predictive control (MPC) to ensure safety. The performance of the proposed system is tested by simulations. The proposed system made appropriate decisions according to the situation, and by controlling the vehicle in consideration of collision avoidance constraints, it showed a high merge success rate evenin a crowded situation.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are cutting-edge energy harvesting devices to convert abundant mechanical energy sources into electrical ***-throughput manufacturing of triboelectric surfaces with improved performance and reliability is the key for the large-scale deployment of TENG *** the present study, the cold spray (CS) particle deposition technique is employed to fabricate functional surface structures to realize TENGs and smart *** soft (e.g., tin) and hard (e.g., copper) micron-scale particles are deposited on the target substrates to create the functional ***, CS is coupled with an electroless deposition process to produce electrically conductive micro-porous (ra= 2.17 μm) copper *** surfaces serve as a positive friction layer and a back-electrode for the *** fabricated surfaces are subsequently utilized to develop innovative TENGs, demonstrating the potential of these surface structures in triboelectric energy harvesting and smart sensing *** results reveal that the CS-based functional surfaces lead to significantly improved energy harvesting performance (≈3.5-fold higher performance) compared to friction layer and back-electrodes made of conventional materials, such as copper and aluminum foil. In this study, we propose a space-filling Latin hypercube design with small fill distance and large separation radius based on simulated annealing for efficient Bayesian optimization. Through an example focused on optimizing high aspect ratio hole etching, we demonstrate that initial sampling with the proposed design is advantageous compared to conventional designs in terms of the convergence of Bayesian optimization with fewer experiments.

The accurate measurement of gas flow is directly related to the economic benefits and social interests of gas enterprises. Moreover, as a kind of time-series data, there is a serious imbalance in the distribution of positive and negative samples in the data, which leads to low accuracy and difficulty in detecting gas anomaly data. To address these problems, a cost-sensitive hybrid network model is proposed in this paper. The model combines the stronger local feature learning ability of CNN network and the better sequence feature learning ability of GrU network, and then introduces a cost-sensitive loss function to solve the problem of inaccurate classification accuracy due to skewed data distribution. The experimental results show that using this model can find the outliers in the measurement data more accurately, which has some reference significance for the accurate measurement of traffic. © VdE VErLAG GMBH ∙ Berlin ∙ Offenbach.

Iron-based nanostructures represent an emerging class of catalysts with high electroactivity for oxygen reduction reaction(Orr)in energy storage and conversion ***,current practical applications have been limited by insufficient durability in both alkaline and acidic *** particular,limited attention has been paid to stabilizing iron-based catalysts by introducing additional metal by the alloying ***,we report bimetallic Fe_(2)Mo nanoparticles on N-doped carbon(Fe_(2)Mo/NC)as an efficient and ultra-stable Orr electrocatalyst for the first *** Fe_(2)Mo/NC catalyst shows high selectivity for a four-electron pathway of Orr and remarkable electrocatalytic activity with high kinetics current density and half-wave potential as well as low Tafel slope in both acidic and alkaline *** demonstrates excellent long-term durability with no activity loss even after 10,000 potential *** functional theory(dFT)calculations have confirmed the modulated electronic structure of formed Fe_(2)Mo,which supports the electron-rich structure for the Orr ***,the mutual protection between Fe and Mo sites guarantees efficient electron transfer and long-term stability,especially under the alkaline *** work has supplied an effective strategy to solve the dilemma between high electroactivity and long-term durability for the Fe-based electrocatalysts,which opens a new direction of developing novel electrocatalyst systems for future research.

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have many advantages such as high efficiency. As they are widely utilized for many applications, requirements of less noise and fewer vibrations increase. For a suppression control to the vibration caused by air-gap imbalances, using multi-three-phase PMSMs are suitable method because they can use common three phase inverters. We must detect the air-gap imbalances including static eccentricity and dynamic eccentricity to the suppression control. This paper proposes a method that separately detects static and dynamic eccentricity considering characteristics of the harmonic components of no-load line-line voltages. The method confirms its detection ability by a finite element analysis (FEA) model with eccentricity.

In the pursuit of sustainable energy solutions, the incorporation of photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy systems has gained substantial attention. This paper presents a comprehensive study on a PV Wind Battery-Based dC Micro-grid (MG), optimized using a Neural Network-based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm. The proposed MG system aims to enhance energy efficiency and reliability by leveraging the complementary nature of PV and wind power sources, coupled with battery storage for energy management. The neural network MPPT algorithm is designed to dynamically adjust to varying environmental conditions, ensuring optimal power extraction from both PV and wind systems. The effectiveness of the proposed system is validated through extensive simulations results, demonstrating significant improvements in power conversion efficiency and stability, it achieves an efficiency of 99.7%. This research underscores the potential of advanced AI techniques in optimizing hybrid renewable energy systems, paving the way for more resilient and efficient MG solutions. ©2024 IEEE.

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are widely utilized for many purposes owing to their high efficiency. Such frequent applications require less noise and fewer vibrations. This work focuses on multi-three-phase PMSMs that can independently control the current among winding groups to suppress the vibrations caused by air gap imbalances, which must be detected for suppression control. The representative effects of air gap imbalance include static and dynamic eccentricities. dynamic eccentricity varies the air gap length in time;therefore, the instantaneous detection of the air gap length condition is necessary for suppression control. We propose a method that instantaneously detects dynamic eccentricity using the fundamental and fourth-order harmonic components of no-load line-line voltages, which are easily measurable in practical manufacturing processes. The proposed real-time detection method is applied to a finite element analysis (FEA) model with dynamic eccentricity, and confirm its detection ability is confirmed experimentally. © 2023 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.
