Anti-inflammatory and anabolic biphasic scaffold facilitates osteochondral tissue regeneration in osteoarthritic joints

Osteochondral defects (OCd) are common but difficult to heal due to the low intrinsic repair capacity of cartilage and its complex hierarchical structure. In osteoarthritis (OA), OCd become more challenging to repair as both cartilage and subchondral bone regeneration are further impaired due to the arthritic environment. Numerous biomaterials have been developed and tested in osteochondral defects while ignoring the inflammatory environment. To target this challenging underlying pathophysiology, we designed and fabricated a biphasic porous and degradable scaffold incorporating anti-inflammatory and anabolic molecules by low-temperature rapid prototyping technology, and its effects on promoting osteochondral regeneration were evaluated using our well-established OA-OCd rabbit model. The biphasic porous scaffolds consisted of poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) with kartogenin (KGN) for cartilage repair and PLGA and β-calcium phosphate (PLGA/β-TCP) with cinnamaldehyde (CIN) for subchondral bone repair. KGN is a molecule for promoting chondrogenesis and CIN is a phytomolecule for enhancing osteogenesis and alleviating inflammation. The biphasic scaffolds PLGA/KGN-PLGA/β-TCP/CIN (PK/PTC) with bio-mimic structure provided stable mechanical properties and exhibited excellent biocompatibility to support cell adhesion, proliferation, migration, and distribution. Furthermore, KGN and CIN within biphasic scaffolds could be released in a controlled and sustained mode, and the biphasic scaffold degraded slowly in vitro . Evaluating the repair of 16-weeks post-implantation into critically sized OA-OCd rabbit models revealed that the biphasic scaffold could promote subchondral bone and cartilage regeneration, as well as reverse subchondral osteosclerosis caused by inflammation in vivo . These findings support the utilization of the PK/PTC scaffold for osteochondral regeneration and provide a promising potential strategy for clinical application for the treatment of patients with

"Effect of tungsten carbide (WC) on electrochemical corrosion behavior, hardness, and microstructure of CrFeCoNi high entropy alloy"

High-entropy alloy HEA (CrFeCoNi) was reinforced with variety of weight percentages of 5:20 wt.% WC particles. The alloy samples were mechanically prepared in a ball roll mill for 25 h by 10:1 ball to powder ratio at 180 rpm. Then WC was mixed with the prepared alloys in a high-speed ball mill for 1 h by 350 rpm under a controlled atmosphere. The mixed samples were compacted by a uniaxial press under 700 MPa and then sintered at 1200 °C for 90 min under air atmosphere. The corrosion behavior of the tested samples in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution was investigated using electrochemical polarization measurements. The microstructure of the sintered samples with high relative density showed three phases, which were FCC matrix, W-rich carbide, and Cr-rich carbide and homogeneously distributed all over the alloy matrix. The hardness of the (CrFeCoNi)1-X (WC)X HEAs was increased gradually with the increasing of WC content from about 336.41 HV up to 632.48 HV at room temperature. The results indicated that the addition of WC improves the corrosion resistance. Especially, the 20 wt.% of WC addition remarkably enhanced the comprehensive corrosion resistance and easy passivation of (CrFeCoNi)1-X(WC)X HEAs. Also, the wear rate of 0 wt.% WC HEA is (1.70E-04) which is approximately 4.5 times higher than the wear rate of 20 wt.% WC HEA (3.81E-05);this means that wear resistance is significantly improved with the increase of WC content. © 2022, The Author(s).

The enrichment characteristics of deep shale gas in the Ordovician Wufeng-Silurian Longmaxi formations in the Sichuan Basin and its surrounding areas are investigated through experiments under high temperature and high pressure,including petrophysical properties analyses,triaxial stress test and isothermal adsorption of methane experiment.(1)The deep shale reservoirs drop significantly in porosity and permeability compared with shallower shale reservoirs,and contain mainly free gas.(2)With higher deviatoric stress and axial strain,the deep shale reservoirs have higher difficulty fracturing.(3)Affected by structural location and morphology,fracture characteristics,geofluid activity stages and intensity,deep shale gas reservoirs have more complicated preservation conditions.(4)To achieve the commercial development of deep shale gas reservoirs,deepening geological understanding is the basis,and exploring reservoir simulation technology befitting the geological features is the key.(5)The siliceous shale and limestone-bearing siliceous shale in the Metabolograptus persculptus-Parakidograptus acuminatus zones(LM1-LM3 graptolite zones)are the high-production intervals for deep shale gas and the most favorable landing targets for horizontal *** water areas such as Jiaoshiba,Wulong,Luzhou and Changning with deep shale reservoirs over 10 m thickness are the most favorable areas for deep shale gas *** is recommended to carry out exploration and development practice in deep-water shale gas areas deposited deep with burial depth no more than 5000 m where the geological structure is simple and the shale thickness in the LM1-LM3 graptolite zone is greater than 10 *** is better to increase the lateral length of horizontal wells,and apply techniques including high intensity of perforations,large volume of proppant,far-field and near-wellbore diversions to maximize the stimulated deep reservoir volume.

The bonding process is a critical step in the synthesis of face-to-face interlaced carbon nanotubes. Copper-copper bonding has emerged as a promising alternative to traditional silicon dioxide to silicon dioxide bonding due to its advantages, including a reduced bonding area requirement and greater flexibility in chip-to-chip bonding. However, the use of formic acid in copper-copper bonding can adversely affect the catalyst employed in carbon nanotube synthesis. This paper presents a modified technique for achieving high-quality Cu-Cu bonding without the need for formic acid. We introduce the innovative use of pillar-cavity pairs, designed to increase contact pressure at the Cu-Cu interface during the bonding process. Additionally, a copper base is employed to enhance the adhesion strength between the electroplated copper pillars and the substrate. Our experimental results demonstrate that the bonded chips can withstand subsequent processes, including double-side-dicing and high-temperature treatments, highlighting the robustness of this bonding approach. The bonding strength is quantitatively evaluated through shear tests, confirming the reliability and stability of the Cu-Cu bonds formed using this technique. This technology exhibits promising potential for use in the future synthesis of face-to-face interlaced carbon nanotubes. © 2023 IEEE.

This study investigated the surface modification effect of the selective oxidation annealing (SOA) on the corrosion properties of cobalt-chromium-molybdenum (Co-Cr-Mo) alloy fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM). For the SOA, each element’s oxidation driving force was calculated, and the condition in which only Cr was selectively oxidized was thermodynamically analyzed. The oxidation potential was controlled by the partial pressure ratio of hydrogen gas and water vapor, and the alloy samples were annealed following the condition of the selective oxidation of Cr. The changes in the oxide layer and corrosion properties according to the SOA time were examined. On the as-built sample’s surface, a very thin native oxide film was formed. After the SOA, a dense chromium oxide (Cr 2 O 3 ) layer was formed on the surface, and its thickness increased along with the SOA time. These changes in the oxide layer had an impact on corrosion properties. Even though all samples before and after the SOA were under the passivation state, the corrosion performances in terms of corrosion potential and corrosion current density were improved by the SOA. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) results further confirmed that the improved corrosion resistance mainly came from the increased oxide layer resistance (r o ) because of the thickened oxide layer. © 2022, The Authors. In recent days, many people die of pulmonary embolism (PE) complications, respiratory problems that form in the deep lung. Covid-19 is the leading cause of preventable hospital death for trauma patients and despite 0.1% of the population receiving a new diagnosis annually. developing computer-aided detection (CAd) systems would alleviate these concerns; however, current systems classify computed tomography (CT) slices individually and yield many false positives from Covid-19. We have done a retrospective study on a dataset collected from various health central hospitals. There is a continued need for tools that can predict Covid and black fungal in hospitalized patients. It affects an estimated 3000–6000 Individuals just in recent days. This can cause considerable morbidity and mortality. For segmentation and classification, we mortality. By developing more effective detection algorithms, we hope to ensure a more frequent and accurate diagnosis of covid, thereby reducing its high mortality rate. reports have shown that black fungus is steadily increasing in India as well as the death toll it causes. It has been called ‘a pandemic within the Covid-19 pandemic’ by medical specialists. Black fungus, or Mucormycosis, is a complication caused by a fungal infection. In India Mucormycosis has been detected in Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, and Bihar, Primarily, fungal spores floating in the environment gives people this infection. This spreads through contact. The fungi sticks to a body part and travels inside through the nose, lungs or sinus.
