Aim The urgency for remote, reliable and scalable biodiversity monitoring amidst mounting human pressures on ecosystems has sparked worldwide interest in Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM), which can track life underwater and on land. However, we lack a unified methodology to report this sampling effort and a comprehensive overview of PAM coverage to gauge its potential as a global research and monitoring tool. To address this gap, we created the Worldwide Soundscapes project, a collaborative network and growing database comprising metadata from 416 datasets across all realms (terrestrial, marine, freshwater and subterranean). Location Worldwide, 12,343 sites, all ecosystem types. Time Period 1991 to present. Major Taxa Studied All soniferous taxa. Methods We synthesise sampling coverage across spatial, temporal and ecological scales using metadata describing sampling locations, deployment schedules, focal taxa and audio recording parameters. We explore global trends in biological, anthropogenic and geophysical sounds based on 168 selected recordings from 12 ecosystems across all realms. results Terrestrial sampling is spatially denser (46 sites per million square kilometre—Mkm 2 ) than aquatic sampling (0.3 and 1.8 sites/Mkm 2 in oceans and fresh water) with only two subterranean datasets. Although diel and lunar cycles are well sampled across realms, only marine datasets (55%) comprehensively sample all seasons. Across the 12 ecosystems selected for exploring global acoustic trends, biological sounds showed contrasting diel patterns across ecosystems, declined with distance from the Equator, and were negatively correlated with anthropogenic sounds. Main Conclusions PAM can inform macroecological studies as well as global conservation and phenology syntheses, but representation can be improved by expanding terrestrial taxonomic scope, sampling coverage in the high seas and subterranean ecosystems, and spatio-temporal replication in freshwater habitats. direct-on-line synchronous reluctance motors (dOLSynrM) combine the characteristics of the induction motor (IM) and the synchronous reluctance motor (SynrM). Saturation of core materials, the eddy currents, and the asymmetry of the rotor core and cage make it difficult to predict to which kind of loads the motor can synchronize. In this paper, the dOLSynrM start-up is analyzed with a magnetic field decomposition that makes it possible to quantify and isolate forces between any two distinct parts of an electric machine using a time-stepping finite element (FE) field solution. The results show explicitly, which portion of the motor torque is produced by the rotor core and which by the rotor cage. Compared to conventional static and quasi-stationary analyses used to distinguish between the torque on rotor core and cage, the presented method gives a more detailed view.

The cryogenic hydraulic turbine can be used to replace the conventional J-T valve for LNG or mixed refrigerant throttling and depressurization in a natural gas liquefaction plant. This advanced technology is not only to enhance the efficiency of the liquefaction plant, but to usher a new trend in the development of global liquefaction technologies. China has over 136 liquefaction plants, but the cryogenic hydraulic turbines have not been deployed in industrial utilization. In addition, these turbines cannot be manufactured domestically. In this circumstance, through working on the key technologies for LNG hydraulic turbine process & control system development, hydraulic model optimization design, structure design and manufacturing, the first domestic cryogenic hydraulic turbine with a flow rate of 40 m3/h was developed to recover the pressure energy from the LNG of cold box. The turbine was installed in the CNOOC Zhuhai Natural Gas Liquefaction Plant for industrial tests under multiple working conditions, including start-stop, variable flow rates and variable rotation speeds. Test results show that the domestic LNG cryogenic hydraulic turbine has satisfactory mechanical and operational performances at low temperatures as specified in design. In addition, the process & control system and frequency-conversion power-generation system of the turbine system are designed properly to automatically and smoothly replace the existing LNG J-T valve. As a result, the domestic LNG cryogenic hydraulic turbine system can improve LNG production by an average of 2% and generate power of 8.3 kW. © 2016, Natural Gas Industry Journal Agency. This paper discusses surge voltage suppression methods in order to design a large capacity three-phase to single-phase matrix converter which is used in AC-dC converters. In order to reduce the surge voltage, the design criteria based on the flow chart of a laminated bus bar (LBB) for the three-phase to single-phase matrix converter is clarified to achieve the lowest stray inductance. As a result, the maximum stray inductance of the LBB for 200-V, 50-kW is achieved to 59 nH in simulation and 58.3 nH in experiment. Besides, when the surge voltage exceeds the tolerance, a snubber capacitor is used in order to limit the surge voltage. In this paper, the design method of the snubber capacitor is also proposed. Concretely, the relationship among snubber capacitance, surge voltage and turn-on loss is derived. As the result, it is confirmed that the surge voltage becomes 231 V when the output current is 310 A by experiment. Thus, the design method of snubber capacitor to suppress the surge voltage is validated.

To be successful in the ILI business, organization require the right mix of technological capabilities, operational agility and quality standards. The business is fairly competitive, and often technological capabilities are pivotal in the customer proposition of the company. However, the best technologies are not solely required for successful ILI companies. robustness of the system, operability by the ILI inspector, fitness of the product with commercial route to the market all contribute to a rapid return on investment. Within Intero Integrity we have a diverse innovation portfolio, focused at unpiggable pipelines and robotic tank inspections. Providing a robust, versatile, high-resolution and cost-effective method to inspect large diameter pipelines was recognized as a challenge and opportunity. For that, Intero has developed a Large diameter Ultrasonic Inspection tool capable of inspecting pipelines of 20 inch to 64 inch with high resolution. The tool is always bi-directional and capable of mitigating 1.5d bends. Gathered data can be reviewed real-time during the inspection. The operating envelope of the tool is such that it can cope with various products in the pipeline, varying from (high salinity) water, crude oil and a multitude of refined products. despite the fact that product properties (e.g. speed of sound, attenuation, temperature, etc) vary, the tool is designed such that this is not a limiting factor for the operating envelope. The application of advanced ultrasonic beam forming methodologies and signal generation and -processing ensure that the system is versatile and robust for these types of real-life operating conditions. This presentation will provide an overview of the utilization of these technologies, the validation program that has been used to demonstrate tool specifications and the experiences gained at successful projects. ©2020 by Clarion Technical Conferences, Great Southern Press and the author(s).

Virtual Platforms, SystemC [1] Simulations for SoCs (System on Chip) is one of the prominent technologies' which is widely used today in the industry for early software development despite hardware availability. SystemC facilitates development of Transaction-Level Models (TLMs) [2][3] for SoC components at higher level of abstraction than rTL. This enables lower modeling effort and higher simulation speeds. Memories and Memory Controllers play significant role in the SoC Architecture right from boot-up of the SoC to the regular functionalities. With the growing complexity of SoC Architecture, SoC comprises different kind of memories and Controllers. All though the access timing, electrical levels, technology, access commands are different for each of the memories, when it comes to simulation model features like electrical levels, technology used etc. are of no impact. If the Simulation abstraction is functional accurate type which is generally used for software development use-case, as the software has no idea on cycle information even the accuracy in memory access timings are not of much significance. Features like interface & interface protocols between controller and memories, state machine synchronization, commands and formats for page programming, page reading, block erasing, pipeline accessing, parameter page reading, error control correction etc. are to be implemented functionally accurate. Considering the increasing number of features and complexity of the Flash Memories and Memory Controllers, the effort involved in developing SystemC TLM models for these is significant and many a time repetitive across different memory models and controllers. One of the challenges in this project is to come up with design solutions for implementing Flash Memories and Memory Controllers which would reduce model development efforts and afford reusability, and secondly to improve the memory accessing time of the implemented memories which in turn to improve simulation speed

This paper presents a procedure of designing an offset Gregorian dual-reflector antenna with a non-circular aperture of the main reflector using FEKO. A 1.2m Ku band offset dual-reflector antenna is set as an example to compare the results from two solvers in FEKO with the measurement data. There are good agreements on the radiation patterns simulated in FEKO with those by measurement.

SOI devices are of great interest in aerospace applications for their candidate in radiation hardened solutions. Hot carrier effects are investigated in H shaped partially depleted SOI based NMOSFET. We analyze different responses for different bias conditions. The experimental results show that the high gate and drain voltage condition is the worst case for body tied H shaped SOI-NMOS. After 2000 seconds stress in room temperature, the device physical parameters' degradations show clearly different from maximum substrate current stress condition (VG≈=0.5Vd) that is transconductance increasing with the stress time.

Envelope of B-Mode ultrasound is generally modeled by using rayleigh, rician, K, Nakagami (Generalized), Weibull, Gamma (Generalized), Lognormal, Normal and other distributions. Estimation of parameters is done using the method of moments or through Maximum Likelihood Estimation. The paper proposes a mathematical model of ultrasound kidney images of at different stages of growth. Images are obtained at different time from a commercial ultrasound machines in clinical settings. Using Nakagami distribution and Generalized Gamma distribution (GGd) these images are modeled. The parameters of employed distributions are estimated using MLE. Based on estimated parameters the Nakagami and Generalized Gamma distribution (GGd) are fitted to the empirical histogram corresponding to Ultrasound B-mode images. Statistical characteristics of clinical ultrasound B-mode images were done for classification of the central and peripheral region in kidney. The efficacies of both the distributions are evaluated in terms of Kullback-Leibler (KL) measure. The results indicate that classification based on GGd to be better.

Solar plants are becoming an important technology for electric generation due to the advantages they offer such as high efficiency, manageability with storage and the reduction of the electric generation costs. Nowadays this technology has many plants in operation and many others in advanced construction, which will start operating in the next few years. This increase in operating plants requires specific services for operation in order to protect the components of the plants and at the same time to optimize operation with the use of meteorological resources in order to maximize the electric generation. The components of the CSP plants (Concentrating Solar Power plants) are used at high temperatures in order to improve thermodynamical efficiency. These high temperatures require the use of specific fluids that may create difficulties during operation due to fluctuations in meteorology. The simulator of CSP plants developed for real-time simulation is able to predict the behavior of the plant with 1 minute periodicity. This improvement is suitable for operation because the prediction is given some hours in advance and gives the operators enough time to prepare for fluctuations during the different operation conditions. However, the development of real-time prediction has shown that although the plant performance is correct, the meteorological data requires very high degree of accuracy for an overall accurate prediction.
